Any way to download google apps to the tv they have some pretty good screen erasing programs..
Such as Plasma Saver but the only way I can see to run it once its on your phone is to attach a usb to Hdmi
cable which seem kind of lame.

Many have had success using a pixel jogger or flipper. I use the Disney WoW Disc pixel flipper and this has helped any IR my ST50 has experienced. Good Luck.

Hey guys, sorry to jump in here,

But I have a similar problem except with the ST50 model.

I ran break in slides for 100 hours and after that have used the tv for an additional 300+ hours with no issues.

Now, I am having image retention issues all over the place.

Examples:
1) Turned on TV, turned on Oppo player (says "oppo" while waiting for disc, up about 10 seconds), put Finding Nemo in, and for 30 minutes, I saw "oppo" retained on the screen. What I can't believe is the word "oppo" was only up for about 10 seconds and lasted 30 minutes. I thought for an image to be retained it had to be on the screen for a significant amount of time.

2) The other day, I checked on the guide my PVR/DVR for just a few seconds and some of the details where retained for about 10 minutes

3) Playstation 3, the cause of most IR as most people have posted all over the internet. A quick example. Playing tiger woods, I see "tiger woods pga tour 13" the whole game, just from the title screen. It is quite bad. I also have to make sure the golfer I choose does not wear white clothing or shoes. It's quite frustrating.

It seems like image retention problems are getting worse as the tv ages. I thought it was suppose to get better as the tv ages.

I have been running slides to help with the IR. I try to mix it up with no transitions, wipes left, wipes right, wipe up, wipe down, random. I guess it helps a bit, but I can still see a few things retained that won`t go away.

Any help or ideas would be great.

Thanks

I have an ST50 as well. It sounds like you are seeing IR during normal TV viewing which is very frustrating. Also it seems like some of your issues happen immediately after the panel is powered on, i.e. not warmed up. I notice more IR in the fall and winter as my panel is in the basement and it is significantly cooler down there. Once my panel is warmed up any IR vanishes rather quickly, at least so far. To be honest, I really only notice my IR when I am checking for it with color slides. That said, two things really help with my IR.
#1 - Professional calibration
#2 - Regular usage of a pixel flipper

Mine developed IR/burn in. I purchased from Best Buys and with extended warranty for this reason only. 11 1/2 months after purchasing News Channel 4 logo burned into lower right corner, the Viera Cast would also burn in for periods of time after turning it on (I have it set to off but it still pops up) and the Oppo logo would also burn for a period of time after shutting off. Well I contacted Best Buys and in just a few short days I had a repair man at my door with a replacement panel and he replaced it on the spot. I had also been watching the TV in THX mode, coming from a LCD I just felt I need the the extra brightness. I no longer do this, I purchased and use the WOW disc but not as frequently as I should. And I watch constantly for IR, but have yet to see any.

Main System:
Panasonic - VIERA / TCP55VT50
Emotiva XPA-5 X-Ref 12 sub
Denon X4000
Oppo BDP 93
B & W N804 Mains, 603 Rear surrounds, LCR 600 Center, ASW 600 sub, B & W CDS6 S3 rear heights

Thanks guys for the responses.

Cuda 1169: I think your right about the issues occurring immediately powering up the tv. I think that's a major culprit. For me when I play video games, I want to play right away, don't want to warm the tv up by watching tv, before playing. Guess I will have to adjust. And the room with the tv is generally the coolest room in the house, which is probably a factor as well. I don't really notice it when watching a movie, thankfully. But I can notice it when watching sports, particularly hockey (white ice surface) and golf. Watching hockey was when I first noticed it, because I thought the camera filming the game had a smudge on it, until I realized it was not just that game but all games. And as you say when running slides I notice it as well. I think you got a great grasp on my issues. Thanks

sgtjim57: I just purchased the WOW disc and will probably utilize that. Glad that it helps.

Crops85, I definitely recommend the WoW pixel flipper. I've been using mine more as football season is now in full swing. I could easily see the NBC peacock logo, when I check via slides, after last nights game. I ran the pixel flipper for 15 minutes and it was gone. Same thing happened with the Fox Sports Logo but after watching a full screen movie, it was gone.

Hey, the pixel flipper is quite cool. I only played it briefly to see what it is all about and I think it should help a lot. I am glad that it works for you.

On another note, I have previously calibrated my tv using DVE essentials and Spears and Munsil. At times those discs are confusing. So I figured I would check out the test patterns on the disc and I found them incredibly useful and pretty straight forward. However, I had to put a setting at a level that SCARE ME. For the advanced contrast pattern, where you are suppose to turn up the contrast until elements brighter than ideal white disappear from the background, I had to put the contrast at 100 (THAT SCARY PART), and even still some of the ideal white parts did not disappear. It as if I should have set the contrast around 106. I was told by a few people not to have the contrast set too high, so when I am maxed out it is frightening.

Isn't a higher contrast going to lead to more IR? Are these settings flawed?

I've had this set for 18 months now and the IR just gets worse and worse.
It cannot be used for video games whatsoever. I stopped using it for any games five months ago, and I can still see the etched-in coin, Mario and "X 000" images, even though I run bright-colored loop content almost all the time when not watching movies.
And it doesn't result only from persistent images--the Oppo logo that flashes momentarily on the screen at boot up is still visible two minutes later if a solid color screen presents itself, like a snowy shot in Game of Thrones, or a pale blue sky.
My theory is that Panasonic rolled this out as its final plasma, so that no one would ever miss the technology once it was gone.

Are you going to post in every single Panasonic thread ? IR is a panel to panel thing documented over and over here.

I suspect the differences are more user-to-user, depending on observational skills, denial level, Stockholm Syndrome, etc...

Not denying ir exists I've seen it myself but it does go away on most sets. What you describe is not the norm and most likely a panel voltage issue.

I also see it in bars all the time--they'll have a screen showing commercials or whatever, "enhanced" with a clutter of ghost logos of "ESPN" and its derivatives, and usually with a big ghost logo of the TV brand from when they leave it on with no content running.
It's just an inevitable characteristic of the tech.

Yikes! That's not something I could be in denial about. I had a vt50 did have some persistent ir from the fox sports logo but it went away after baseball season.

You can fix it

hey, I'm probably way late on this, but I hope not.

I have a 55" VT50 and for the first 3 months i had it, used it to play Call of Duty and that's IT. LITERALLY, no TV, no movies, nothing but the game. I've always had plasmas and the pixel orbiter always protected me. I'm a heavy, heavy gamer and calculated that I put about 300 hours of Call of Duty on my new TV. I found info online indicating that I needed to run digital static for about 3X the amount of time the burned in image was on screen, 900 hours or so.

So....I went to http://beginwithsoftware.com/videogu.../#.VDYed2Py1Zd (it's free, not trying to sell anything) and made a DVD of the static pattern. I would start it up in the morning, set it to repeat and leave for work with it running all day. It took a looooong time, but the burned in image DID disappear eventually. I ran it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for probably a month.

What I did not know is that THX Mode TURNS THE ORBITER OFF!!! So ever since, I've been gaming in Custom Mode with the right calibrations. BUT, caution, after about 100 hours of Destiny, for some reason, with the Orbiter ON, I have image retention. I just made the DVD and started it up minutes ago. I will let it run while I sleep and hopefull get rid of the image much quicker this time.

hope i got you in time, lemme know

65" Samsung F8500 - Marantz SR6009 - Oppo Blu-Ray Player
