Hey guys, I'm sort of at a dilemma here, so please hear me out.

First of all, I'm keeping my budget < $1000 and choosing between the two plasmas.

Option A:
P55ST50 from Amazon warehouse, comes to $1000 after tax/shipping
-Slightly used

Option B:
P60U50 from Beach Camera, comes to $969 after tax/shipping
-Brand new

I understand that the ST model has the smart tv, 3D function, which is just luxury for me but not really a necessity since I have a HTPC anyways. My my main focus is going to be the overall PQ.

So what do you guys think? Is the ST worth it for the better display and features? (I lose the 5 inches and that it will be from Amazon warehouse. Price difference is only $30 so its not a big deal)

Thanks for any input!

If you cannot control the light in your viewing area or plan to do a lot of daytime watching, you might want to go with the ST50 because of the anti-glare filter. I exchanged a UT50 for an ST50 because of this

Yeah, the U and UT series is bad in a bright room or with any type of direct light.

The other question is whether you want 3D as the U series is 2D only (assuming that wasn't a typo for UT).

I'm no expert as my 55ST50 is my first plasma, but the PQ is excellent and it also does well even when it's bright outside smile.gif (well, bright for the UK... lol)

That, and given you have better calibration options on the ST, as I understand it, would make me choose the ST if I had to buy again!

Have you demo'd both in a shop?

Personally I found the ABL to be unacceptable on my U50. The GT50 I replaced it with is much better in that regard, I imagine the ST50 is similar.

No one else seems to be bothered by it though, so there's always a chance i had a defective unit.

Anyway, my 2 cents.

Unfortunately, I'm currently at school and the nearest retail location does not have the UT or U series on demo.

Thanks for the input everyone, I think I may take my chances with the ST50 first and see how things goes. *crosses finger*
