I would like to see the F8500 come in a 75 inch model, WHY stop at 64 inch.
64" is a little small for a main H.T. monitor.

Every day above ground is a good day.

I imagine cost and power usage are the limiting factors. They do make those 110" plasmas if you have $$$$$$.

Because of cost and the market is dwindling for 70"+ supposedly.

I don't know about "dwindling" so much as "not really growing".

There is no difference in HDMI cables. If you can see the picture without visible dropouts or sparklies, the cable is working at 100%. No other cable will display a better version of that picture. You're simply wrong if you think there is a better digital cable than one that is already working.

Apparently, the frame is back ordered with no estimated delivery time. I just received a phone call from Samsung Customer Support offering me 2 options. 1. A refund of $2K (more than I actually paid!), or 2. If I pay an additional $700, they'll send me a brand new 64F8500 with a 1 year warranty. Choice was simple. I should have the F8500 in house within 10 business days. She told me I got the last one they had in inventory until the next batch arrives in June. I'll send some impressions when I get it hooked up.

That's pretty intense. I hope you get it asap and tell us all the details.

What I was getting at was, LED comes in 75" why not plasma ? I almost pulled the trigger on ES8000-75" for 10k and I'm glad I didn't.. I have 2- 55" and 1 is in the bedroom. Now it's time for a 75", maybe F8500 LED.

^Manufacturing cost-prohibitive reasons perhaps, which would price them higher than their LCD/LED counterparts?

Sadly that may be correct. If so, when will that price ever come down? How do prices ever get driven down if no one starts making the larger sizes initially to bring us to that point?

Well, Plasma is largely viewed as nearing its exit phase (which I hope is not true, given the roadblocks encountered in OLED production so far), so that might hold a clue (i.e. a question of investment and the concern of diminishing/lack of returns). Plasma itself only garners 15% of the market, and flat panel sizes above 60" (among all display techs) account for a market share in only the single digits.

While I am sure there is demand for a 55" it Samsung istn hurting when it comes to sales...I do understand the pain when 55" may be the biggest you want or may fit in your current set up though, but in cases like this, you can only go smaller or to a different manufacturer (if you cant\dont want to go to the 60" range)......

I actually had a 55'' GT50 (before it broke), but I really do want to step up to a 60". My issue isn't as much about space as it is price. There is no way I can pay $3000 for a TV, and also no way I am stepping down to a 51'', thus I will more than likely be purchasing a 60'' ST60 ($1699 msrp).

If the F8500 was available in a 55'' with a msrp of around $2500, I could concievably pick one up for around $2000 on sale. That would be the top of my price range. So even if the PQ is much better than the ST60, Samsung will still not get my business. They need to take care of a few other issues before they get me back anyways (buzz, fluctuating brightness)

...so it looks like both sides might miss out because of this.

Maybe I'm missing something but you should easily be able to pick up a 60E7000 for about $1500. The hard part will be finding one I think. Also the 60E8000 can be had for less than $2K and is much easier to find. The 2012 Sammy E series plasmas may not match the F8500/5500, but that's not to say they still aren't fantastic looking panels. My E8000 is drop dead gorgeous!

Edit...
Just checked Amazon and the PN60E6500 (nearly identical to the 7000) can be had right now for $1,499. The 60E8000 is at $1,800.

I know I am on a Samsung thread here and I'm not trying to start a debate, but I owned a 51'' E8000 and returned it. I also owned a D7000 plasma. IMO none of these models mentioned are an upgrade over the ST50/ST60 in PQ (and that is not even mentioning the issues I have had with them).

Even if i could afford it, the only way I would go back to Samsung is if the PQ of the F8500 is a substantial upgrade AND they fixed the buzz and Fbr issues. Now If you are telling me the new 6500/7000 series plasma models (or equivelent replacements) are supposed to be improved as well this year then thats another option, but I haven't heard a thing about them.

By people, are you talking about customers (plasma buyers), or the manufacturers (as way to fill in the potentially longer-than-expected wait for OLED)?
Didn't LG exit the plasma business this year, while Samsung/Panasonic appear to be putting more resources into the higher-end plasmas? Kind of odd, right? Maybe LG decided they couldn't compete there and the low priced plasma business wasn't so hot.

There are no 6500\7000 replacements...There are 3 (?) for Samsung

F8500
F5500
F4500

The F8500 was given the most attention at CES so thats why people are waiting for that one in particular, Im guessing the F500 will be closer to the E7000\E8000 of last year with a few improvements here and there......The F8500 is where we are going to see the most improvement from those that have seen the set.....

Not sure on the Fbr issues, but form what I ahve read they are mostly no exsitent in the 2012 models and mostly fixed in the 2011 models with a software patch........Buzzing well hopefully you dont get a Panasonic buzzer because they are out there as well.......

Whichever TV you shose you are going to need to take the bad with the good, but in your price range I would either go 60" F5500 or 60 ST60.......

I'm hardly opposed to the proposition, just hope it's given plasma tech the injection it needs to persevere a few more years. wink.gif

Fbr was far from fixed in the 2012 models. I returned a E8000 because hockey was unwatchable. Panel brightness would fluctuate like crazy.

Yeah, looks like a ST60 for me.

I stopped noticing FBR on the D8000 with the latest firmware. It was extremely noticable before.

True, but the first OLED's will be out very shortly. Obviously in a different price range, but they will be out nonetheless. After that, prices will probably fall faster than everyone thinks. I don't want plasma to go anywhere either, but I think we will see very few options just 2 years from now.

Though I am an employee of Magnolia Home Theater, the views and opinions I express on this forum are those of my own and not my employer.

True but its going to take years (more then 2 I believe) for OLEDs to come down in price enough for the average consumer to be able to afford. Throw into the mix if the F8500 does beat out LEDs in PQ and if the plasma vs LED brightness is truly equaled you may see LEDs take the hit lol... This may be the beginning of a whole new plasma war between Panny and Sammy, who can make the brightest plasma while still improving blacks and contrast!! cool.gif

Amazon claims to have 3 of the 64" sets in stock as of Thursday morning (showing $4399 for the SRP). Even with the discount, that's a brave proposition for an uncharted set. I'm a bit surprised that its SRP (according to both Amazon and ABT) is $300 more than Panasonic's flagship model.
