I really just wanna go get some cheap 46-50" X-mas deal LCD and be done with all this...
Right now all I have is a 32's Sansui K-mart black friday deal from like 2007 shadow detail is awful and its brighter all the way around the edges. That TV I got for my birthday when I was like 17 so I was pretty happy with it, with a 100' Ethernet I took that thing and gamed with it every where, 720 is like heaven coming from standard deff but when I got old enough I knew there was something better.
I have discovered forums are generally were all the smart experienced people are and they have helped me fix my car and buy flashlight, headphones, speakers, ect. and now I'm a gear head, audiophile, flashaholic but anyway when I was old enough I knew there were better TV's out there so I asked on here. I'm in a dark room and wanted low latency for gaming so I decided on a 42" ST30, my friends parents actually got a 50" S30 and the thing looks marvelous, but after buying a surround sound and losing my job I never got around to it and I'm glad I waited because the ST50 is apparently so much better, I was pissed it only comes in a 50" in the US but what ever I'll get a 50".
Actually I wanna get the GT50 being only a little more right now, but after looking at the UT50 at best buy (long story short) I noticed ABL but I thought it was just because it was at best buy and not in a dark room, and after all its not the ST. Then I start reading on here before I pull the trigger and find all this mess about rising blacks and ABL. Why does CNET rate these thing so good for the general public?
ABL seems worse to me than having light blacks? At least the blacks stay that way and don't change every seen, and ABL is getting worse every year? I DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT EFFICIENCY. My TV can take as much electricity as an electric heater, use it to heat my room in the winter and turn the furnace down, and I'll run it of its own dedicated outlet with a power conditioner and wire in a 50 farad cap if it would be the best looking thing ever but nooooo they have to go and put in ABL
Someone jokingly made a comment that they never watched polar bears in snow storms so ABL didn't bother them, but that made me thing what about the crazy beautiful nature doc's like Planet Earth? Thats one reason I wanted a great TV, so on the Arctic stuff I have to deal with every thing being gray? I just don't get it.Am I worrying to much? What can I do?
Should I save up for the Sharp ELITE? or another LCD with full array LED local dimming, or is the VT50 any better? or what about the old ELITE KURO's, is that why they are so sought after? Why does high end stuff have to be so complicated?
