How do you change the menu of the TV so when you turn it on you get the actual TV picture instead of the other screens and also get rid of the banner ads?

What do you mean? RGB range? RGB vs YCbCr?

For RGB, either set it to Limited with your ST60 on Auto or Standard; or set it to Full with your ST60 set to Nonstandard.

For Blu-Ray I recommend YCbCr (4:2:2 if possible).

I just changed a 50" for 60" and two questions

1) Theres a light buzzing sound at the back, sounds kinda like a fan? Is that normal or problematic

2) the only 60" they had was a demo and there's a light burn in, that'll go away?

I know exactly what that TV looks like. Just because you don't see the flaws inherent to all CRTs doesn't mean they aren't there.

Lots of people have trouble adjusting to new technologies. Remember all those people that didn't want to give up their vacuum tube driven equipment? He is right on one point. CRT is better for kids et al that are playing video games for hours. Of course while a plasma wouldn't be good - he should go to an LCD. Having gigantic obsolete piece of equipment is plain ugly and space wasting. When we took over a condo 6 years ago in Miami, the old owner left behind a huge (ugly) cabinet which held his CRT. Removing it increased the floor space by many sq. ft.
I do miss going to "the Shack" w. my father to test tubes.

CRT drawbacks aren't opinion, they are inherent to the format the same as plasma flaws are inherent to plasmas. If you don't see them, good for you. Don't ever make the mistake of looking for them.

I shouldn't post late at nite!! Thanks. I should have picked up on that. My apologies to the fan of "Rush" the musicians. And, as a plasma fan since 2001 - I am well aware of their faults as well as their pluses.

Good news about the burn in. A little buzzing is normal. I can hear my 60ST60 from the couch ten feet away if the screen is almost completely white. And then it's only with the sound muted. Never heard it in normal viewing. I think you'll always hear it standing close to the set or behind it plugging in cables etc.

Having some issues with my latest st60 (previous st60 had audio lag on OTA to internal speakers which new set does not).

I notice that when a new scene is displayed, any thing with letters and even the images themselves are fuzzy or pixelated for about one second. After about a second they seem to go through some sort of processing and smooth out. Also many scenes that include pictures inside of the scene (think news casts) are horrible with what looks like tearing lines running through them. Do these issues have a name and any fixes?

This is all OTA antenna direct to tv. I have all noise and smoother processes disabled, and it doesn't help when I use them either.

I saw none of these issues with my previous st60 however its audio lag was unacceptable. Do most here really have to go through multiple sets to find one that works like it should? I wilklsay my last set had outstanding picture.

Whoa now, time out gentleman!! I am a fan of the GROUP Rush and have been for over 30 years (thus indicating my age no doubt wink.gif ) And I am also a lady (well some people I know may beg to differ biggrin.gif )

Let me state that I am by no means on here to bash plasma and sing the praises of CRT. I could head on over to the appropriate forum if I wanted to do that.
In fact while perusing the tvs at Best Buy & Sears hubby and I were both taken aback by how fantastic the plasma picture looked in comparison to the LCD's that everyone else in the store seemed to gravitate towards. OK, so we were the ONLY ones looking at plasmas.

Anyways, maybe what I was initially trying to say (and I am better with words in person rather than a keyboard) is that we bought the plasma BECAUSE we love the PQ and for old fossils like myself it is like the PQ of a nice CRT x 1,000. Someday it was going to be a choice of LCD or whatever plasma was still out there and lord knows we didn't want to be watching something like that Phillips LCD that's over at my mom's house eek.gif

Picked up the ST60 late last night and it will be unboxed today.

You'll love it. I just moved up to a P55ST60 from a Sony 34XS955 (same tube as your XBR), and the Panny plasma is a worthy successor.

"Faults" with diff. screen technologies:
CRT -
1. Screen limited in size to under 35".
2. Size of unit is huge.
3. Now obsolete. Probably soon to be unrepairable.

Plasma -
1. Somewhat expensive.
2. Susceptible to burn-in.
3. May be completely obsolete in next couple years. (Believe only Samsung will be left after early 2014.)
4. Not as good as LCD in brightly lit situations.

LCD -
1. Not as true to color as plasma or CRT (Has improved considerably in last 5 years)
2. More limited as to range of view from sides.

Not true. Sony had a 40" monster and mine was a 36".
