Specifically, I am leaning towards the Panny ST60/St50 series (depending on the day LOL!) but trying to be open minded in my purchase decision making & not get influenced too much by all the Panny/Kuro legacy love around here.

So am looking to see if there are viable options from Sammy besides the F8500? in the 60" range if it matters any,

Appreciate any feedback.

Samsung seems to have abandoned the mid-range Plasma market. The next step down from the F8500 is the F5500 which seems to be close to the Panasonic S60 series, but with 3D added. They don't have an equitable model to compete with the ST60 series.

It's too bad - their 2010 and 2011 6500 and 7000 Plasmas were very good and it's surprising that they dropped these models for 2013.

.

Since the ST50 is still compared to the ST60 as a viable & cost alternative - is a Sammy E6500/7000 still competitive enough vs. the ST60?

isn't the st60 pretty much like the s60 with 3D added?

either way, i'd agree, the only one worth looking at from Samsung is the 5500. whether or not it's actually 'competition' for the st60 depends on your pricing and preferences I guess.

No. The ST60 offers a number of improvements which make it a worthwhile jump. Namely the Infinite Black Panel pro, an A/R filter, and an extra HDMI input.

No. The ST60 has a different plasma panel that out-performs the one in the S60 resulting in better picture quality. 3D models by nature are brighter and have better processing etc which results in better 2D picture quality than the 2D models have.

I would say the answer is yes and no. The E6500 and E7000 were comparable to the ST50 and given that the ST60 is an improvement over last years ST50, albeit a slight one, I'd lean more toward the ST60. That being said if you can find the E6500 at a very competitive price, bigger size, or etc. that make it very attractive then sure, consider it. Have you seen any of the FPs in question for yourself?

I haven't. I think my eyes & experience are of the mere mortal variety, so I defer to those on here with those better attributes.
My main m.o. is a no anxiety experience & once again that IR demon rears its ugly head.

Based solely on experience here, it tradeoff between Sammy vs. Panny is better IR resistance vs. better PQ respectively.

Obviously this is going to be a matter of opinion, but I would say that the ST60 is right in-line in regards to IR susceptibility, with both E6500 and the E7000. Are the Samsungs a tad better? Possibly, but I wouldn't say its definitive. That being said, I don't think you can wrong with any one of these FP's. I would however throwout the the E7000, because I feel as though the E6500 performs every bit as well without some of the needless features.
