I've had my eye on the TC-P42S60 since it was announced, as it's the biggest plasma I could find to fit into a wall cavity I have. Panasonic told me "Sometime in late February, or maybe in March." Amazon has an email alert for availability. Any guesses, based on previous years, when we might see these shipping or at least pre-order on Amazon?

Thanks!

I deserved that. Just hoping somebody would know something. As you can tell, I'm anxious.

Heh heh, well the best you can probably hope for is that the smaller sizes will be released on time (which would probably be the last week of February).

Their product page shows the 42" & 50" shipping in February, and 55"/60"/65" shipping in March (just change the size in the URL to see other sizes). None of us civilians really know anything other than what they indicate on their website, but what i do every year is look at the online list of downloadable owners manuals and see when the new models start popping up. That usually indicates that the TV is going to be released in about a week or so.

A Best Buy employee said they just got a few in, and someone said a BB ad indicated availability on Saturday March 9th.

I actually ordered them direct from Panasonic and got two of them two weeks ago. Great TVs!

Joining this forum to ask about the S60 as this is the only place talking about it so far! Looking to purchase my first flat-screen TV, if you can believe it, to replace a tube sony. Once concern is that the distance from TV to couch isn't very big so I'm hoping to not get a TV that's too huge. 50+ is just too big for my space, and looking at Plasmas less than 50 there aren't many options. Seeing this one listed 2 months ago has had me thinking the 42" S60 is the sweet spot for me.

I only care about a good quality TV. No 3D, don't need widgets on my homescreen. Will probably buy a Blu-Ray player which will have more online options, though I believe the S60s have the basic services like Netflix anyway, just not the full "my homescreen" experience, which I can live without.

There's really no other plasma I'm considering. Cheaper models from Panasonic and Samsung are 720p, and the next step up in features are all physically larger and out of my budget. I just want to make sure spending 700+ on the 42S60 is worth it over buying an LED, where I can go cheaper and/or just have more options (too man options to be honest).

I mostly watch TV and movies. No sports. No video games. I'm concerned about smoothing and flicker issues mostly. I understand some of that is smoothing features that can be turned off, but would I be seeing issues with non-HD material?

Any other thoughts on an S60 vs LEDs?

i would think it is a no brainer...plasma is simply a better technology...hopefully it doesn't have any glaring issues.

Best to wait a bit and see, i guess...hopefully a good review will be forthcoming as I'd like a 42" as well.

Obviously there hasn't been any formal reviews of the S60 because it just started shipping, but I would imagine it'll be just a hair higher than or above the S30. Given the consistent year over year improvements the Panasonic PDPs have shown.
