Is this too close for a 65ZT60???

I've always been a bigger is better kinda guy but I'm starting to question it

Yes that's too close. Calculated viewing distance for a 65" is 8.45 '. Based on Digital Digest calculator.

Yeah even at 8.45' a 65" will appear really big let alone 6ft. If he's watching all movies in bluray then I could see it if they are letterboxed titles.

I'd say 50-50 between blu ray and cable tv

No it is not too close.
My head is 6 feet from my Panny 65 in the reclined position and I can see all of the screen quite well.
Works for me.

Depends on your eye vision..

I'm sitting 8' from 65" VT50. It's perfect for me.
My eyes is not that good, but just moving to 6.5', I can see the Plasma dithering.
At 5', the dithering is quite horrible, unwatchable for me.

I also own a 64" D8000 that have 1 stuck pixel. I'm sitting 8' from it too.
At 8', I barely able to see the stuck pixel, only if I focus on it really hard I'm able to see it... barely...
At 6.5', I can see it clearly.
