Got to see these two again today. If you aren't interested in imaging science and THX type of hoopla, definitely go see these two sets next to each other with your own eyes. The differences are not subtle and you should be able to choose the one that pleases you pretty easily (vt60 and f8500). Flip through the modes and compare the relevant ones.

What I took away from this excellent review was the comment, most 'OLED-like'. To me that says a ton and cuts through all the BS. The ability to achieve superb black levels and unprecedented brightness, certainly accounts for that. He said that while speaking about the other Panasonics (with the exception of the ZT60 which I don't think is going to be radically different).

agreed, in the end, what "you" like the best is all that matters.....The numbers are great to ahve, but if your eyes dont agree, then whats the point?

I don't think anyone was disagreeing with the F8500 is most likely a great TV; just that most would prefer the VT/ZT sets if based on PQ alone (excluding those who need the max amount of brightness without going LCD). However, as is mentioned in the review, the price differences between the sets might make a difference to those looking for the best Value (but then the ST60 would come into play).

Hmm, guess I'm weird. I'm looking for the best PQ, yet I'm still considering the 8500. I'd do so even if bright room viewing were not a consideration. I like the greater apparent sharpness afforded by the 8500 too and I believe the better controlled ABL of that display helps too.

It's not just brightness. :-)

He's probably referring to that 2011 defect that brought the rising black levels. Annoying and a showstopper for those who view in a dark room (I would probably be back in the Sammy camp if I had suffered through one of those wink.gif), for sure, but bursting capacitors is a step above as far as oversight in QC goes.

Not for me for the reasons stated above, but I agree the ST60 is the steal of the year.

. I have one of those from late 2009 and I'm still considering Panasonic. But to me......it still looks as good today as it did when new. I'm sure to someone who really knows their panels it would be most noticeable.

Did I say that? Take it up with the reviewer Sir, not me. Never a lack of sarcasm from Vinnie.

It's amazing how you simply can't say anything pro-Samsung without the usual suspects jumping all over it.

Is it possible to simply accept someone's or some reviewers comment without sniping?

Unreal.

Not with a totally new bonding process on the ZT that's resulting in many rejects.

Well that's why I'm leaning 8500. My eyes agreed with the reviewer's remarks about most 'OLED-like'. The 8500 is a whole lot cheaper than OLED will be and it's available now. :-)

Of course this is still pending the shootout and the ZT60s performance.

No, it speaks to unknowns in terms of longevity of the process. We also have no idea if displays that should have been rejected, weren't. We won't know that for awhile.
