Hi --

I just picked up a new Samsung PN51E7000 yesterday. This is my first plasma and actually my first new TV in quite a while. I have been losing my mind reading about IR and burn in and the various rituals people go through. There is contradictory information almost everywhere I look.

Is there some reputable location for information as to what I should and should not do? For what it's worth, I don't use the TV for gaming and our viewing habits here are fairly modest. We watch primarily movies and probably not much more than several hours or so a week. It could take me 1/2 a year or more to get to the 100 hours for break in based on our normal viewing patterns! Although now that I have this nice new set, I suppose that I may be watching more :-).

Good morning:

A couple of things to do during the first 100 to 200 hours:
Turn the contrast and brightness down to about 50 percent
Try to watch 4:3 material in full screen mode to avoid IR

Thanks. I'm running the slide DVD now and plan to do that for a while when I am not watching, but will turn it off at night or when there isn't someone around to at least make sure that nothing gets stuck. I guess I'll zoom to get full screen coverage when watching any letter boxed movies for a while also. There seems to be some difference of opinion about whether any of this is really necessary, but I guess it can't hurt and since we don't use the TV for hours every day, I suppose it will help to get the TV broken in more quickly so I can calibrate it (or get it calibrated).
