I know what you mean. Even though my current TV isn't dead yet, I'd like to replace it with a much newer TV. I can't wait for a detailed review of the ZTs when they come out. I wonder if anyone will make the jump from at VT50 to a ZT60. I don't think there are many people with that kind of cash but perhaps someone will need a second TV and be able to compare the two.

I'll predict that you will be able to wait, and I'll also predict that there will be people who have a VT50 and will buy a ZT60. What I can't predict is how competent the first side by side report will be. eek.gif

in light of the recent poor financial performance of Panasonic

it seems their flat panel business is losing money hand over fist and speculation is they will exit the business in 2014

being they they are public company and want to satisfy shareholders

does anyone this might be the last year...and then they go with rebranded LED's?

There are SO many possibilities before it ever gets to that. Sharp is having financial difficulties, Sony is having financial difficulties, Panasonic may be having more serious financial difficulties but there are so many possibilities to begin correcting that. Partnering with another manufacturer (ie. like teaming up with Sony on OLED production) , trimming down their product lines (like Samsung has done this year with plasma's), they could seek out investment from a Chinese company looking make an entry in the Tv business ( I have heard rumors that Sharp is considering this).

Personally I think it is pretty unlikely that they would give up the dominant position they have in plasma sales to join a crowded LCD market, especially with OLED being so difficult in getting to market at this point. Do you want to be one of only 2 competitors (where you are guaranteed to at least sell to folks who simply don't want to buy a Samsung for whatever reason) , or do you want to be one of four companies racing to get to market with OLED first AND hope yours is better than the other guys, or do you want to be one of a handful of companies all selling variations of the same product that seem to be in a race to the bottom ( at least as far as quality is compared, this is my opinion, seeing as how full array, local dimmers are being replaced with edge lit sets that do not provide the same performance, and I have one of the best examples of the best in edge lit technology in my 75ES9000 which apart from the quad core processor apparently has all the tech of the F8000 series), where you don't have any advantage's that some of your competitors have (thinking of Sharps Gen-10 manufacturing facility) ?

The yen's value to the dollar has a lot to do with japanese ce television lines losing money...

So if the red color was so accurate for the VT50(or all colors for that matter) then what's this thing about fixing red with the ZT60 about?

There is nothing to fix. The ZT60 simply allows someone to get closer to DCI red... which no one uses at home nor are there currently any discs or broadcast sources that uses the DCI colorspace.

D-Nice, Would it be helpful for improving the image quality of streaming color photography to the panel, of course assuming the TV was calibrated for DCI.

That would all depend on the camera settings. DCI would be closer to the Adobe colorspace compared to rec709.

D-Nice,

Could the change in the red have something to do with how plasma's lose red at higher APL's????

If it's more efficient, it may track better with blue and green?

Thoughts?????

No as losing red at high APL is not universal on all plasma displays.

The ZT60 prices have been all over the internet as well as on AVS and HDJ for over a week. Check the first post of the Official Panasonic 2013 Lineup and Information Thread.

I did a quick search in this thread for 24p and also looked on the Panasonic site but I have not seen what refresh rates each of the new models have for 24p - 96hk, 48hz, etc. Anyone know?

I see BBY has many new models posted on their website.

Has anyone made their 2013 purchase yet?

Curious about the S, ST and VT since ZT is not available yet.

Could the 2013 ST beat the 2012 GT on any level?

It looks like the VT60 and ZT60 have a good chance at taking the top two spots at the shootout this year.

They are not an authoritative source for Television Info. They seem to pluck information from other sites so some of it happens to be legit, but a lot of it is incorrect. Not much of a review, mostly seems to be info that we already know. Seems to be more of an advertising site masquerading as a review site......

I do not know if they are reliable, but it was the only site I've seen that makes a test so logical that I think even stranger that others do not do their Plasma testings, which is to see the brightness and black in different APL. Ansi checkerboard test has a APL of 50% and almost nothing that we see have that value.

A lot of fluff there for not having access to an actual set to test in a controlled environment.

So the VT60 measures, at most, 0.002 fL (wasn't that also what the VT50 measured? A controlled lighting environment will provide the most revealing info of course). wink.gif
