I have been looking for a great TV for gaming on my Xbox 360. From what most people have told me Plasma is that way to go as long as you do not have a lot of natural light.

I found this 50" LG at Best Buy on sale for $550. Is this a good deal? If not are there any other TVs you guys would reccomend?

I also found a 46" Sony 240Hz LED TV (46HX800) at Best Buy for $550. I know this is an older model TV but it seems like it is a good deal. I have heard 240Hz LED TVs sometimes have jitters when gaming though so Im not sure.

Let me know what you guys think please.

Panasonic plasmas get good reviews but avoid the new ST60 because supposedly the input lag is bad.

HDTV: Panasonic TC-P50ST50
Speakers: Bowers & Wilkins 685
Receiver: Sony STR-DA80ES
Blu-ray Player: Playstation 3
Power Center: Monster HDP 1800

Is it 2D? If so, and you're only looking for a 2D set, then the S60 is probably more in line with what you want. It's not much more expensive, plus it's new.

Is the LG 720p or 1080p?

"from what most people have told me Plasma is that way to go as long as you have a lot of natural light."

You meant as long as you DON'T have a lot of natural light, right? That 46 in sony isn't a bad deal either.

I'm sorry I meant to provide the link to the TV. It is 1080P and yes I did mean as long as you do not have a lot of natural light. It is a 2D TV but I do not need 3D or apps.

For gaming? No. I just checked the display lag database and it's somewhat high at 56 ms of input lag. You could find TV's in that price range with less. For $150 extra you can get a brand new, 2013 S60 which has much better picture controls and a better over all image.

I would be willing to pay that much if you think it is worth it. Where is this input lag database if you don't mind me asking? Anyone else recommend the S60?

DisplayLag.com has a small database of displays. The S60 isn't on it yet but preliminary tests are looking good, better than the LG you were looking at. S60 had a pretty good review too when it came to the picture quality and has some basic calibration controls like a 2 point grayscale white balance and such.

I've been looking at reviews and they seem good, I just want to make sure I am paying for a better picture and not the smart apps because I could care less about having a "smart" TV. I just want a great picture for a great price. So you think I should go with a Plasma over the Sony 46" HX800?

The Sony is going on 3 years old now. There aren't a lot of reviews for it. It appears to support Smart apps and 3D. I'm not sure how good either will be considering 3 years is a long time for panel evolution. DisplayLag reports the HX850 to have about 30 to 40 ms of lag so that's most likely on par with the S60. With no real reviews of the Sony, I'd say go with the S60 since the reviews are pretty positive so far especially towards the image quality and the input lag has been shown to be pretty decent.

Thanks for all your help Moonchilde, I really appreciate it.
