I am having a problem with my TH42pz80u.

The hdmi2 input flickers for a moment and usually will show the picture briefly before it changes itself to the hdmi3 input.

No button is being pressed to make it change and the hdmi cable is fine. It only started doing this recently.

Any idea what the issue is and what a solution could be?

Have you contacted Panasonic support? Sounds a component failure on the board. You also should probably ask this question in a Panasonic forum because you're more apt to find someone who may have had a similar issue.

Apparently the solution is to unplug the hdmi cable in hdmi3 when I want to use hdmi2.

It works normally when there is no cable in 3. Plug one in 3 and it changes to it immediately. Change it back to 2 it will flicker for a second and change back to 3.

Hdmi1 does not do this and works normally regardless of either cable in 2 or 3.

Sounds fishy. The HDMI inputs should be separate and discrete and only active when you select it. They shouldn't switch by themselves, at least mine don't.
