The 8g kuro measured at 0.004 fl...while 9g measured lower than 0.001 fl (depending on model and tweaks). Link for reference: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1250816/black-level-measurements-of-recent-lcds-and-plasmas-enjoy

Too soon to say based on just eyeballing it, though from the first owner's satisfaction, my speculation is that it may be quite close. The 9G comparisons will be even more revealing/telling.

I dont think anyone expects "great audio" as long as it dosent sound like a tin can....Poor is a realative term as well all TV speakers sound "poor" when compared to an actual home theater set up, even some of the bad ones.....If they sound "normal" and voices are clear then thats the most you can ask for really...

Would also love to hear about the F8500's 3d performance, specifically how it stacks up versus their 2012 lcd 3d performance (which was excellent).

What's the rated power useage of the F8500 series? I don't see it listed in the manual available for download from samsung.

I don't know, but I notice in the VE product guide the f8500s (all sizes) are not energy star compliant. The lower models are.

Smurfmlb: how is the sharpness? Do you watch nature / science / travel programs? I like the crystal clarity and sharpness that the good LCDs have with that kind of programming. Hope this set have a lot of that.

In 'Movie' mode the default cell light is 20, that would eliminate any chance of energy star compliance.biggrin.gif

The lower models are energy star compliant because the cell light is at 10 or lower.eek.gif

When testing for buzzing, sit directly in the center in front of the set and turn your head so your ear faces the screen. Try with both ears. Make sure audio is muted. Previous models of Samsung plasma had this directional buzz that could only be heard from this position. You could hear it even 15ft from the set. If you were sitting off to the sides it was much less noticeable. Thanks for all your feedback so far.

From what I have read elsewhere the buzz is suppose to be gone. Considering the excellent picture quality this looks like a great display, and the price for the smallest one is definitely a plus. Will look forward to hearing how everyone likes it.

That's really odd. I can't recall seeing that viewing angle limitation on plasmas. I guess if it's only up close, it's not too bad...except for kids that like to hang out close and low.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but... does the F8500 support Amazon Instant Video? Either out-of-box, or via app store download?

Otherwise AIV is limited to 2010 & 2012 models. I didn't use on my C8000 til recently, but now I use it all the time. Hope the Samsung/Amazon frenemies will do the right thing by consumers.

How is the ABL? For example at end of commercials there is usually a title card showing the product logo on an all white background. Does the white background look pretty white or kind of gray?

Yup. That's what I'm waiting to hear about too. Hopefully the ABL on this unit is much less aggressive than it is on prior plasmas.

That looks like the top-bottom louver effect of the screens black filter. If so, I obsessed over this becoming a problem with my C8000 pre-purchase, but it was never an issue with any of my standing, sitting, lying-down viewing angles the past 2+ years.

It has this right out of the box, plus the usual suspects (netflix, hulu, etc,etc..,)... just recently got into AIV, and I like it, has max and ruby, and little bill which my kids love and u can't find on netflix for kids..

Thanks dr0z77!! Glad to hear as my current C6900 BD player offers no AIV support, so would have to replace the player too.

Well color me utterly blown away.
I just saw one. The television is simply unreal. (I think beyond either the pioneer elites and sharp elites)
Amazing, with all the talk of 4k this year and oled, this masterpiece of a television completely slipped under the radar.

I wish CNN's Erin Burnett would mention it rather than endlessly talking about the Samsung Galaxy!rolleyes.gif

Sound is really cheap sounding. My Pioneer VSX-30 just overheated and stopped working on me so I am now using the built in speakers. Compared to the speakers that came with my 8g Kuro these are horrible. Now I am on the hunt for a decent receiver. I was in the process of figuring out why my ARC wasn't working. It was because my receiver didn't have it. You would think an Elite receiver would have it. I didn't even think twice. The TV speakers work is all I can say about them but not worth having them If you ask me.

The last Samsung E8000 plasma suffered from brightness fluctuations. Do you notice anything like that on this model?

If this is on movie mode and it is that bright then how is it on standard mode. I guess if I will be buying a plasma it will be this TV.
It fixes one of Plasma's drawbacks which is brightness. I can live with IR , even though I heard that Samsung TVs are more resistant to it than others.

Very excited.
Thank you again for all your efforts and for sharing with us these pics and info.
Congratulations again for a truly awesome TV

No fluctuations that I saw

If I put my ear practically to the screen I can barely hear it but its mostly coming from the back. My hearing is pretty sensitive too.
If you have this in a smaller bedroom you might here it more than I do in a living room.
Not sure how it would bounce of the wall If its mounted real close to it either Mine is off the wall like a foot or so.
