Does anyone know of a good Plasma or LCD that's at or under $700? I 60% watch movies/TV and 40% game. Not sure which type would suit me better. This TV would be going in my basement. The only problem is the lights are very bright down there and I'm not sure if having a glass screen would cause a lot of glare.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

For a plasma in that price range, I think you should look at the Panasonic U50 series, I think the 50" goes for $700 on sale.

the UT50 would not work for you since it lacks the dark screen filter of the more expensive models (ST50 and GT50)

to quote CNET:

The UT50 series doesn't perform very well in a lit room, with blacks becoming muddy and indistinct.

Would the LG 50PA4500 or 50PA5500 be a good purchase?

I agree, as long as you have controlled lighting, since there is no AR filter on this screen.

I always found the blacks on the LG's disappointing. Too gray.

None of them at the price are going to do well in a well lit room BC they lack an AR (anti-reflective) filter

For $700, the best 2 choices are the Panasonic 50U50/54, or the Samsung PN51E530/535. The black on the LG versions are not as good, and they are more reflective like a mirror.
