In the early days of Plasma - we had no choice but to buy from people like you. Local outlets like Circuit City, Good Guys (remember them??) didn't carry flat screens. I will pay a small premium to buy local rather than mail order.
mike (Who does order a lot from Amazon and stuff like cables, when needed, from MonoPrice)

If you don't have a TV or your current one is dying that it makes sense to buy one now. I should have said, now is not a good time to buy the ST60 because of the demand, you can probably get a better deal on a VT60 than a ST60, I think some sellers are actually raising the price of the ST60's as oppose to lowering them.

They absolutely are. The 60ST60 was $1500 when it first came out at Amazon. Now its $1900.

Actually - it's still $1499. $1899 is when they want to push their 3rd party seller's inventory.
AMZ will say 1-2 months wait (@1499) but it was more 1-2 week for me earlier this month.

That's what I paid. I did see the AMZ price @1499 w. 1-2 month wait. When I found it locally for the same
price - jumped at it. While the nearby BB had one running on the floor - none of their stores within
75 miles had one available. They couldn't sell me the floor demo, even if I wanted it, because it is
considered a "current item". The sticker price at BB was the same 1499.

Def seeing ir or burn in from the scrolling ticker from watching rangers games every day. Commercials have no ticker, and I watch a lot if other tv too, so this seems weird. What do I do? Will it go away? If not that means no one can watch a baseball game on this set??

I have had my 50st60 for since march and watch a lot of sports such as every Hawks game never changing the channel ever including the triple over time game, so it was on the same channel for well over 2 hours and not one hint of IR. I verify once a day with DNice slides to insure I still have no IR. I guess I am a lucky st60 owner. Also am using cadet's 300+ hour settings. I also ran slides for over 100 hours, I ran the slides while I slept and watched regular content when I wanted to watch tv and If I left or went to bed I let the slides run.

Not really helpful, but okay...

So what do I do in order to determine if this is IR or burn in? I did in fact put in the slides and have had them running a couple of hours, and so far there is not a noticeable reduction in the image.

Not likely burn in, probably just IR, may be stubborn IR though. Slides don't help with IR. Better off using the screen wipe, watch HD movies on like HBO or use Disney WoW pixel flipper.

I've had my 60ST60 for 3 days. I have been running slides at night and watching whatever I want during the day. I got some stubborn IR this morning. I watched espn for about an hour and a half without changing the channel. It left a clear espn logo. I've been running the WoW pixel flipper since about 11 this morning and it's finally gone away. No more espn on the home theater setting without changing the channel for at least a couple hundred more hours until these phosphors settle down a little bit. I may have to turn down the contrast in the mean-time.

Slides will help with IR but the WOW disc will do much better.

I just sent the wow disc back last week because I thought it was useless of course. Guess I'll order it again.

I'm hoping it doesn't hurt the TV to have the IR for a few days? It's not something that turns into burn in if I don't fix it right away is it?

Not at all. Just avoid whatever it is thats caused the ir.

I realize it might not be helpful but I just wanted to share I have never seen a touch of IR but I always use format to make sure screen in filled in completely and made everyone aware in the house that they are to fill the screen and not leave menus up or a static logo on if they aren't in the room.

in other words I really really babied this set for over 300hours before I even watched regular tv/cable I ran slides for the first 100 hours basically and only blue ray dvds for the next 200 hours. Its is possible the way I treated it helped me reduce the chances on my set or maybe I am just lucky as well. take it as you will

sometimes I have trouble even believing its the content we watch because there are so many damn commercials and there isn't static logos on commercials in the same place as the channels logo so really if you left your tv on the same channel for 2 hours only about an hour would be with a static image and the premium channels only flash it temporarily and than it goes away again. my dad has had his Panasonic plasma since 2002 and it still looks brand new with zero ir and he is a sports fanatic never stops watching sports and a lot of CNN

There are videos on Youtube that will run 8 plus hours that are just effective & it would be one less device in the chaing running all night.

I know your reasons posted prior for not ordering online but my experiences with AMZ has been 100% satisfactory.
One of my big concerns has always been taxes & inside front door delivery.

In some states the former has been eliminated but the latter is still a convenience smile.gif

Do you mind sharing the link to one of these YT video's you mention - would be good to have on hand when/if I run into the issue.

Here's a few I found.

The bottom one doesn't look like 16x9 though. But I guess you could just zoom or something.

About D-NICE's slide process:

Based on my past plasma break-in ('07 Samsung HPT5054), where I had watched Cartoon Network for 200 hours zoomed in with the contrast & brightness turned down to almost black & white (low teens on their 0-100 scale if I recall) =- resulting in 5 years of non-IR ownership.

On my new ST60, I am using D-NICE's slides to run the break-in but he tell every1 to leave the custom settings at default while running the slides.

I actually didn't do that & actually cut the default settings to a generic 50 for contrast & color. In my mind that is "1/2" - please correct me on this point if I misstate.

Anyhow, I see IR mentioned & enviably the CONTRAST is usually cranked up in the 80+ range - which I assume is a default factory setting out of the box.

I'm not going to deny what the eyes like but to me one of the main culprits in IR is the high contrast+brightness settings esp. out of the box.

Anyone share this thought?

You won't get IR from running colored slides at a high contrast level.

I agree about the contrast and brightness settings being a big culprit for logoed channels and gaming, however, I have had my contrast in the 40s and brightness at like -5 and got very very slight IR from the Investigation Discovery logo after my wife had only watched it for like 1.5-2 hours. Yet I watched the Heat/Spurs game last night, same settings, even harsher logo and scoreboard and didn't leave anything. Who knows, its a mystery sometimes.

High contrast and brightness settings can contribute to getting ir easier. Especially when the set is new.

That is exaclty it. I don't think anyone knows but you have people who think they do. Especially the ones who claim they never got IR.

When I had my ST60, I could have the DisneyJr channel on for 5 hours straight and not a single hint of IR. Run a Fox Sports Nascar race for an hour or so and got IR that took more then a day to dissapear.

There is no real answer to what casues IR and when you will and will not get it.

I have a 5 year old cheap 42" Insignia plasma that get temporary IR from almost everything on the screen, lol. It disppears within seconds though and I have never had anything hang around for more then a day on that thing and it is probably one of the worst plasma's you could buy. Now jump 5 years later, a plasma made by one of the best plasma producers and it has given me more stubborn IR then my Insignia. Go figure.

That's not what I was trying to suggest.
My point was that whatever method of break-in people use, the high contrast settings appear to be a big player in the IR.

So cranking it up on break-in with full screen color slides - won't do much - nor will setting it to nil prevent out of the box.
But consistently cranking it up above 80+ IMO contributes to future IR esp. when the set has low usage hours.

so how long should you live with IR until you need to call panasonic because it's definitely burn in? would burn in be noticeable on the screen once the TV is turned off?
