Thank you Chad. Speaking for myself it feels like a bit of a let down. Yes, black levels are superb but it -- I don't know -- I guess I was expecting it to crush the VT50 without any steps backwards.

KInd of hard to crush something that is close to perfect, you can make incremental improvements but we are at the point of diminishing returns imo

My only concern would be this finicky calibration issue, but it sounds as if it's probably not perceptible with real viewing.

However, I just wonder what happens over the course of 2-3 months.....5-6 months after calibration.....does it shift radically enough to show viewing issues? I am not talking normal drift, but specifically related to this issue. Just a thought.

Chad, any thoughts?

Hey guys 2 quick questions. I've got my optical cable plugged in to the TV directly from my soundbar but I'm not getting any sound from the sound bar how do I get back to work? Also I'm using the media player to run slides but the Slides are changing how do I set the slides to change?

That's the thought I had as well. I thought since in person it made the 8500 look washed out an that the vt50 and 8500 were on par that it would translate to making the vt50 look washed out as well.

For the soundbar does it only accept PCM input or is there a toggle for that ? The optical will only be 2 channel except for ota sources.

Just from a calibration chart standpoint comparing my VT50 cal that chad did they are nearly identical, I believe the contrast ratio measures higher on the VT60 a result of the deeper blacks.

Settings can make all teh difference wink.gif we ahve had a few people report the same as you mo, turns out there was an ECO setting set wrong on the F8500......

I think what we are seeing this year is that we are reaching teh max potential of what these companies can do for the amount of money they are willing to spend on creating these sets.....The VT50 was a geat TV, year to year gains are not usually as impressive as if you skip a generation...So in this case the 2013 would be a large jump form the x30s, but many might not see enough of an improvement form the x50 unless you are coming from the lower end (ST50) and below).....

Won't speculate on the ZT that is a different animal but I think the biggest leap this year was in the ST series, the addition of the extra picture controls allows that set to be dialed in much closer to the VT series, the 60 appears to be a more of an incremental improvement. Regardless still all great sets.

Im not sure the ZT60 will "crush" the VT50 either, for sure on MLL, but I think those with the VT50 may find out they already have a great set and hold off upgrading (wait did I just say that on AVS biggrin.gif )

agreed smile.gif with how well they updated the ST series I think they may ahve taken a small chunk of VT60 future buyers....Either way you go though you wont lose....

For me not even a consideration only had my VT for a month and a half and I will be riding this puppy till it dies. I think the bonding process will make a difference in image clarity for the zt but we shall see.

Based on the other published reviews (Reference Ratings), I was expecting more from the VT60. I was going to order a ZT tomorrow. Maybe I will hold off for a bit. I have a 65VT50.

Chunon is right, it's hard tocrush something that is close to perfect. The VT50 was technically close to perfect- every imaginable color, white balance, or gamma measurement could be made nearly flawless. The 60 falls just a tiny bit short of that, but I have my doubts that it is visible. However, the blacks on the 60 are visibly superior, so I do think it's an advance.
