Anyone else experiencing moire pattern or aliasing on the F8500 on white outlines? I've just recently started to notice this and not sure if it's been there all along. Images aren't solid in some motion, and white lines or outlines show some flicker and can be distracting. Is this normal?

Ive noticed some aliasing since updating to 1114. Faces seem to show slight dithering now also. Picture and movement was better before the update, IMO.

Yes, but it's the first one the wife offered to help pay for!
Delivery for Wednesday got changed to Saturday, Nov 16 due to my thinking the 15th was on Wednesday, re the MC cut off date.
Picked up a sell off Halite - will probably put it on my 55LHX, and put the old Darbee on the wife's 55LHX - the PN64F8500, I doubt needs one?

I have to agree. I found the picture much better before this upgrade. Hopefully Samsung can release another update to fix this one soon. Is there any way to install an older firmware version, like downloading one off the website and installing it with a USB stick. I've found the overall picture quality worse with 1114.

Not that I know of. I was able to make the picture somewhat better though by turning digital clean view and mpeg noise filter to high.

When I get my set. I guess I'd better leave the FW updating Off?

Current FW Update on the Samsung Website: 1111.4 Dated 2013.09.02 647Meg (I assume there may be a difference in the US versus Canadian FW due to the Apps)

1.This firmware is for TV Model(s): PDP F8500
2.The version is 1111.4
3.This firmware update will improve the following:

- Soves swipe motion could not move the picture to next picture.

- Solves Network Connection issue with Wireless router.

- Solves Brightness Popping issue.

- Improves picture quality.

- Supports more MSO in OnTV feature.

- Enhances Voice Recognition feature.

It depends on what you mean by OLED like. If you mean that it has plasma quality blacks (though not the absolute lowest blacks, or as dark as true OLED blacks) AND can also produce bright whites and not the typical dimmer plasma whites, then yes, the F8500 can produce quite an impressive image.

A friend of mine was out comparing the Panasonic VTs and the F8500s and found he liked the 8500s Better. Then he saw the OLED - as far as he was concerned, the OLED blew both the Panasonic and Samsung away - but, unfortunately, so did the price.
From across the store he could still read text on the screen on the OLED, but not the Panasonic, nor Samsung. Since the Samsung is in the more affordable range, he's thinking of getting the PN64F8500 as being his Best Choice - come 2015/16 this may change.
Question - Does this set have a Service Menu, and if so is there a Code for it?
On all my LGs excepting the 9500, adjusting to a proper Greyscale and CMS resulted in a 2 Point that was right on, and no adjusting of the 2 Point was needed. The 9500, a couple of clicks were all that were needed. Will check this out on the Samsung.
All my LGs had Dual settings on each HDMI Input - one set for Video Input and one set for Computer Input. (Note some Computers, when connected to the TV, were seen as Video Inputs.) Neutralizing the Computer Input settings gave a more stabilized Video setting. Will also check this out on the Samsung when it arrives Saturday.
On reading through the CNN settings, it appears they went more with the 2 Point setup, and, because of issues with the 10 Point, left it turned Off. Would be interesting if they'd left the 2 Point with Zeroes, if the Greyscale would now be without the issues and only use it for the Calibration.

Chad and Buzz where measuring a max luminance of like 128 on the OLED ( That is super bight ) and the black levels are 3 times better than the Pioneer Kuro. ( That is super dark )

Maybe they meant they are similar because they both consume electricity biggrin.gif

^The Kuro is the only plasma (and only the 50" monitors at that) which can reach full-array backlit LED panel black levels. biggrin.gif Of course, it requires a special sauce calibration ($$$).

Hi again! Still have my 55LHX and loving it, but need a larger set....do you think the 64f8500 will be a good choice and retire the LHX to the bedroom?

LG 55LHX versus PN64F8500 - coming up!
The LG 55LHX Service Menu White Balances are way out of whack - recalibrated Cool, Medium and Warm to Warm settings, Computer Input Settings Neutralized, all Modes and Inputs Neutralized except for the Input my Radiance XE-3D or iScan Duo feeds into. 2/10 Point and CMS left at Zeroes. (Using Expert 1) Only Backlight, Contrast , Brightness, Sharpness and Colour actually Calibrated on the TV, the rest are AutoCaled with Calman working with the Radiance XE-3D. Finished 3 X through - 2 Point Dead on - No changes needed. Will look as to whether this will also work on the PN64F8500 - It will only have an iScan Duo to feed it. (To start?)
One problem - my stand is 48", the Samsung 60" - is it OK to let overhand 6" on each end?

I do....I like browne am waiting for oled to settle in. meanwhile the 8500 is a very worthy contender/hold over panel until then.

FOUND!

https://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/notice/remote/index.jsp

Don't know whether this was posted or not.
Also on the Samsung Website, Register for an additional 3 Months of Warranty.

Noticed the Offer is only in the US, have put in a request from Samsung of Canada.

Had to order the AA59-00748C Remote from the US - no listings anywhere in Canada, including Samsung of Canada.
Samsung of Canada gives you a pat on the back for your purchase and registering - no freebies.

I have to say it again, this tv blows me away every time I turn it on. I'm on day 2 , its set on movie mode with no pic setting tweaks. Out of the box calibration is so beautiful to the point that I'm debating not having it calibrated, and the last 4 sets I owned I had them professionally calibrated.

I think I read somewhere that 10 days ago, Panasonic decided to quit making plasma tvs.  I wonder if other manufactures will follow this lead?

Eventually PDP will be phased out by everyone. I have read on that other forum that Samsung will be producing plasmas in 2014 though. Don't know if that's accurate but I tend to believe the source.

somebody posted on here not too long ago that Samsung confirmed a 'g' line of plasmas for 2014. the question is how much longer will they make plasmas if there's no other competition in that market segment. it might help, it might hurt. 100% of plasma buyers might be enough to support a couple of models with minor r&d, but i'm sure no manufacture will continue to make plasmas if they feel it's only competing with their led or oled divisions. why make 15 models to sell to a million ppl if you can make 10 models and still sell to a million ppl?

Has anyone else upgrade to firmware version 1114 and noticed a huge downgrade in picture quality?

My picture quality has got substantially worse since this upgrade. Colors are less vibrant and accurate now, there is quite a bit of bad aliasing in the picture, faces seem softer, overall general HD programming doesn't look any better than SD now, and this is on all sources. Blu rays don't look nearly as good anymore either, and this is all since upgrading to the new firmware. Any others experiencing this?
