I really doubt that they'll make LCD TVs that will match the picture quality of their Plasmas. They don't even make the best LCDs to begin with. Their 2014 models have to be significantly better than the previous year.

It's what Panny is saying and had on demo next to the VT and people said its blacks and picture quality was on par.

what I heard on here was that the demo was done under conditions that wouldn't allow reviewers to actually compare them.

I just find it really hard to believe Panasonic could go from producing mediocre LED's to the best edge-lit LED EVER produced, in one model year. if they were using FALD, then I would keep an open mind, but the claim doesn't fit the specs at all. it'd be more believable for them to say they made a plasma that's brighter than LED and uses less power... haha

Well with them no longer making plasmas and plasma pretty much dead, I sure as hell hope Panasonic comes through on these clams, as I don't want a lesser quality picture.

The zt in that demo was in low panel brightness mode which compromises mll so it was a skewed demo to make the LCD look better

LCD TVs another issue is viewing angle. I am not sure the above solutions or proposed by recent advances, correct this issue.

We got a low end Vizio LCD for the bdrm. Don't do any serious watching there - mainly CNN in the AM (when they used to do news before the plane crash) and maybe the Daily Show/Colbert at nite. Now in the morning watch some BBC for news.

The field of view is quite narrow. If you stand slightly away from either side of the bed - picture rapidly starts to vanish.

I think the LCD technology can't correct that issue anyway, but of course I could be wrong. I don't want to go back to LCD ever again unless it's a computer monitor which is completely different.

I just hope my ST60 last long enough as they claimed or just enough to the point where OLED become affordable. Hopefully you can buy a 50" 1080p OLED TV with superior picture than any Plasma ever made for <$1000 in the next 5-7 years.

This is the ****** thing... OLED is still a ways away and because of useless 4K for these size TVs we lose out on plasma cause they can't be marketed as 4K, yet I bet these plasmas will still look better than most 4K TVs. Love tech but also hate it for these reasons.

Yeah, it adds around 30 ms. I never turn it on due to that. It's really a shame and I wish they'd fix it.

Hrm, that's what it was tested as with the original release firmware anyways. I don't know if anyone's ever done another test with it on with any of the newer firmwares. It's kind of silly that it adds any.

It syncs up the signal ensuring the incoming 1080p source signal lines up with the 1080p panel array exactly. With it active you can depend on a 1080 source not being scaled nor otherwise distorted. It made my HTPC output noticeably sharper.

Sometimes, I see dead pixels...

I hate the plasma so much. Sick of the temp IR and constantly having to change the contrast when I watch sports to alleviate it.

What 4k would you guys recommend me? And btw I am in Dallas, if anyone wants to buy my 60"...

Get an LCD. You will not get any benefit from 4k.

So for anyone else with the banding issue, don't expect to get any help from Panasonic. They fed me the "your TV is performing to specs" BS line. I spent 10 minutes on the phone yesterday bitching out a CS supervisor. Told her she just lost a customer and hung up. Just plain aweful customer service.

She was probably thinking jokes on you. I don't see Panasonic pushing out TV's much longer. We'll see though. After my experience with burn-in on this set, this will be last Panny set too. Disappointing considering the potential.

Purchased the tv, brought it home, & ran slides for a 100 hours. Once slides were finished, I plugged in D-Nice's setting. I then broke out my Eye One Pro & Eye One Display & with Calman took measurements to see how well D-Nice's settings reference. The delta e was under 5 & I was pretty impressed, but said lets dial it in better. So I calibrated my set & got it where I liked. I then watched The Dark Knight & was very happy with the results. The next day, LSU Baseball (SEC Championship) was playing on ESPN. So, I watched the game, about 3 hrs. total, & after the game my kids began watching Disney Jr. There were a lot of bright scenes on one of the shows they were watching. I clearly seen a ESPN logo in the bottom right corner. That night I ran the pixel flipper over night & didn't go away. I ran the refresh screen over night & it din't go away. I avoided ESPN for about a week on the set & it din't go away. Now a year later, the logo is still there & there is also some more burn in on the screen. This is with a contrast setting of 82. So I called Panny about it when it first happened & pleaded with the rep & they basically told me, "sucks to be you". Looking forward to new technology...

I have the same issue as yours. Tech came out a couple of months ago and said that it's due to IR. He called last week and said that Panasonic also agrees that it's IR and that I'm SOL.

Guess it's the luck of the draw. I didn't do anything special. Obviously didn't run any 4:3 movies the first month (not that we ever watch many except some classics on TCM) and watched modest amount of sports. Don't have kids at home -so don't watch Disney. Do watch a fair amount of CNN (in the background - work at home) and they have fixed logo and crawl banners. (Did watch CNN 2-3+ hours/day (often w. sound off) until a month ago when they dropped news broadcasts - now mostly seem to run a repeating reel about a plane so now don't bother checking that channel.) Never had IR on this or any previous Panny plasma.

Questions - Has this panel been more susceptible to IR and BURN IN than previous models? Does the fact many (most?) people think this has a better picture than previous models somehow tie in to those problems? Is that why Panny priced this so low? Did the more expensive models this past year have these problems?

What I did was not watch any 2:40:1 or 2:35:1 movies I stretched to full screen and I turned the contrast down to below 70. Kept everything else the same, avoided as much static content for the first 300hrs. I didn't run any slides on my ST60. I have no IR.

Start here. Make sure the set has LED backlighting AND has local dimming. That should get you as close to the plasma as possible, except for off axis viewing.

If i HAD to buy an LCD, the XBR55X850A is at the top of my list. But after auditioning three of them now, the contrast starts to fall off noticeably as soon as i move one foot off center and gets worse the farther off center i go.

Not the end of the world if it were in my Man Room, but in the den i'd have to make sure that i set dead center and keep my reasons a secret from my co-watchers and home they don't notice wink.gif

Surprised at all the problems folks are having. I bought mine as an open box buy with 3200 hours for a whopping $700 and have no IR and lyp syncing issues with any sources after the update.(knocking on wood). So far this TV has delivered and then some for me. Picture is best I've ever seen, I'm sure there is better out there, but for the price I can't complain, especially when I sold my old SXRD for $300, so in reality the 60ST only cost me $461 out the door.
