I am kind of surprised no one has done a real review on this TV yet. For the price, size and features I would think their would be a large market for it.

thats what i thought as well but for a little over $800 For 51F5500 you can't really go wrong. i know that this does not have the same Pro panel as my 60E8000 but for such a small room i'm putting it in it's going to be alot better and it's replacing my PN50C7000 which still has a great picture

My main setup
PN60E8000 Plus evolution 2013Kit + Directv genie + Panasonic 3D blu-ray player + Onkyo TX-NR 818 9.2 Bic F12 subs Onkyo M-5010 2-Channel Amplifier for wides.
MY 10' X 15' DEN
PN51F5500 + Directv Genie + Panasonic 3D blu-ray player + Onkyo TX-NR 737 5.2.2

Im still thinking of going with this despite exchanging it for the st60. Video Only seems to be taking a while to get the 60 inch st60 in, it's 300 more, the Samsungs dont have a reputation for line bleeding or contouring. I'm thinking I could give up some black detail for that. Coming from a 3-4 year old LG led I'm sure the Samsung would be a huge jump in pq. Plus I hear Samsung's handle motion a bit better.

Damn I hate being so indecisive. If only there were actual pro reviews.

I too am waiting for some in depth reviews. The F5500 was the first TV (of the two) released here and yet almost every thing I read sounds like a brochure description.

I too am in the boat of deciding between these two. Really wish some reviews would come out for the 5500. We have a Samsung d450 in the bedroom and its solid. I find it hard to believe the F5500 can beat out the ST60 picture quality wise but with the input lag on the ST60 even a fairly close comparison would get me to go to the Samsung.

I'm getting delivery on the PN51F5500 I'm replacing my C7000 the reasoning in getting the 5500 is one budget and second I have a 60E8000 and I'm real happy with picture quality so blacks and color are very good. And the 5500 will out perform The C7000

Hey, was curious if that was your review over at Amazon on the F5500. If it was, I was kind of surprised you would rate it 5 stars after reading what you wrote.....Sounds like a decent TV at a decent price but did not sound like a 5 star review.

I got my 51F5500 it doesn't perform like my 60E8000 but it is not that bad for a little over $800 it's a great deal I've only had it one day and I'll give my impression after I tweek some of the settings

That was me I like to start at five stars only because of how cheap this thing is it's a great bargain it's not a good choice for a bright room like I said when I posted that review I only had it for two hours and that's not enough time to truly evaluate it so I didn't want to trash it before I give it a good test but it doesn't Buzz haven't checked for brightness pops. I will most likely deduct a star or leave it. I don't like the smart hub so much but that not a fault of the TV I'm just use to my 60E8000

That's why I would never review something so soon (no matter how many times Amazon asks me to). I would want to give it at least a few weeks or month to really let impressions sink in and see what standout issues rise to the top of my awareness.

my NADs are new

totally agree but there was and still is very little about this TV i thought i would start somewhere but i will tell you that there is no buzz and after watching a few hours of baseball i see no signs of IR. IR was my big worry because on my 50C7000 it was bad

CNET has a review of the 8500 Plasma up now. Not the same, but it's something.

thanks i saw that.
you can't in my opinion in any way compare this F5500 to the F8500. I have the PN51F5500 in my Den and PN60E8000 in the Livingroom when i compare the F to the E its like night and day the E has more adjustable settings.

The F is just a VERY GOOD LOW BUDGET TV with only 3 picture modes, DYNAMIC, STANDARD, and MOVIE, i think you would get BD WISE if your using a samsung blu-ray play connected via HDMI.

The Color Space submenu: Color Space: is either auto or native, and there is no 10p White Balance submenu: .

It DOES have a White balance submenu and everything defaults at 25 and you can adjust them. it has Black optimizer. so for fine tuning of this TV set are limited but the out of the box settings are not too bad and i must say for the money it's a great deal.

Most likely you will ahve to go with the F8500, the F5500 will in msot cases be a step "down" in model number and quality...

In my opinion the f8500 would be a better choice I have the f5500 and a 60E8000 and my opinion is that the E8000 has a better PQ but if money is no object then my choice would be the F8500 don't get me wrong the F5500 is a good TV.
If I'm not mistaken the E7000 and E8000 have about the same in PQ.

I posted my thoughts in a couple of other threads, but I set up my brother's 51" F5300 a few weeks ago. Nice brightness, nice video processing with cable sources, really good color out of the box (in Movie mode and Warm 1), and very good detail/natural sharpness. The blacks were fair; not quite as good as my 65ST30 which measures around .005. I would not call the blacks poor, but not really good either. Now, the F5500 is 3D and maybe it has better blacks, not sure. All in all, the F5300 (and maybe F5500) is an *entry level* plasma - and a very good one for the money. My brother is very happy with it - I persuaded him to spend a bit more money instead of buying a bottom Insignia LED. eek.gif

Going from an 60E7000 probably means you would need to go to an F8500 or fairly equivalent display. The ST60 would probably be an upgrade in terms of blacks and contrast, but might be lacking in other areas (3D, video processing, etc.)

From what I have gathered, this is a fair summary. Except some think the ST60 does 3D well when motion smoothing is turned on. I have a c8000 which still looks good, not counting the pink banding problem that afflicts it (though I have to crush its blacks to get them to be black enough).

The F8500 is very bright and very expensive. I've ordered an ST60.

i gave you my opinion earlier but i'm torn now just had a firmware update.
1.This firmware is for TV Model(s): LED F5500/F6300/F6350/F6400/F6800/F7050/F7010, PDP F5500
2.The version is 1102.1
3.This firmware update will improve the following:

- Improves picture quality.

- Resolves compatibility issue with Fitness Game Bike

i must say that the improvement in picture quality has solidified my choice in buying this PN51F5500 i know there will be more updates.
so the choice is yours which one to buy 60F5500 OR 60F8500 if you can afford the price i would still buy the F8500 if i had not just got the E8000 last May i would have gone with the 8500.
so here i am I have a PN60E8000 and a PN51F5500
PRBR likes this.

the biggest difference is picture quality when i first got this tv it was a little troubling that i couldn't get the right combination with blacks and color flesh tones seemed to orange or too red and it was starting to trouble me. i was watching a baseball game last night (wednesday) couldn't get it to look natural even reset all the modes and it just wasn't right. tonight i watched washington and the braves after the firmware update the black players didn't have a greenish tint anymore they looked normal the white players don't look orange or bright red i maybe over stating it a bit but now it's very pleasing. blacks are nice and black flesh tones are more normal so i hope i explained it so you'll understand.
