You and chunon both had VTs didnt you? He has an ST. That may be different. Its likely they have more ST panels since more were made.

That's a good point. I would still want some assurance that if the problem persisted that I as the consumer would have some recourse.

Thanks for the advice, I will reply via email to Panasonic first and then call prior to panel replacement.

I must be getting one of the last VT50 panel's. Maybe they have more 55 inch ones than 65 inch ones.

I'm one of the ones who had a panel replacement done on my 65VT50. No, it didn't fix the issue long term. I was also told that they don't replace panels anymore, but magically they got one somehow. For the first few weeks the yellow blobs were gone, but came back about two weeks before my warranty ran out. That was about 6 weeks after the replacement. I'm still waiting to hear back from my service tech if they are indeed replacing my VT50. They had me send in a copy of my receipt a week ago, because Panasonic was considering replacing the set this time. No word since.

Has anyone had to deal with geek squad when it came to fixing globs issue on their panels? I appears everyone has gone under the manufacture warranty and went to Panasonic for a fix.

I have a 2 year warranty with Best Buy, I fell out of my manufactures warranty this past July. Best Buy sent out geek squad to come and take a look at my set. The tech said it was a panel and problem and it needed to be replaced. He said if panel is no longer available the TV would be exchanged. Has anyone here had to go through the geek squad process to get their panel fixed?

I have not, but did pick up the two year warranty for my VT60 just in case. It sounds like they will replace the set relatively easy because of whatever issue....burn in, 3 or more dead pixels, etc. Shouldn't be a problem here.

My first 50 series was a GT50. It developed the yellow blobs. I opened a case, they came out examined it, I tried to sell the issue was non-repairable and they gave me a credit to swap it out at Bestbuy. The issue with the Geek Squad is that they will only give you what you paid for the swap. For example, I got my GT50 on sale just after Christmas, I paid like $1299. Getting a comparable TV for that in June with the new model lines was near impossible. They had two VT50s left in their sharable inventory and I had to talk them into giving me the extra $100 to get into it. If you paid near full price for your TV then Geek Squad might be a good route. If not and your Panasonic warranty is still valid that might be a better direction to go in.

Anyone know a method to contact Panasonic's upper tier support that could actually provide a legit response to my concerns about the panel replacement and the issue potentially popping up again? If I call the 1-800 number it will be useless. I called the local repair shop and they couldn't really answer my questions aside from re-iterating their 90 day after repair policy. I am hoping to get something in writing from Panasonic direct versus the local repair shop.

I know calling the 800 seems futile, but they document the contents of the calls. If you protest persistently enough you might be able to get some escalation. It's not going to be easy and most likely frustrating, but the alternative is a TV with yellow blobs.

Thats a great deal though. I would happily pay $300 for that sort of upgrade. Hell, Id be willing to pay $300 to upgrade from my 60ST50 to a 60ST60.

I was able to get that price at a BB in New Hampshire, tax free. If they aren't able to replace panel and they decide to credit me the amount back, I am going back to the BB in NH.

I haven't read through this thread so forgive my ignorance, but are these blobs generally obvious or more visible with certain content? What's a good way to check for them?

I have an April 2012 build VT50, so it's presumably from a very early run of the sets, I do get some mild buzzing but would like to identify any issues sooner rather than later so I can replace with another plasma. I'm still covered by Geek Squad for the next three years or so.

The buzzing is normal, but if you get the D nice break in slides, you should be able to see the gobs against the grey solid slide.

Watch a hockey game. If it looks good you are probably okay.

Sent in my photos, but Panasonic just now called me (72 hours later) to inform me they needed my Serial # and home address. So now I will wait another 48 hours to hear back on what the tech's think the next step is...

If you mean the screen wipe maybe, but the TV is blasting white very vividly so it may wash it out. AT&T commercials, golfing when there is some haze, Taken 2 showed it a lot. When it is bad you can even see it against light blue backgrounds because the yellow mixes and it looks green.
