Hey all just took delivery of a new ZT 65" and the first time setup did not come on. So now I am curious if I received a used model. I saw instructions for how to check hours, but when I hold down "Volume -" and press "Info" 3 x nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?

If I remember correctly you have to hold down the volume on the set and not on the remote.

I posted about the blasted band on the right side of the screen but I neglected to post about my experience thus far with my ZT otherwise.

Other than that somewhat minor flaw I’m finding the ZT to be fantastic. D-Nice calibrated and using ISF day/night modes everything I watch seems to look as beautiful or ugly as the source will allow. I also have a VT30 from 2011 and the ZT is definitely a few steps up in performance. Its brighter for one but I also feel that I’m seeing more of everything in everything I watch. More color, more detail, depth and pop. I watched Django Unchained and his blue velvet suit looked great, it had such sheen and color saturation and I know the VT30 didn’t show this as well when I watched it months ago on that set. The ZT is definitely “blacker” too, as expected and between the added brightness, better black level depth and seemingly better color saturation I couldn’t be happier. I also think the “air gapless” design is paying dividends for me as well because there were times that I can remember thinking that the VT30’s image was just a bit blurry or something and not quite as sharp as I would have liked and I think it’s possibly because I have off white walls and the reflection of the TV itself off of the walls was affecting the picture to some degree. The ZT’s image is as sharp as a tack and I think the combo of the aggressive filter and air gapless technology is really giving me the type of PQ I have always wanted from my TV.

This set is a home run in my opinion. Now if only that band will go away completely I’d be a supremely happy owner. On that front, it does seem to be getting less and less apparent but it’s still occasionally present so we’ll see.

Best to the all forum members…

^It's important to remember that despite a few shortcomings this TV really does look great. I take note of how fantastic it looks every time I watch it.

Couldn't agree more. Still loving mine!

Went back and started watching band of brothers again -- fantastic. Life of Pi 2d & 3d look great as does the new Star trek. I find myself watching more and more blu-ray now and do streaming more for quick hit movies I don't really care about.

Never owned a dlp set, never had a chance to see its rainbow effect. But lately I've been seeing rainbowy (really just rgb) stuff on my zt60, so can confirm it's there for me as well. Presumably I'll stop noticing it so much (seems to be more noticable in b&w films or during film credits, both of which are a pretty steady diet for me), but this is one instance where I'd prefer my old sxrd set, bad optical block and all. THX Cinema mode, though switched to the Home Theater settings for the last half hour or so and no difference except the b&w looked a bit more just b&w. (I suppose a bit of it could be my glasses, a new prescription probably wouldn't hurt at this point.)

Are the horribly crushed blacks in the next to last photo a problem with the iPhone or the TV?

No problem with either as far as I know, that's just what that particular scene looked like on the set for the most part, it's a scene from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind on blu ray. The iPhone may have added or took a little something away but there were plenty of other dark scenes with blacks that showed good shadow detail. TV was in ISF night mode which was calibrated by D-Nice, I doubt he'd allow crushed blacks and I've verified the black level with Spears & Munsil's 2nd edition calibration disc.

Probably an exposure problem with the cell phone then. I guess that despite the hype phone cameras still aren't quite there for real photographic tasks. Some of the pics are OK though.

Did they pull the ZT off the stores? I bought mine this week and I've been checking the price everyday in case it got a price drop so I can price match for a refund. Today I noticed that Frys took it off its website. BB and Paul's tv have it as out of stock on their site. Anybody know anything?

I'm sorry I was referring to the 65 inch ZT. I'm not even checking for Amazon sinxe I don't think they'll price match that.

Unrelated but is there a way to check how many hours I've logged into this set?

If you buy from Amazon they will price match up to 14 days.

BB price matches Amazon. How to check your hours has been mentioned many times In this thread so just search for it.

BB website may not always show low price or an in store sale. They had the zt on sale one time (there lowest price I've heard) and the price wasn't online.

Keep an eye on the plasma great found deals section under zt thread.

Anyone else noticing the vertical banding on the right side of the screen? I'm planning on having D-Nice calibrate my set next month and am a bit hesitant to spend the $$ if the issue won't be resolved with a pro calibration. If anyone whose had D-Nice work on their set can chime in I'd appreciate it.

Was this banding there since you bought the set or did you notice it after a certain amount of hours?

If you want to test 3D on your ZT60, try the New Star Trek "Into Darkness" 3D Blu-ray. Great picture & sound!

Not a calibration matter in all likelihood. I noticed it in the first 100 hours but subsided afterwards (now I'm over 619 hours, and there is no hint of it...pro calibration has to wait anyway due to financial reasons).

I agree, mostly. This was first 3d movie I watched all the way thru (watched about an hour of Avatar previously). Initial settings on z60 were really bad, had to turn a few things off (was getting some/lots of flicker and motion issues early on), left it on vivid mode, but looked kind of cartoonish throughout. Will give it another go after digging out those Home Theater 3d settings... (Also not sure if the extra pair of (rechargeable) glasses I got were working quite as well as the ones that came with the set.) Yet something else to play with again as time allows. But yeah, otherwise great picture and sound (and even more so in my next viewing smile.gif).

Vertical banding? Is it a single vertical band about an inch wide that you can only see on an all white screen or when running slides?

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

My ZT was calibrated by D-Nice before I picked it up from the dealer. After picking it up and using it regularly for about two weeks I noticed a very slight, light vertical band on the extreme right side of the screen that showed up on the brightest scenes. I don't remember seeing the band when I first got the set home and I have to believe that D-Nice would have told the dealer of the fault/issue if he had noticed the band during calibration which also leads me to believe it wasn't there before.

You're in a good position in the respect that you can hold off on the calibration to see if the band works itself out somehow whereas if it doesn't completely go away on my set and I have Panasonic send someone out , I may lose what I paid for the calibration if the set needs to be replaced or the TV needs to be reset eliminating the calibration settings.

Thankfully the vertical band on my set is so slight that I hardly ever notice it any more and since I've noticed it, it seems to have diminished some. I'm hoping it continues to go away until it's gone completely but only more time will tell. Others in this thread have had it also and theirs has gone away to my understanding so may mine (and yours) will too. Frankly though, a "Reference" component shouldn't be exhibiting these issues.

I'm watching the set right now and can't see the band while looking for it. I'll still notice on occasion on certain material but again, in my case it's very, very slight to begin with.

Anyway, sorry for the long post reply. Hope something I've said helps in some way. Good luck.
