Can someone please tell me how to turn on Game Mode? Is it only available in a certain picture mode or something? I can't find it in the menus.

please post back once you get it in your hands, on your impressions. Chris has very good pricing, and a stellar reseller rating, but his return policy is to much for me to swallow.

My 64F8500 is being delivered tomorrow and I can't hardly wait. Does the stand come already attached to the TV?

My stand is about same width as the screen on the 65es8000 that I had, so I hope that is wide enough. Might hang over about an inch on each side.

I'm hoping someone has a few suggestions for a problem that just cropped up.

I turned on my system with my Harmony One in order to watch some cable (actually Fibe) and I get this message on the F8500 "No Cable Connected." My cable box is connected to HDMI 1. Next I try watching a Blu Ray (which unlike the cable box is connected directly to my TV at HDMI 3) and I get the same message.

I have had this setup for the past 25 days and now suddenly it stops working!??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Of all the things to try and compare with two pictures?

With so many variables throwing any form of accurate statistics WAY off.

I wonder if we can compare shoes next in the same way? rolleyes.gif

I missed those pictures, pretty funny. The guy compares a calibrated Kuro with an out-of-the-box 8500 and his point is what? In fact the Kuro's colors look a bit whacked to me. Too yellow.

You gotta love these guys. rolleyes.gif

Oh I can. I've just come from FIOS to Directv over the past week and can see the difference. FIOS was sharper on a number of channels and the dynamic range of the signal is less. I remember only last week on FIOS getting those exceedingly bright whites with some of those commercials (not that I care, but just as a benchmark) and now those same commercial don't begin to have that 'blinding' effect. It's as if the dynamic range has been cut significantly. I was actually expecting a drop in sharpness, but the dynamic range thing has taken me by surprise. I guess if you never had FIOS you'd never notice.

It still is a very nice picture, don't get me wrong, but it does make me appreciate FIOS more than ever. Our new house doesn't have FIOS here yet as there is the typical politics in FIOS trying to gain access to towns that are 'Cablevision controlled'.

I had DirecTV before I switched to FiOS and DirecTV definitely had better PQ for quite a few channels.

Interesting. So JM, you're finding the FIOS picture less appealing than the Directv?

Yeah, it's been my experience that my picture is less sharp (although hard to say 100% since I never had them side by side) but I definitely get more pixelation with FiOS than I ever did with DirecTV. I will say that it definitely depends on the channel though. Channels like USA were definitely better on DirecTV but I'd say the ESPN channels look better on FiOS. I'm not sure what could cause that but it's definitely been my experience.

And I think D-Nice ended up reducing Cell on a F8500 in order to get use out of all or most of the10 point control regions instead of only five or so when Cell was at 20 and Contrast reduced.

It's a very, very bright set indeed.

This was the exact problem D-nice had with my TV last week when he calibrated. I was unaware this happened on previous models.

Hi - I remember that post but will likely run out of time. I'll put it on my list for the next one I do. Thanks for the reminder. smile.gif

Again, I have a nice set ready for testing. wink.gif

I had the same issue with my Harmony remote on occasion early on in my ownership of the F8500. On occasion there would be this hdmi handshake issue between the TV and device where the Hdmi controller board gets locked up as you describe. Unplug power from your TV, wait a few seconds, then plug back in and you should be good for clearing the error. I since changed the order of device power up in my activities so the TV always powers on first and then the source and I haven't had the problem since. Apparently the Hdmi board booting first and fully before getting a signal from the connected source helps. (Knock on wood!) If you still have the issue after that maybe add a delay as well to give even more time.

Just got the OK to post this from Robert over at VE. Several of Samsung's top engineers were in Robert's store today (man, does he have the ear of some of these companies!) and he's got some great news!

The latest version of the firmware they loaded totally eliminated both the pops & any floating blacks some of you may have observed. Robert thought the new firmware,1017.2, might begin as early as the end of next week. Robert's version was even newer and won't yet be available. I'm not 100% certain as to whether the update you guys will receive is the 'pop eliminator', but it may be. Either way, it sure looks like it's coming. Do NOT call Samsung for this as they'll have no idea what you're talking about.

Here's the shot from the 'event' today. That's Robert & Kevin Miller in the middle and I assume one of the Samsung engineers on the right.

A big thanks to Robert for all his hard work in getting these things to happen!!!! smile.gif

Robert emphasized that you must have your display set for automatic download or you will not receive the update.
Ph8te's Avatar Ph8te 09:42 PM 04-25-2013
Thank you for the update Ken and thank you to Robert for getting this issue escalted and hopefully cleared away. cant wait to see the results from the new firmware. Now for the wait and for the firmware to get released into the "wild" where the real tests will happen.

I think there were a few links posted earlier in this thread, but I cant remember if it was this thread or the other f8500 that was going on during that time....If you serch for fluctuation or pop in this thread and go to the earliest posts, you may be able to find it.
