So my wife and I are looking to upgrade from our 42 inch LG LED that's a couple of years old and it will likely be the last upgrade for a while. We want to take the 3D plunge. Gimmick or not, we love it and I definitely want to take advantage of it in gaming. We're looking at the products mentioned in the title. I'm leaning towards the LG. The projector caught my eye though. It's relatively close to our budget, and it has solid reviews. Will it look as good as the LG or Panasonic? I know a 5k projector will look a lot better but by how much? I'm pretty ignorant to projectors. It will be in a room about 10 x 12 or so for the time being. Of course, the screen is another expense and I may just be projecting onto a wall or a white sheet for a while to save for a quality screen haha.

The LG is really tempting given it's 60 inch display size and affordable price range.

Well if 3D is a must then the PA6500 series is out. You will need to move up to the PM6700 series for 3D. You are probably looking at a $300 price jump.

Also if gaming is a must then the Panasonic may be the way too go. Plenty of posts on the forums that the Pannys are great for gamers.

Thanks! I believe I originally meant to post that LG model. I was at work and typing in a pinch. Being real productive at work of course smile.gif. Gaming is something I'll be doing. Not as much as I used to but it's a good diversion for shutting my mind off once in a while. I was drawn to the LG mostly due to the price and it being 60 inches. The Optoma is something I'm still on the fence about. I think if it came down to it, I'd be spending a lot more once I factor in a decent quality screen and mount.

Being an owner of a 60PA6500 I will say the picture quality is great especially for a plasma at that price point. I was in no need of 3D or Smart TV features and I'm not a huge gamer so gaming never factored into my decision.

If you are playing fast moving games like a fighter then the Panny may be the way to go. If your gaming trends toward stratagy games where input lag is much less of an issue I would consider the LG. Some will come out ans say that black levels are horrible, but that is on past models. Black levels on the 2012 models are very good as is color reproduction. The quality of this set at the price point is very impresive.

2D picture quality
1) Panasonic
2) LG
3) Optima

3D picture quality
1) Optima
2) Panasonic
3) LG

For 2D, the Panasonic plasma can't be beat. For 3D, you can't beat a DLP projector, and the HD33 is a great unit. The projector will have zero cross talk, and the immersion you get with a huge screen makes it an entirely different experience. You just have to be sure you can darken room.

If you can dedicate the room for HT, get the projector (maybe even take a look at the Acer). "Dedicate" means controlled lighting and darkened (grey, etc.) ceiling and walls.

If not, the best thing going for 3D is/are the LG passive 3D LED sets. Zero crosstalk, no headaches, ample brightness through the glasses, no muss no fuss.

I was a doubter myself once, but you won't hardly notice the "missing" resolution. Pretty good black levels too. The only minus for you might be gaming lag/latency.
