After calibrating gray scale to BT.1886, I calibrated by adjusting the CMS, Color, and Flesh Tone controls, making adjustments while watching the SKIN patch dE's (these are now all below dE 1.1) and the 75/75 primaries, mainly.

Bright reds remain a problem, not too concerned about it but I wonder how Zoyd got all dE's under 2?
I struggle with Red too at 100%. My average dE is 1.48 with Red sitting at 2.9

Attached are the patches that were dE 1.9 and above on my TV. It would be interesting to see other's results. Drop the attached patch file colors.txt into the HCFR main directory, rename it to colors.csv, and run the patch set using the USER patch setting in Advanced Settings...Reference. Here are my dE results for these:

On the 100/100 run I'm getting all under 2 except red which is 3.2 or 3.4, I forget. In the 75/75 run I'm getting all under 2. I'm not that concerned about the bright red, the SKIN patches are important though and they are all under dE 1.1

Sounds almost the same as mine. I will do these patches when I can, probably will not have time until Saturday though. I am unfamiliar with this, can you fill me in on what the goal is and how you are making updates to the CMS based on the numbers?

For reference, here is what I have done.
-Calibarated movie mode for day viewing with max ftL of 38 (this is the highest I can get, which seems odd).
-Movie mode has a bt. 1886 with effective gamma of 2.25 @ 100% - Average dE = .21 with max of .66
-Calibrated cal-night for night viewing with max ftL of 35
-Cal-night has a bt. 1886 set to effective gamma 0 @ 100% - Average dE = .17 with max of .25
-Colors Average dE of 1.48 max 2.92

I am kinda stuck as I do not know what to do next besides actually watch tv...

Watching TV is a good idea

You should be able to get higher than 38ftL. I can easily get 45. You can adjust the 2 pt White Balance Gain controls to achieve this. The procedure is:

  1. Select target gamma
  2. Turn off 10 pt WB
  3. Run measures on 100% white while increasing the 2 pt RGB Gain controls until you hit your target peak white value, with RGB balanced
  4. Do not adjust the RGB Gain controls again after step three, as your black level and target white level are now established, which sets your target gamma curve.
  5. Run a gamma sweep and adjust the 2 pt RGB Offset controls to align as much as possible with the target gamma
  6. Turn on 10 pt WB
  7. Adjust the highest 10 pt control (number 10) to keep the same or similar peak white setting as you targeted in step 3, with RGB balanced.
  8. Adjust the other 10 pt controls to match the target gamma curve. Don't touch number 10 again except if a minor tweak is needed, for example to tweak RGB balance.

As for the color checker patterns, you can use them as follows:

In HCFR if you go to Advanced...Preferences...References you can select different Color Checker Patterns. One is called SKIN and once you have done that, you can measure it with Measures...Saturations...ColorChecker.

You can use the results of the SKIN color sweep to determine whether any given control adjustment has a positive or negative effect on reproducing skin tones. For example:

  1. Run a SKIN sweep and note the stats for avg dE and max dE
  2. Bump Color by one (eg to 54)
  3. Run another sweep to see if the stats improve.
  4. If better, bump color by one and repeat steps 3 and 4 until stats get worse, then reduce Color by 1 and stop.
  5. If stats get worse, lower Color by two (eg to 52).
  6. Run another sweep and check the stats
  7. If stats improve, lower color by one and repeat steps 6 and 7 until stats get worse, then increase Color by 1 and stop.
  8. If stats get worse, put color back where it was originally (eg 54)

Do the same for Flesh Tone. I also run a SKIN tone sweep after changing the RGB levels for a given color in the CMS, especially Red and Yellow since they affect skin tones the most. If SKIN stats gets noticeably worse, I back off the change in the CMS.

Hey Guys! Could anyone tell me if there have been any changes on input lag with game mode and with pc mode with recent updates. Last I checked Game mode was the best option. Has anything changed ? Haven´t been on for a while. Thanks!

I'll re-post what I replied to you on the Owner's forum 2 days ago. Maybe you're looking for a different answer/perspective?

No claims have been made with regards to input lag being reduced/modified on any firmware updates. I believe PC mode still has a slight edge over Game mode for less lag, but many gamers can't even notice the difference.

I'm still pretty new to these forums, so if this has been covered in the last... 133 pages, forgive me.

But I wanted to know if anyone has posted a good list of settings for Game mode specifically. Since getting this TV, I've just been using my Movie calibrations when going into Game mode, and it's been good enough, but I definitely wouldn't mind tightening up the calibration for Game mode specifically if such settings exist.

Would I be better off just finding a set of Standard calibration settings and use those for Game mode??

Hi, I occasionally read through this thread and try out the new ideas I see here on my PS43F4900, anyway, I got an average of 1.11, max of 2.77 (in the reds) and worst 10% was 2.01

I went for a BT1886 2.2 effective for Movie (CS on, YUV), and 2.4 for Standard (CS Off, RGB).

If anyone else wants to try Zoyd's 1000 color patch set, drop the attached file colors.txt into the HCFR main directory, rename it to colors.csv, and run the patch set using the USER patch setting in Advanced Settings...Preferences...References.

I will on Saturday, looking forward to it.

You mentioned before adding plus 1 or minus 1 to color until the results start getting worse...wouldnt you want to go back and readjust the cms every time you change the color? So for example, I have my color right now at 60. If I add 1 and results get better, I should then go back to cms and run a constant measure and adjust.

It scares me that we look forward to this stuff.

You have to redo the CMS when you change the Color setting.

Interesting. I took some readings of my warranty replacement panel. Yesterday at MRT 2 black level was consistently 0.005 ftL. Today at MRT 18 in measures 0.004 ftL. I expected break in might change it but not this quickly.

I also did a quick and dirty two point only grayscale calibration and while it has the usual crazy error spike at 90 IRE I'd almost swear it looks as good if not better than my old panel looked with its custom ten point adjustments. I'm definitely going with less is more in ten point when I get enough hours on it to dial this one in.

Scares the wife too. Looks like I will have some time tonight to do this. Dumb question, but the main directory would be just the HCFR Calibration folder?

Will report back later my results. I am interested since right now, I have my color set to 60 as that was the only way to get the saturation to a point where I was sub 3 at 100%. Maybe I missed something, but what images do I run? Iv only done DVD images.
