It should be available. Are you playing your source when in the menu?

Thanks for the numbers. Please list TV, meter, software (Calman Basic?) and luminance fL your calibration get's you to.

Also, dynamic contrast is enabled. Please explain why. smile.gif

I calibrate without dynamic on then turn it on after calibration is complete, I like to picture better with it on its just a personal preference. I used Calman control 5 40 FL was the goal the meter was a C3

Something I was thinking about through this TV:

Can I ask anyone in the know;

Scenario
It appears the F8500 works best in a lag sense when the HDMI input is renamed to "PC"
Once in this mode, many things are disabled. The only options in the menu are:
  • Cell Light
  • Contrast
  • Brightness
  • Sharpness
  • Color Tone (Default: Standard)
  • White Balance

Considering the requirement is to cal for gaming which is not Rec709, would you calibrate to sRGB?
Is it possible (or even worth while) calibrating WB using 0-255 range? If so, how would one setup the cal software?
Any other tips for calibrating the other menu options would be fantastic smile.gif

These are interesting and thanks for posting. I'm wondering if Kevin is the first calibrator to leave the color space on Auto? It seems all the other reports I recall had the color space set to 'Custom'. I'm also curious what the default Cal Day and Cal Night modes look like. Generally each mode has its own 'look', even uncalibrated Cal modes....at least on displays I've owned.

We watched the movie Oz, Great and Powerful last night. Although the movie was average, the PQ was stunning under CAL-NIGHT. The Bluray might have been the best PQ, I've ever seen.

Our 64" Samsung was also calibrated by Kevin Miller and I'm awaiting the calibration report.

Couldn't agree more Dave. I just posted that I watched a brief bit of the hockey playoff game on NBC last night. I've never seen whites that were so pure and totally unimpaired by DSE or ABL. As the camera panned, there was no evidence, none, of DSE. As great as my picture is on my Sharp Elite, even it shows some tell-tale signs of DSE during a demanding scene like a pan during a hockey game.

I was really mesmerized by how good it looked.

Dave, did Kevin also use 'Auto' for your color space during calibration? Looking and trying the settings that ola posted, it shows you how individual each display really is. I knew off the bat that those settings would make my picture a bit too red. When I tried it, that's just what I got, a picture that was too red.

You should add IMO wink.gif as Relax is usually "off" as far as accuracy. The only wrong setting is the one you don't like though.

Dave, did Kevin mention anything about Auto vs Custom and why he prefers Auto? I've always trusted Kevin;s work, so there must be some good reason he chooses it.

Ken: I'm waiting for VE to send me the calibration report once Kevin provides it to VE. My 64" F8500 Samsung was calibrated at the VE store before delivering to my home, so I wasn't able to ask any questions during his calibration.

So are you happy with your best buy calibration? Still not sure if I should take the free one for being a silver member. Most people say they do more harm than good, and that its rare that they actually do a good job.

Fired up Avatar on my Sony 590 {connected directly to TV] to watch 3d and it says its not detecting a 3d capable tv.

Im guessing the TV doesnt auto detect the 3d signal. You have to manually put it in 3d mode.

Was on the phone for an hour with Sony tech and what finally fixed the problem was unplugging the tv for 30 secs while leaving the player on.I guess they resynced themselves.

Is Cal Day / Cal Night just used for broadcast tv in their respective times and movie mode for blurays?Or am I looking at this wrong?
