Its been a couple of years since I bought Plasmas.
In 2010 I got a
65 Panasonic S2
58 Samsung C8000

I feel the highly rated C8000 has that CRT look to it if that makes sense. I bump up that cell light and gamma rather high to get it to be anywhere bright.
The lower rated S2 is plenty bright for a plasma and its almost LED bright.

While I would not buy the higher priced LG plasma the low and mid level ones look pretty much split between dim and bright. Its important to get a bright plasma as I had a dim one before and took a bath to unload it on CL.

It doesn't matter if somebody has had an LG for 20 years "and nuttin' broke"
It doesn't matter if your Uncle Louie and 12 of his friends think LG is the bestest Tv in the whole wide world.

The answer to the op's question was my answering post.

While many can go by what they "think", I'll take the data anytime.

I read the reviews, look at the data, look at the TV, and then decide if it's the right set for me.
Seems simple enough, don't you agree?

All due respects...maybe you'll take the "data"...because you can't believe your eyes are seeing anything good! rolleyes.gif

Example...decades ago I wanted and researched Audio speakers till my eyes blead and head pounded...then... frustrated and burned-out I put down all the review papers and ignored what 'meters/data' said.
I turned my back to a line-up of speakers, had a friend hit the switchblade buttons and I picked out what sounded the BEST to me.
Turns out I saved a lot of $$$ and 23 years later I couldn't have done it a BETTER way. Ended up with JBL LT100T3 > and still amazing to 'me' cool.gif

Moral of this story...sometimes 'you' have to trust and believe what you see, and hear. wink.gif

I have to say I did not want Plasma when I needed a new TV. (You can see some of my other posts about this I have relayed this story a couple of times.) I was convinced by several salesmen at different stores telling me pretty much the same thing, to buy a Panasonic Plasma which I did. I love the set. (tcp 60UT50) We later bought a new set for the Bedroom and we went with an LCD as we only wanted a 40"and you cannot get a 1080p set in that size. I couldn't stand the picture. I ended up going to the 43" Samsung from Sams and it smoked the LCD we had purchased and It holds it's own with the Panasonic if not beating it outright. I will never go back to an LCD If I have the choice.

Just another point to remember (no matter which brand is chosen), IF you are on a budget, keep in mind that your 3D TV (if you go that route) will cost you a few more bucks later. My set uses active glasses and I purchased the same brand as the TV, so $150.00 there for 2 pair, then i got the same brand 3D BD Player which was on sale for $100. (reg $169). All prices before tax.

So AFTER the set was purchased, I spent 20%+ of what I spent on the set itself.

Just something to keep in mind....
