My tv is low profile wall mounted though, so I cant give you the exact example of your situation. But Ill post measurements of all the wiring and stuff to help give you an idea of what youre dealing with.

Couple more questions about backlighting...

Is that light 6500K?

Also I have heard that the wall the TV is mounted on should be either white or gray. My wall is beige. How important is that aspect? Should I go grab some gray paint and tell the wife we will have a new "accent wall" color? HA

For someone with zero electrical skills can the length be EASILY adjusted?
That is like 16 feet of lights, overkill IMHO that is why you need the dimmer.

And yes of course paint the wall. I did, and just tell your wife you have to. LOL

I truly doubt the light is 6500k. Its probably bluer than it should be if I had to guess.

Anyone else having trouble with youtube playback lately? First day I tried it everything was fine (fine for Youtube, at least), now two days in a row it pretty much pauses to buffer every few seconds. Works fine on the desktop and laptop.

Ain't noway I'm painting the damn wall. Y'all crazy as hell lol. I've done a lot of tv voodoo weird stuf since joining the forum. I even got a light and a dimmer. But paint, that's too far. We are all nuts in this thread.

I am convinced all the new panny's are all prone to some kind of IR. You have to choose if you are willing to deal with it to get the outstanding PQ. I have an ST50 and I have stubborn IR at times, and still love my set because of the PQ. My current problem is a greenish tint issue that has appeared a little over a month and half ago and that vertical line that has plagued most of the st50's. I plan to call BB later on in the fall to have them come check it out and hopefully upgrade to the ST60. I won't be surprised if the same problems appear in the ST60, its basically a crap shoot when it comes to these sets. I wish Panasonic tighten up on the quality control.

I've yet to see any IR on my S60... I have used the heck out of it and it has over 500 hours last I looked, so your mileage will vary with IR, depending on how you use it and you know what to avoid.

Although I've only had my ST60 for a couple of weeks now, I have not experienced any burn-in or IR. I've watched a decent amount of anamorphic wide screen movies, as well as some TV programming with logos. I have been careful (have only watched that kind of programming for a couple of hours at a time), but have never had to use pixel flipper (or any other method) to remove IR. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Maybe I've just been lucky (and I don't think people are lying about their IR issues or anything), but I just wanted you to know that not EVERY ST60 set is as susceptible to IR as people are making them seem.

Home Theater is not a bad choice imo. But you can try D-Nice's settings in post #1 of the "2013 settings thread", those are in Custom Picture Mode, or you can take a look at the CNET review of the ST60 on their website, the reviewer also posted settings, those are in Cinema Picture Mode, so you can plug in all the values for both (D-Nice and CNET) in both modes and toggle between them and see if you like one or both of those, depending on the content you're viewing.. some suggestions for you.

Or.... you can stick with Super ViVid Mode tongue.gif

Yeah I haven't seen that either and haven't seen it reported on a mass scale at all, not even close. I've actually seen comments to the opposite, saying how good this set was with IR compared to previous displays, and some were even using it as a PC monitor so you can image the potential IR there..

I think it's a non issue on these 2013 Panasonic Plasma, mint displays cool.gif

Just noticed suddenly every single Best Buy in my area is listed as "Available now" on the 60ST60's. Must have been a huge delivery or something. Perhaps if Video Only has them now too they'll let me bring my PS3 down there and finally test this lag for myself on their display model. Looking to make my final TV decision really really soon.

swapped out my s60 with the st60. I have to say under light the picture is way better on the st60. Glare is not as bad either (main reason I switched). I'm happy for the switch, I watched monsters inc in 3d and it looked very good! I'm running the slides for the most part unless I am watching full screen content while I am sitting in front of it. I am glad I made the switch!

I swapped an S60 for the ST60 because of the massive amount of posterization in the S60. Happy to say this TV isn't near as bad as the S60. This is about the same as my 5 year old PX80.

I guess my bad habit of always changing radio stations all the time even in the middle of a good song is paying off because i do the same thing with my tv channels. I usually change channels during every commercial and often forget what i was watching before ha. I guess that has been helping with any IR issues my tv could have. Now when i first got my tv i did notice a little bit of IR from fox sports but the only way i noticed was because the channel i changed it to had a commercial playing with a white background but the IR only lasted a few seconds and it went alway. To tell you the truth I dont even worry about IR anymore and dont even look for it. I think a lot of people are so paranoid about it that they are always looking for it instead of enjoying their TVs, i know because I was one of those. At one point i was putting more hours reading this thread than actually watching and enjoying my TV. Now this is just my honest opinion, hope no one takes it to heart.

Here's my initial p60st60 impressions. Will evaluate more extensively after D-Nice's slides are complete.

  • Picture quality is absolutely amazing
  • 3d looks incredible with motion smoothing set to med or high
  • I'm a casual gamer and didn't notice any PS3 or 360 input lag with game mode on
  • Blacks are insane - fully black scenes make the set look like it's turned off
  • Can only hear very quiet buzzing during all-white scenes (i.e. D-Nice's slide)
  • The red LED being on when the TV is on is backwards and annoying - electrical tape took care of that
  • So glad I paid more for the 60" - would have had serious buyer's remorse if I had gotten a smaller panel
  • No problems with Abt - shipped quickly and the delivery people were great (see my price in the st60 deals thread)
  • Monoprice mount (8588) worked perfectly
  • Watching for an hour or two during the day & running D-Nice's slides overnight

There are very few reports of IR on the new 60 series models compared to IR reports on last year's 50 series so don't be so quick to paint the whole 2013 lineup with such a broad brush. Last year did see a spike in IR reports, but so far that just doesn't seem to be the case this year on the 60 series models.

And last year's 50 series weren't all plagued by IR - lots of us do not have persistent IR despite watching content with logos and tickers etc. My GT50 is very resistant to IR (hours and hours of news and auto racing etc) and what little IR i do get goes away quickly after switching channels. I'm not disputing that a lot of 50 series owners are having IR problems, but it definitely is not happening on "all" examples. And it doesn't seem to be carrying over on the new 60 series models anywhere near as widespread as last year.

It actually looks like Panasonic did improve quality control on this year's models. Why would you assume the same problems that plagued your ST50 will also plague a replacement ST60? Have you seen any reports of a 60 series having a green tint issue?

Pauls TV. Paid $1499 (average price) but I had to buy there because they are the only ones who offer a full accidental coverage warranty. After my GT50 accident I am not taking a chance with this one!
