I would understand if BOTH 65" were much more, but they are not.

The ST60 60" is $1700, and the 65" is $2600 Is approximately 60% more for 5"??

and an S60 60" is $1300 and the S60 65" is $1700 is only 30% more for 5"

The ST should be around $2,220 for the 65"

What is also odd.

The 60" VT is $3000 and 65" is $3,600, $600 more, only 20% more!

So the 65" ST60 is priced really strange (I hope someone from Panasonic made a mistake, and will correct it!)

My only guess is, they charge more for the 65" ST60 because they can...still the biggest, best overall value for the dollar out there.

At 60" they have to keep the price down a bit more because there is a lot more competition at that size with some of the LED stuff....not quite as much at 65".

Keep in mind, the mother-glass for the VT/ZT panels may be larger, allowing them to charge less for the upgrade depending on how they are able to cut the glass. The ST may use an older gen glass which typically run in smaller sizes. It may be that they can only cut 2 65" panels from one ST glass sheet, and 4 from the VT/ZT glass sheets. I highly doubt this is a case where they are just trying to gouge customers. They received significant pressure from retailers to bring the cost down on the 65" ST, but they couldn't budge. Like I said, this is likely a manufacturing cost.

Though I am an employee of Magnolia Home Theater, the views and opinions I express on this forum are those of my own and not my employer.

Had a chance to see the 65" ST60 at HH Gregg recently and was very disappointed in both the PQ and the price (as discussed above). The picture quality was notably subpar compared to a cheaper S60 model nearby; in comparison it was somewhat blurry and dim. Both were using the component inputs, which tells me the ST models may not handle analog sources well. Stores need to use an HDMI connection for Panasonic plasmas on display since the vast majority of owners will be using that connection. BB does not have a ST model on display yet locally, and Sears may not even bother with it also even though they will order it for you. So far the S60 models I have seen all look better than the ST at HHG, which I hope is all about the input connection. Otherwise paying extra $ above the S60 may be a waste for most of us, especially considering that vastly superior OLEDs will be probably be affordable by the time an upgrade is due, in say five years(?).

Note added: After learning a bit more about the S60 I am guessing the dimmer pic on the ST60 was due in part to it's AR filter, which the S60 does not have. But I still don't understand the blurrier image.

"The truth is out there!"
