Hello there ! Thanks for all those great pictures :-)

It would be fantastic if you could give us some détails regarding :
- The panel uniformity (any vertical banding & co ?)
- The dithering (any image rendering noise, especially in dark scenes?)
- The image retention (any issues with logos...Etc)
- The 24p performance with BR (is it totally fluid?)

Thanks a lot in advance !

No, at least through 2012.

The max luminance of the F8500 is new ground for plasma. Bravo.

I will try and answer more questions today. Right now I have to say the picture on this set is amazing. I don't regret it at all. The only thing I really don't like are the smart features. Plus I think it adds to the heat in the back on that side. I haven't seen any uniformity, banding, dithering, noise etc..only slight buzz in the back. I am a previous 8G Kuro owner I guess I never really had those issues that a lot of people talk about here. I havent seen any IR yet since my girl likes to watch everything that has logos smile.gif As far as 24p performance the only Bluray I have seen is Skyfall and didnt witness any slowdowns or stutters. I tried to take a picture of an all white backround but it was in 4:3 this camera has noise on it that I didnt see in the backround so try not to base too much on these. It looked really good to me.

I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying it gets very hot at the back?

Sorry for the confusion. There is typical plasma heat coming from the vents up top in the rear and what I was saying is the little evolution pack with all the processing power in it probably adds to the heat so it is a tad warmer on that side.
My idea of warm or hot may be different than yours but it does get warm but definitely not nearly as warm as my previos 8g Kuro

To ask another q: how close can you get before you start seeing 'pixels' on 1080i or 720p cable footage for instance?

Discount cable compression of course.

Is it just me or does the center of the screen appear lighter than the top and bottom?

Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Tivo Roamio for OTA, Dish VIP722, Marantz AV8801 preamp, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP, Calman 5, Chromapure, Accupel DVG-5000, i1Display3pro, i1pro2, eecolor colorbox.

Its my camera. Its an old camera and what I was seeing was more even and uniform than what you see here. Even though the Tyson pictures look good that tells you how much better it will look in person.
My tv is angled down a little bit not sure If light filter comes into play either.
I didn't want to put those white pictures up because of the quality of my camera but im sure people would like to know If its bad and I am here to tell you this set is outstanding in a lot of ways.

I would think the only time Smart TV would affect any heat issues is when it is use... I never broke in a plasma but from what I've read heat levels will come down after its broken in (100 + hours)..
Sadly and I'm sure you'll agree the white photos captured are not close to the actual display, if you had 4 different cameras each would give us very different "whites" plus a pure white screen is the brightest display and all cameras struggle with super bright subjects..
That said, I'm still super impressed with your photos of this TV, I'm dying to see it in person, locally our b&m stores are notoriously slow in getting new TVs in and on display.. HH Gregg doesn't even show them in their computers yet and Sears manager told me they won't even get any in our store even though they do have them in stock at their warehouse (I'd have to order it sight unseen).. Ugh

EDIT: Researching known BL values, it looks like the average MLL of the 9G Elite (141FD) is actually 0.001 (with D-Nice able to achieve 0.0005 and lower on some panels). I'm not really qualifying those lower numbers since only one person is known to be able to pull it off using some proprietary method. It looks like this Samsung might be a match actually. We are talking about minutiae to be fair, but I watch for the sake of escapism, in a dark setting, with hardly any other usage of the panel. The deeper the blacks, the more escapist and immersive the experience.

"Sort of" speaking in jest wink.gif

But seriously, the Samsung for most people should be a far more versatile panel. With the ability to at least tie (or come damn close) to the best ever black levels and then, still be able to achieve far superior brightness...well, that's a far more flexible display in my book.

I would also bet the whites will be whiter when full screen whites are called for (or nearly full screen). smile.gif

No issue here, it's just a question of horizontal viewing angle with the camera. That's why we see a brighter zone.

Ditto here, at least 90% movies, darkened room, even painted my ceiling bronze/gold as the light of the tv reflecting off the ceiling was too much light for me LOL All for the escapism and immersion.

Power Usage of 122W seems kinda odd. I doubt that it could be that efficient lol.
Tomeo, how is image detail, sharpnes etc? Maybe you had a chance to game with your set? How's input lag

I'm very sure the 'Typical Power' rating 122 watts is when the Cell Light is at 10 or all the way down.
The default cell light out of the box in Movie mode is 18 so yes over 400 watts would be normal.
All Samsung plasma TV have a Typical Power' rating at less than half the real power use when the cell light is at 20.
