I'm not so sure about the F5300 or the F5500 being pentile. In the Best Buy near me they had the 60inch F5300 right next to last year's 60inch 550 and I could see the screen door effect on the 550 but it was not noticeable if apparent at all on the F5300. Also, if you look on Samsung's website the tech specs resolution for all of last year's pentiles (60inch) was listed as 1080p vertical resolution. Last year's 51 and 65 inch models and the F5300 60inch are listed as just 1080p resolution. Just my observations but I do not believe that the F5300 is a pentile display.

There was a 60' F5500 on display at futureshop (Canada) and it was a pentile display frown.gif

But there was only a small paper with not much info that said F5500, with luck it was a lower model on display :/

Just FYI,
According to samsung.com/us website, the 60" PN60F5500 is Pentile:
Native Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 (Black & White)
Resolution: 1080p Vertical
http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/PN60F5500AFXZA-specs

Meanwhile, the 60" PN60F5300 is not.
http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/PN60F5300AFXZA-specs

For 51" & 64", both F5500 and F5300 are not Pentile, according to their website.

Some news site said that US F5300 is the same as UK F5000, but in my country, Indonesia, the PS60F5000 is Pentile.
Confused? Me too..
You can clearly see this on the box, the pentile panels have "1080p Vertical" symbol on them.

To be safe though, I'll steer clear of all 60" Samsung Plasma...
I'm also questioning samsung practice of different panels technology in the same series, F5500..
IMHO, they should at least differentiate it more by assigning different series number..

If you cannot tell if the F5300 is pentile from your regular seating distance versus take a photograph of its pixels to verify, why does it matter?

Because you are seeing it whether you know it or not. Pentile becomes more noticeable as PPI goes down. So the closer you sit, the worse it gets. The larger the screen yo buy, the worse it gets.

What is it you are seeing with pentile exactly? Is this the screen door effect?

In the PDf download specs for both the 51 and 64 inch panels, the specs state:

PICTURE QUALITY
- Full HD 1080p
- 1080p Vertical Picture Performance 1920x1080 . How is that different than 1080P Vertical on the 60" model?

http://www.samsung.com/us/system/consumer/product/pn/64/f5/pn64f5500afxza/F5500_Plasma_SpecSheet_R14.pdf

Yes correct.
I'm basing on the fact that it is stated 1920x1080 (Black&White) and 1080p Vertical on the website.
Also based on the fact of different logo in the carton box, there are 2 different logo, "Full HD" shield symbol and "1080p Vertical" shield symbol.
And now, also based on the PDF Spec Sheet you just linked:
- 1080p Vertical Picture Performance 1920x1080 (Black and White)*
*Applies to 60" PN60F5500 only -> very small print at the bottom of first page.
Yes, that damned small print.. O_o;;
Well, at least samsung spin it as an Energy Saving "feature"...

This is what Samsung sent me. The question was "Does the PN60F5300 have a Pentile Panel?"
Quite a sidstep with no real answer. Disappointing to say the least...

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

This would actually not be a specification that we would have available to us. In the technical support department we would not have any information on the internal components of the television. You may be able to contact a Samsung authorized service center, or purchase the service manual for your product.

You can purchase a service manual for this TV from our parts department J&J Parts. Their website is www.samsungparts.com. You can also call them at 1-800-627-4368. They are available Mon-Fri from 9:00am-8:30pm EST. I can also provide a link below where you can locate your local Samsung authorized technician. I hope that this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Just take a macro picture of one to find out. It's very easy to tell: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1467425/panasonic-st60-vs-samsung-f5500/30#post_23224408

Waiting for a review and input lag tests. I'll make my choice between the PN51F5500, TCP50ST60 or UN50F6400 LED... I game a lot. I was about to go with the ST60... But bad input lag is a deal breaker for now...

Any word on if the 64" set has pentile panel? These are fairly well priced and will pick one up unless it has the pentile panel folks are taking about. I have been a dlp user for years so this would be my first plasma.
