50" is too big for my available space and I want plasma over LCD.
Ideas or suggestions? I had settled on a panny plasma when I researched a while back. But now it appears there are no 1080 sets under 50"
Since the screen will be smaller, is there a noticeable difference between 720 and 1080? There are a few 720s out there in my size. I was going 1080 for blue ray purposes.
As you've discovered, finding a 1080p plasma that is less than 50" is very difficult.
How close to your panel will you be sitting?
You can get away with a 1024x768 42" panel if you don't sit too close. Personal preference would be 8 - 10 feet, but any given individual might still be happy a bit closer, depending upon eyesight and the tv they are accustomed to watching.
Alas, many of the "720p" panels that are available are loss leaders - and have been "Cheapened" in ways beyond resolution.
Recall seeing a "Thanksgiving Weekend" ad for a 43" Samsung plasma - didn't pay much attention to it, but that Extra Inch doesn't hurt. And, in any event, am not impressed with the recent Panasonic 720p products (although especially the 50" size, which had its resolution dropped from 1366x768 to only 1024x768 a couple of years ago: made the 50" a No Go!).
Only other thought is to Carefully Measure: some of the new Thin Bezel 50" panels are not much wider than the older 46" models.
