Please! In this year's Value Electronics Flat Panel Shoot out, the Panasonic TC-P65VT50 came in first, beating out even the Sharp Elite PRO-60X5FD, which is considered by most audiophiles to be the best LED-LCD TV available today Go to Value Electronics.com for details.

Digital Trends is the number 1 source of information for HDTVs, so I guess that settles it... Samsung's edgelit LED TVs are the best.

Give me a break... that couldn't get much further from the truth. rolleyes.gif

Umm... first and foremost they refer to it as a backlit LED panel. It is edge lit.

No Halos which in the form they describe it they mean blooming. It should be obvious to them considering their "expertise" that this is not a local dimming panel nor does the software based zone dimming work in movie mode, which is why there is no blooming...

They praise its bright room performance but knock it for its glare... all LCD look good in a bright room, it is a dark room where they suffer unless it is a full array local dimming panel, which in that case they are excellent in the sweet spot.

They praise its color accuracy, but the panel is not calibrated as the 10pt WB adjustment is set to off. So, accurate compared to what?

It is reviews like these that make it difficult for consumers to make an objective and informed decision.

They didn't even include the VT50 in their comparison. And I wouldn't exactly say the Panny ST50 "flops" with an 8.5 rating, versus a 9 rating for the Samsung LED.

Who ever calibrated the ST50 failed to set the Black Extension to 0, failed to change the gamma setting and he/she still had room to drop contrast down nearly 16 ticks, both of these would result in better blacks than what they saw and w/o crushing. It also looks like they made no changes to the Pro Settings at all- someone should write them and tell them that there are more adjustments to be made there.

Video NR was set to Medium - after having called the processing tools "snake oil". lol Either this guy let BB calibrate the tv or he works for BB. rolleyes.gif
