If I hook my ps3 via HDMI to my vt60 then the tv to my audio reciever via Optical cable I don't get true 5.1 surround... Only if I hook up my ps3 directly via optical... Obviosly same thing happens with my laptop ...

Any ideas or tips on how to get the full 5.1 signal going through the tv??? Thanks!

sorry, I believe this tv does not allow you to do that (as with the great majority of tv's out there). I have heard of some that do, but I don't know any of them by name.

I was frustrated in a similar situation a few years ago. I bit the bullet and bought a new receiver. I will say there was one hidden benefit of the new receiver - everything sounded so much better afterwards smile.gif

Thanks for posting your calibration comments. I've added a link to your post in the flat panel (post number two) lists that are linked in the signature area at the bottom of my post.

If you have further comments to make about your audio or video calibration, it would be great if you could use the edit command to add them to your original post. Enjoy. smile.gif

Well, I just finished a marathon session getting caught up on the S/ST/VT60 threads and mined a wealth of information. I feel like I was transported in a time machine three times as well!

My wife and I are movie enthusiasts who in our former lives enjoyed the pursuit of the best quality picture and sound that our circumstances would allow. We are now rolling stone expats and the last few years we have watched most of our content on 1080p computers with blu-ray capability but 18" is not 70" like we used to enjoy.

We now have a semi-settled lifestyle that would allow us to upgrade to a 50 or 55" TV. 55" would be the very largest we could cope with. The vast majority of our viewing will take place at night in a reasonably dark room and consist of blu-ray movies/series and 1080p rips from a 2TB hard drive. I also have a laptop with HDMI out that I can send to the TV for some limited downloads of TV shows. We want the best & biggest display that our current lifestyle can support so that's why I am here.

I have narrowed the choices to the ST60 or VT60. We will still occasionally have to pick up and move and the TV will be by far be our largest possession. (We have our priorities straight).

I wanted to see if someone could verify the weight of a 55" VT60. When I look at the Panasonic website or at the Panny data sheet on the Amazon website it has "TBD" for the weight with the stand. It does list the weight as 85 pounds in the Amazon spec section but that is 17 pounds more than the 55" ST60 which does have it's weight listed on the Panasonic website. Weight is critical in our situation.

Another issue important to us is the PQ OOB with the ST vs VT since I doubt calibration will be an option where I live. If anyone has experienced both displays and would be kind enough to offer feedback in this regard I would be grateful. I understand that the VT has more calibration options and better potential PQ but are the sets reasonably similar OOB?

I have read mixed reviews about the web browser. The functionality seems problematic but it appears as though the VT supports flash and blue tooth connectivity for a wireless keyboard/mouse. I would be interested in using the internet function to download and display content from Comedy Central. Has anyone had experience with that? The majority of the streaming apps offered with the TV are of limited use here because of licensing issues but I have no problems accessing Comedy Central.

My wife and I are both excited at the prospect of watching our large blu-ray collection on one of these displays. We have dragged the discs all over the countryside (sans the cases) in anticipation of the day when they could be viewed again on a worthy screen! Even if sanity wins out and we end up with a 50" (which unfortunately precludes the VT) it will seem like heaven after our years in HT exile.

Many thanks for any help or advice!

If you want oob PQ, then imo you have to pick the vt60 since its THX modes have been measured to have such impressive oob accuracy.

Hi,

Im interested in getting a VT60 60inch model and over here in Canada the prices are completely insane. Best Buy sells it for $3300 when there's a site called Abe's of Maine that has the exact same TV for $1899 which is where I am interested in purchasing it from. I wanted to ask you guys how I would go about purchasing a TV from the US that doesn't ship directly to Canada. Is there such thing as a third party reliable service that can get the package then ship it to you themselves over the border? If not how would I go about this?

Thanks! smile.gif

Are you not close to the border? You could just go and get one across the border if you are close enough.

THX modes are far still from reference, but 'closer' than the others OOB (you shouldn't include Custom or the PRO modes which are meant for a full proper calibration). These modes still need to be properly calibrated to get the most out of them (keyword, properly).

They will credit your card on the spot. I returned an S64 there before I bought the VT from Amazon (would probably have bout from Costco if they carried it). Just be sure to have the remote, etc.

Netflix app picture setting no matter what I select does not change. All other apps I'm able to change picture settings. It's odd if I switch it to vivid for example in Hulu it will be vivid in Netflix but I can not change it to cinema while in Netflex. I can select cinema but it visibly stays vivid. If I want it to be cinema I need to change it in another app first and then it will be that in Netflix. Only Netflix is having issues. It's clearly software related considering Netflix doesn't use its own processor. Does anyone else have these issues? I believe it was fine before the last update.

Thank you for the reassurance...always nice to hear about others experiences with smooth returns.

I absolutely live the 50S64 especially for gaming it has been such a great item to have. So I'm actually thinking about keeping it and with the VT60 at such a low price with Pauls it doesn't seem like a bad idea since I flat out paid cash for the s64. But that's a maybe at this point because 700$ is a lot of money right now...and there's really no point of having two since I still have the KURO at home as well.

Anyway sorry for getting off topic

The vender you are talking about is in chapter 11, just so you know.
--You can find another vender who ship into Canada, ( like our self's ) or save yourself money and pick up just across the border in the US.

Hey guys, I'm receiving my VT60 today and wanting to make sure everything goes smoothly and quickly. The freight company is suppose to get the TV inside and setup for me at which time I hope to get the TV turned on and checked out before signing anything. This will be my first Panasonic/smart TV so I was hoping someone could give me a set of quick and easy instructions on how to pop open the D-Nice 'break in' slides so that I can check out the screen and not hold up the movers for very long. BTW, any other tips or pointers that I should know about before signing for delivery? Appreciate the help.

Use a flashlight to inspect the screen thoroughly while its Off before you do anything. Have you downloaded the slides to a USB and gone over the instructions on how to use them?
