Kevin Millers Preliminary Review of Samsung’s New PN60F8500 PLASMA is up at tweaktv. Thanks to Robert Zohn for the latest update. Kevin Miller says its "clearly one of the best flat panels money can buy from a picture quality and video performance perspective. Highly Recommended!"
A lot of great information there. He Also came to same conclusion as me about the close range viewing angles.

Maybe the 64" panel is better. Not that these measures are not outstanding...

I would be interested to hear if anyone has experienced the directional, beaming buzz from these sets. I returned a pn60e7000 due to this buzz (which went from hardly noticeable on day 1 to unnerving on day 29). I have critical ears and thought this buzz was a characteristic of all 2012 samsungs. Until today, every E6500 and above set that I have seen in showrooms has exhibited this directional buzz, which has a "buzzzzzz" undertone with a higher frequency "tick-tick-tick-tick....." overtone. It beams straight out of the panel.

I think the reflections of this sound were worse than the actual source. Because the sound beamed straight out, not to the sides, the reflections off the back wall (behind your head) made it much more noticeable. I found acoustic absorption behind the seating position tamed a significant amount of the buzz. This could explain different experiences with the buzz, as the acoustics in each room are different. The progressive increase in buzz ultimately made me abandon ship.

I saw a pn64e8000 in BB today and lo and behold, no buzz. So this tells me that the buzz is not an inherent "feature" of these displays, however common it may be.

My finger is on the trigger for a 64 inch F8500. So tell me, owners, does this set sound like a deep fryer?

Haven't calibrated, but out the box in Dynamic Mode, Cell Light 20 with the set sitting in the living room with a large bay window to the right of it:

I'll run through the WOW calibration blu-ray shortly but we watched a snippet of Casino Royal and my wife kept saying the movie looked liked a version of Rick Steeve's travel shows in HD. The Motion Judder Cancellation was a little unnerving in fast-motion scenes, but disabling that works great.

Congrats on your new toy. Thanks for sharing the photos - they look stunning to me. I know photos can be deceiving but, I'm remaining an optimist that this is the set that I've been waiting a long time for. BTW: What size is yours? (tv, that is)

So just to clarify, if you set the motion judder canceler to its highest level (smooth?), it produces the Soap Opera Effect? I'm a big fan of the SOE. I REALLY dislike 24p judder. Does the frame creation cause any artifacts?

Also, can anyone confirm if the MJC can be used on 3D? I know there are more than a few 3D projectors out now that allow frame creation/interpolation on 3D.

Obviously there are far more people not experiencing these issues, but to be in denial that many are...well, I don't know what to say.

I finally got a chance to see the set on display at a local dealer, I haven't been this impressed with a tv since the last Kuro's were on display. I coundt take my eyes off of it, very impressive, and they also had the VT50 but in a brighter room. To my eyes, the samsung looked better but it also benefited from a darker environment. Wasn't planning on buying it till the Panasonic VT60 hit the market, but it looked so damn good that i said what the hell, and pre-ordered the 51 inch model, hope to get it before Easter.

Surfmlb, i know you said you picked it up yourself, do you remember the dimensions of the box? not sure if i need to take my wife's SUV or if it will fit it my sport wagon.

And also are you continuously using the the movie setting to break-in the panel for the first 100 hours? If not what is the best setting to use?

Remush, did you play with the settings at all? I'm curious if you tried the day mode (not sure what Samsung calls it) to see if its brightness is somewhat competitive with LED in that category. It appears that it may well be from early reports.

A lot of great information there. He Also came to same conclusion as me about the close range viewing angles.

My close viewing angle in large part, along with the horriifc lighting and lack of good settings, would help explain my first impressions two weeks ago of the F8500. I am so happy I was initially wrong!

One question I have about the set is how close to the 64" can you see the pixels or dither?

Reason I ask is on my old vt50 55" I could see it from 9ft but I understand the f8500 has smaller pixels.

No, just movie mode. I went into the dealer specifically to see this model, but at first did not recognize it when I saw it, mainly because of the bezel, it is a lot lighter than i thought it would be. And the LED-like brightness also through me off too, so i initially assumed i was looking at the F8000 LED. However, when the movie switched to dark scenes, i knew this had to be the plasma, blacks were like tar, you could easily tell the blacks were much deeper than the E8000 that was in the same room. The picture was stunning enough for me to buy it on the spot, all the benefits of a plasma plus the brightness of an LED, you really have to see the set in person to appreciate the picture.
