I recently purchased the Panasonic P60UT50 and I am wanting to hook it up to the internet. I have my Uverse and DVD going to my A/V receiver and then out to the TV. I am wanting to connect the TV to the internet via the ethernet port on the back of the TV. Can I use an ethernet cable to connect from the back of the cable box directly to the TV which would bypass the A/V receiver? How does the sound from the internet get back to the A/V receiver? Do I need to move the input from the A/V receiver from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 which has the ARC?

Thanks,

Unless your Cable Box acts as a switch then no you would not be able to do that, you would need to either connect to your router\switch or have a wiresless dongle (Im not sure if the UT50 has built in wireless...This question is probably best asked in the UT50 owners thread to be honest

No built in wireless in the UT50. Has an Ethernet port your you can by the wireless dongle.

So you'll need the wifi dongle, or to run an ethernet cable from the router to the back of the TV. Then run an optical cable from the optical out to the receiver if you want the sound from the streaming apps to come through your surround system rather than the TV speakers. You only get 2.0 sound that way though, no way to get 5.1 from the TV apps.

So IMO they're pretty useless. Much easier to just use Apps on a Bluray player or game console or Roku/other brand set top box that you can just hook up to the receiver via HDMI and get surround and the video to the TV through receiver etc.
