My 58" Samsung PN58C500 Plasma is being replaced under a best buy PSP. They offered me an LG 60PA6500 to replace it. Not sure how I feel about LG, although it got good reviews on both best buy and amazon. But I have had a couple friends and family who recently got LED's, and the brightness on them compared to my Plasma is amazing. I got the Plasma because LED's were out of my price range so I didn't even really look at them at the time, and the Plasma had the better picture then the LCD's we were looking at, and was cheaper even after the PSP, which obviously paid off. But now seeing these bright LED's, I am kind of torn which I would prefer.
A little more detail about my setup. My current Plasma is wall mounted in my townhome living room. It is mounted higher then eye level when seated because it was the only option, so I wonder if viewing angle could be an issue with LCD/LED. We also have the family over for movie nights some times, but I don't think we are spread out so much that viewing angle would cause too much of an issue that way. We currently have a 58" and sit roughly 10 feet give or take from it. The 58 is big and fits the wall nicely, there is room for a 60, probably even a 65 but I doubt I can afford that. If I go LED I may have to drop to a 55 inch to cover the added cost of LED, is it worth it? I know I am asking in the Plasma section, so I am sure most people will say its not and to go with the bigger Plasma, lol. My living room does have a sliding glass door, which kind of faces the rising sun, but the blinds keep most light out and we don't watch much TV that early in the morning. there is also a window opposite the TV but off to the side not directly across from it. I don't think glare will be much of an issue, but the extra light could be.
Edit: I was trying to take some pics of the screen, and I just now noticed that there is a good be of glare from the window that is behind and off to the side of the TV. I honestly didn't see it when I was looking at the TV at first, but it was quite apparent when looking through the camera at it. And now I can see it more on the TV, but it honestly isn't anything I can't ignore.
Anyways I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of an LED and a Plasma displaying the same image so I could compare the 2. Also looking for any opinions anyone might have on which way I should go. Thanks and happy viewing, lol
