Hi all,

I have taken all your advise on cooling fans and added some to the back.

First I added a pair of USB 5V fans I cut out of a laptop pad cooler to the top centre of the panel outside back. I can feel warm air coming out now at this point.

I then added a 12V computer fan to the right hand side blob area. This is also sucking out heat you can really feel. This fan is running of a 12 V adapter that is plugged into the wall and is a temporary experiment.

I too have now found this side now feels a lot cooler on both the front and the back.

The blob areas look very good but then I had already tweaked my VSUS inside.

The strange thing is I am now getting a slightly higher peak white by 2ftl. Don't know why but it's welcome.

I am now thinking of how I can set up a long term internal fan cooling upgrade. I think it is the best thing I can do to protect my high voltage VT50 from here.

Just the packing list from the box. Furthermore they flat out refused to provide me any written notification that the set was replaced. They advised me to have Best Buy call them and reference the case number in order to have them adjust my warranty. I may be cynical, but I can't see that happening.

If they refused that would be enough to worry me.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

Just got a call from the service company. Panasonic wants them to take the TV to their shop and do more testing and diagnostics...ugh.

Didn't mention a loaner TV, so we'll see if they come through on that "Concierge Service" they touted when I bought the TV...

Just had geek squad out, guy was very nice but I'm a bit worried. He took a look at it, saw the problem. Said that it "looked like" they'd be able to order a new panel for my VT50, but they wouldn't know for sure until the order was placed. He said when and if the new panel arrives, he can tweak the sustain voltage but he would prefer not to touch it. He said if it turns out that the panel is unavailable, then they'll just give me a replacement.

Guess I'll know sooner or later what they're going to do. Obviously I'd prefer a replacement TV...

I am in the same situation with geek squad, I am scheduled for this Thursday. They are suppose to be swapping with a replacement panel.

Good news, I was informed by Geek Squad that they no longer carry part of the ST50, and they will credit me to pick out another set. So it looks like I will go with the ST60.

Well, I am now a VT60 series owner. My replacement TV came in today. I'm running D-Nice's slides, only 97 more hours left until I can watch TV...

Grrr. I'm starting to get the run around from Panasonic. I've sent in pictures, serial numbers, and everything else. Now they mysteriously can't find the receipt that I sent in. Nice. I'll send it in again and hope for the best but this is starting to look pretty dodgy.

I had similar stuff happen to me. Just keep at it and if you go 3 days without hearing anything, give them a call. I had a few instances where I called and they were like "we have a note here from a technician that we need 'blah blah' information". They won't seek it out from you, you gotta persist.

As for an update on my case, the local tech company came and took the VT50 away and are running more tests and diagnostics on it per Panasonic's request...so we'll see what they say.

Hey Everyone,

Been a while since I posted in here (since I first did the VSUS trim pot tweak) but thought I'd throw out an update. My 65VT50 was out of warranty by about a month when I started down the path with Panasonic in June.. They told me at that time to see if it got worse before sending out a tech, which is why I was trying the DIY approach to the issue. While the fix made it much better, hockey season started in October and the blobs were noticable and taking away from my enjoyment of the sport.

I contacted Panasonic and started on the case again -- two trips out from the tech company for pictures and a tweak (VSUS low to high in service menu) and they diagnosed the issue as needing a replacement panel. Estimate with labor was $2,200 from tech company, Panasonic had a rep call from accomodations department to talk about options. She offered my a 65VT60 at a heavily discounted price (less than $1000) so I jumped on it.

They picked up my 65VT50 about a week and a half ago, I took delivery of my 65VT60 last Tuesday and couldn't be happier!

Panasonic stepped up the plate on this one, no doubt. I have a receipt for the 65VT60 and can get a SquareTrade extended warranty.

Keep calling them every 2-3 days to move the process along, you'll get there eventually!

Apparently Panasonic released a firmware update for the VT50 yesterday (1.19) -- I know it's been mentioned that the yellow blobs might be a firmware issue -- anyone that still has a VT50 notice any change in the blobs? I can't imagine Panasonic doing all these panel replacements and exchanges if they knew it was a firmware issue, but fingers crossed!

Kinda of a bummer. Tech company said it has ordered the panel and that it should arrive in 5-7 days...

I know some people said the same thing happened, but then the panel was out of stock, so we'll see if that happens now.

In any case, I just want it fixed. The VT50 was a great TV before this problem occurred. If I can get it back to normal, I'd be totally satisfied.

So I called in today for an update and found this out: New unit has been ordered to be shipped to customer. That's it. No information as to what the new unit is or anything else. It might be a VT50 or VT60 or a fish tank. But it is white glove delivery. smile.gif So we'll see what they actually ship and I'll post an update when I find out. FYI, this is working directly with Panasonic, they have never sent a tech out to look at the TV. My 65VT50 was purchased at the end of Nov 2012. Fingers crossed for a new VT60.

Are you working with Panasonic, Best Buy, Square Trade or what? I'm curious as you only say "Tech company" and if you get your replacement before me I'd like to know how it goes if you're working with Panasonic. Ah, based on your previous post it sounds like you're working with Panasonic. Please post what model they replace your VT50 with. I can't wait to find out.

How did you get out of having a tech come to your house to check it out? I offered to send in pictures. My VT50s blobs are off white yellow with a blue halo around it. The IR sticks in those spots quickly, kinda like it's a hot spot on the upper left and all along the right side. It becomes more visible as it warms up. It's more visible on certain grey scale slides but I first noticed it while watching TV and investigated further. It has progressively gotten worse and the firmware update actually made it MORE noticeable and showed up in a couple smaller spots. SOOO frustrated. I'm hoping I don't get jerked around.

Absolutely no idea. eek.gif The pictures I sent in were really clear and I ringed the yellow blobs with arrows to make is absolutely clear what the issue was. Perhaps by this point they are familiar enough with the problem they aren't requiring a tech check. It's too bad they are having this problem with some of the VT50's. It's really a fantastic set and it replaced my Pioneer Kuro. Hopefully the VT60's won't suffer from this problem in a year. Now it's time to call Square Trade and figure out how they cover the extended warranty.

I have an extended warranty through SquareTrade but am still in the manufacturer warranty window until December 6th. SquareTrade only covers up to the value you paid for the TV so I chose not to wait any longer and use the manufacturer warranty.

Square Trade update: so while Panny is taking care of this replacement for me I have a ST warranty on the set also. I just spoke to them and they told me that after the TV is replaced to provide them with a receipt (or something) for the replacement TV. After the warranty for the new TV runs out the ST warranty will cover it. You'll need to send in a copy of the replacement receipt or paperwork and they'll email out a link to input the new serial number. Sounds very straightforward to me, which is refreshingly nice. The only kicker will be the replacement TV documentation.

The initial request was straight through Panasonic since it was still under the 1-year Manufacturers warranty. Now I've been dealing with a local A/V Tech service company (Video Audio Specialists, NV) to handle the actual repairs. I'm not actually sure what they meant by "new panel". I assumed it was a part for the VT50, in which case I'll be worried that the issue will crop up again, but I gotta play the waiting game.

Boy...I may give Panasonic a shot if they are doing some replacements without even sending a tech. I'll take pics of the blobs while in service menu where they really shop up. It's worth a shot!

I just ordered my replacement TV. They're coming later this week to pick up my 55VT50 and will bring out a brand new 60ZT60. I was just about set on a 60VT60, but decided I didn't want any regrets at all when Panasonic plasmas were no longer available. Hope you guys get your replacements soon.
