Wise decision let someone else be the guinea pig, for those taht have thier sets calibrated, wait for someone who doest to do it so that if the settigns to get reset youll know ahead of time. The update file is dated for today, so sammy is pushing out these firmware fixes quickly, unfortunately the notes are the same as the past 3\2 updates so who knows what this is for or does. Even when the fix does come I dont see it being labled correctly.

Didn't Robert say the 'fix' update would only install via the automatic online update mechanism?

he did, but thats what he was told, and things can always change......I would wait until he hears back from his Samsung rep and relays that to the forums.....

I woulld agree with this, I think we may see limited release like LG is starting to do in South Korea, but "full production" I would point towards 2014\2015, I hope I am wrong though wink.gif

lol, my old samsung also got lots of updates. It was kind of annoying that they never documented all the changes in a way that you could see what was happening...it was never, "oh we fixed the luminance controls" *install update* and then luminance controls work. It was always this kind of generic list. Some updates definitely changed some picture settings though so a bunch of us stopped doing the updates automatically. In one instance they did a 'forced update' which actually overrode your user preference 'do not autoupdate' - after that one a bunch of us deleted all our network settings out of the tv since that was the only way we could truly stop them from forcing an update and let us preserve our tv and protect our calibration settings.

The description for the last firmware update Samsung issued for my DLP TV mentioned only sound improvements. The text failed to mention that it completely disabled the PIP feature. Samsung was unwilling to provide a way to remove the firmware update or re-enable the PIP function. The only option was to replace the $300 Main Board.

Any recommendations for 3d blu-ray rental sites?

Unfortunately I don't know a good place to rent 3D blu-ray I usually wait a bit for them to drop in price and/or get BB to price-match Amazon or order from Amazon directly. Unfortunately they tend to be priced at a premium above the non-3D versions. Hoping this will change in the future. Looks like forthcoming Gatsby will be in 3D, continuing the trend for non-sci-fi/fantasy/superhero movies being shot in 3D.

well that's just it, i'm not calibrated, i'm under warranty, I've got a solid satisfaction guaranteed return policy to rely on. I don't mind testing it out now that I think I've found a way to produce these 'pops'. I just don't want to install an update that's not for my TV. I don't know if there's any difference between Canadian and American models, but with all the 'smart' features there could be some location sensitive programming.

what worries me the most about this is that the update is set to off by default, and obviously wouldn't get pushed through to all the tv sitting in boxes. there has to be some way to get the update if you 'miss' the automatic one.

as for conspiracy theories, it makes sense that they'd want to do this 'secretly' so as to not admit there was a problem to begin with.

There was one online 3d rental site but required a deposit and I thing the rental fees were a little expensive, hopefully prices drop very reluctant to plop down $30 unless I have seen the movie in 3d and enjoyed it

Just installed 1103. It did something different and said "Optimizing system...this can take more than 2 minutes. Do not turn off, etc."

Interesting.

Let me just say this...

If you watch Hockey. You're going to be very very happy. smile.gif

I'm shocked. Watched the same game I've been testing with every firmware update thus far and ....no pops. Now to test 3D fluctuations.

BTW it did not blow out my settings

q's for you bb silver rewards members. (i might have to bump this enlight to the fw1103 findings) i saw a post on avs that a member said the bb rep told him he wasn't eligible for the 60days automatically after you meet that threshold. was the rep just blowing smoke or is it true. another words i purchased my set through bb do i have the 60day return now or was it still just the 15days, and my box sitting in my garage is taking up wasted space.

Unfortunately it seems the overall screen brightness fluctuations are still present in the 3D material I tested (intro to Prometheus). Disappointing.

But I'm optimistic we may see a fix for this as Hockey, which was the torture test for 2D brightness pops, has absolutely no pops. I'm watching exactly the same material from my DVR that has caused pops (Yale vs UMASS-Lowell) even with each prior FW release near the goal on fast pans and there are none whatsoever.

these favourable reviews have inspired me to search for the firmware again. guess i'm a little slow, though I had a 'plasma' tv, didn't realize '3D' was a type of television. anyway, downloading the fw now, will update later.

I wonder though, did they make the whites not as bright to eliminate the pops?

Just updated mine to 1103... did the same thing " Optimizing system...do not turn off tv..." only thing i had to do was reset my ethernet connection but the settings stayed the same. Not seeing the brightness pops as of yet gonna try some other content to test it out further...any suggestions???

I've already had my backlight and brightness set very low. that didn't fix the pops, so even if that's a side effect of the fix, it's not something that simple. personally, I thought the fix would just be to not have the picture jump in brightness at all. whatever it's 'brightest' level is with a full white screen should be what it's limited to. I don't need the white areas getting brighter when more dark content enters the image anyway
