Just curious if there are any studies, or reviews, or personal opinions on how many hours of life a modern Panasonic/Samsung/LG may have.

Thanks!

We are going five years on our Panny Plasma, with it not showing any aging whatsoever. If I had to guess on operating hours, I would have to say that we have around 15,000 hours on it, give or take.

The Panasonics are rated at 100,000 hours with 50% brightness reduction. If you watched the TV eight hours every day, that would be over 34 years.

the ratings he speaks of are for the panel itself obviously the TV isn't going to last 34 years...

There are no studies or reviews about any TV's longevity that i know of, but my general experience with modern electronics over the past twenty ears is that there is always a small chance of a failure on anything that contains electronics be it a clock radio, a car, or a TV. Modern Plasmas actually tend to be more reliable than the old Tube TVs were. The more complicated the device, the higher chance that an internal component can fail. Sometimes that failure is within the first few days, other times it's within several months or several years.
