Its not how it looks, or that its "super sharp and clear", it just has something effecting motion. I dont recall noticing it in BB or HHGregg before I bought mine, so Im wondering if mine is defective somehow and its not disabling motion smoothing.

strange. would be a real shame if they forced some motion smoothing...

i didn't notice any of this when i reviewed in store either. the vt60, st60 and f8500 both did the same thing. they had it on by default, and i didn't notice it when viewing my test signals/videos. then i flipped over to some movies and it only took about 2 seconds to realize it was on. for me it looks like the video is being fast forwarded, not smoother. anyway, when i turned the features off on all three sets i no longer saw any problems. it does handle motion very well, and is pretty darn smooth. but it wasn't the same effect i saw with motion smoothing features turned on.

if you really want to test your gf, you should have told her you turned off the 'soap opera effect' and see if she buys it. if she says she still sees it then no question something is going on she doesn't like.

Are you guys using Game Mode? I know for sure that turns it off. I'll watch some content with Game Mode off to see if I notice anything.

What kind of content are you watching? Film? Need more details please.

Received my 60" this morning from ABT as well. Had to wait for a buddy to come over to attach the stand, etc... lol smile.gif

Set things up very quickly and watching a little tv content. Loving it so far! smile.gif

I also ran the slides for a little bit. Only a slight buzzing sound when on the white slide, and can only hear it when I'm behind the TV with my ear next to the TV.

Enjoy all smile.gif

Hideous ? Compared to the ST30 (2011 model) it's a work of art!

Yup, I could do without the shiny metal trim, I don't mind the contrast but I think brushed or dull/anodized would be better overall.

it may be the ugliest tv on the market today... when turned off.

i'm really not a fan of the silver. if you're going to do something 'fancy' like that then do it right (like on their LED displays). i would have greatly preferred a plain black bezel.

I agree it's an ugly TV and it would have been much better to stay all black... I actually prefer how the X60 looks.

Not a fan of the way the ST looks either. How does the VT look in comparison? The closest one is 90 miles away.

Uhhg...all these comments about needing to turn motion smoothing on for the 3D to be watchable have me very concerned about pulling the trigger on the ST60. David from cnet mentioned how it was difficult to watch 3D because of the motion, I am guessing that issue must be related why you all turn on motion smoothing.

I ABSOLUTELY CAN'T DEAL WITH ANY SOE!!!!

The 3D on my broken GT50 (I am replacing) was great (w/o needing motion smoothing) and I don't want to take a step back in this area.

The aesthetic look of the VT60 kinda gets ruined by the speakers on the side, and the added thickness because of the speakers. I'd still take the aesthetic look of the VT50. I think that is still the best looking Panasonic plasma TV (so far). I don't think the ST60 is bad looking at all. My first impression of the 50" was that it looked kinda cheap, not a premium as last years models. But, when I saw a 60", I changed my mind. The bigger TVs look better and the bezel is less in your face. Especially wall mounted. The stand is also one of the things that makes the ST60 look cheap IMO. I'm buying one tomorrow, and plan on wall mounting it for sure.

Can't really see the speakers in any of the pics I've seen of the VT. Are they visible only from the side? I hope to see one in person soon.

I am familiar with the pros/cons as I also own a 4 years old panasonic plasma in the bedroom. We also have a 47" LG passive 3D tv in another room. (I like the passive 3D technology.)

Just how much is this tv better than my old Sony. Any idea?

Thank you.

My brother has that exact same Sony XBR4. I can tell you with certainty that the ST60 will be a significant upgrade. My source of comparison is a GT50 and The ST60 is even better.

Did you notice if the ST60 has a sharper picture than that of the ST50? If so, is it by a wide margin? Thanks

I want to chime in on the motion smoothing topic.

Some have commented that even with motion smoother set to off they still see some SOE. I am very sensitive to motion interpolation and I can tell you that on my GT50 I DID notice some low lying motion processing going on even with it set to off.

These TV's native hz. Setting is 60hz. For that reason cable content wasn't at all bothersome because it is broadcast in 60hz anyways. Where it was bothersome to me was with film content (bluray/dvd). This is shot in 24hz. To using the 60hz setting meant that it HAD to apply motion interpolation (because 60 is not divisible by 24. For a display to show film content properly it must use a 24/48/72/96 hz. Processing. It has to be manually engaged. Unfortunetly flicker can be a problem with these settings. 48 hz was unusable on the GT50. So I had to learn to just live with 60hz. Most people don't even notice a difference anyways.

I don't think any current plasma models do a great job with these 24fps settings (even the F8500).

I am hoping the 96hz setting will be at least mostly flicker free on the ST60.

With the ST60 (or any heavy app smart TVs), is it possible in 7 years or so, for the input lag to increase and slow the whole system dow?. Kind of like an old computer. Since the apps are always in the back ground, that means the processor is always working and will eventually have problems like older PCs? I wish the apps were not on by default, who cares if it takes a little while to boot up the smart function anyways. I may be old (29), but I want a TV to be a TV.

edit, Old as in my mind, I don't like new things =)

My Question is, will the TV become slow after a number of years like a PC? I want a good quality picture with the louver filter. Therefore, I want the ST60.

The speakers are almost laughably thin on the side of the TVs bezel. About a fingertip length. But they are visible. But the "front firing speakers" do add a lot of depth/thickness to the TV itself. Kinda odd they would go that route of trying to "upgrade" the sound. You'd think with that high end of a TV, most people would be using a sound bar or 5.1 (or 7.1) sound system.

Apples to oranges. A TV has a totally custom operating system, and tv's don't have hard drives so it's all solid state. To answer your question, no. Even if it was yes, you could just reset to factory defaults.

The question for me is why did they downgrade the speaker system on all the other models and then go through that kind of trouble on the VT?

mrkdilkington, thank you very much. Before spending 2700 on a 60st60 (2000 + 300 taxes + 400 for 4 year warranty), I was worried since the speculation is the always on apps are too much for the processor and is causing lag, I thought that it might eventually slow down the entire system.

I suppose it's remotely possible, but ordinarily old processes are purged by a system restart, even for an old computer. So it's hard to imagine that processes could build up and clog the system for years. Actually, in a modern system, having additional processes in the background needn't slow the system down, so this theory that input lag is caused by apps is not very plausible, in my opinion.

So I think we're past the point of gushing about how amazing this set looks...Well, I'm not!

I went back to Video Only today...I was in the area, still didn't have my TV so I figured why not be weird and go look at something I already bought and am waiting for. I'm not sure if they changed their video source for it or not but damn this thing was looking amazing just on Vivid. I compared it to the F5500 again and now it was the F5500 that looked kind of flat. Not to mention that thing is a mirror! But anyways, I just tortured myself because now I'm in even more of a hurry to get this damn thing. We'll see if I actually run slides. 4 days is an awful long time to wait! Then again, I've already been waiting....

One question I have about plasmas: When I make my LG LED have darker blacks, I also find it extremely hard to see what's going on in dark scenes. Is it like that with plasmas or not at all?
