Given that calibrators are professionals performing a service and providing their expertise--both tangible benefits with objectively quantifiable results--I'd give the benefit of the doubt and assume the criticism is leveled at the manufacturers. If so, it's a legitimate complaint.
I hear ya on that note, however I wonder if calibrated sets would lead to warranty claims. Such as, my TV looked better a while back, I feel my calibration is off and my set is new, ect ect.

PS. Hi my first post...

Welcome and thanks for your timely first post.

Good for me... I paid 2499 and haven't got mine yet...that extra $300 helps pay for the new Oppo.

Curious from BB what Build Date I will get... probably get friday-ish or so...

Got to say I am used to "The Ways of the Forum" ... but man this thread will put the fear into even a fairly harden forum user. Always been my experience that Issues are louder than Praise

I usually have good karma / experience on these things, but I already had to send my first back, major cracked glass not Panny's fault... shipper.....fingers crossed.

Long Live The Gorn!

I watched Elysium and the image quality was unreal. So much detail especially in the wide shots of Elysium.

But good everyday colors in pretty much all content, just using a calibration disc (Digital Video Essentials), and slightly backing off the green for black and white.

Still deciding on this set regarding the colors and whether I've reached a good set of them yet, but think there's still some trial and error left before calling in the calibrators. Black and white seems pretty much perfect, uniformity fine. Too busy watching/enjoying I guess to bother playing around with it more than every once in a while. Elysium looked pretty good last night. smile.gif

I had a 60" SXRD A3000. The SXRDs were notorious for over-saturated color primaries that really couldn't be corrected even in the service menu. The delta errors were rather high on all SXRDs. My A3000 began also getting bluish blacks very, very badly as the engine block deteriorated. The color is far more accurate on the ZT even out of the box in THX mode default. However, a pro-calibration or a damn good experienced DIY with proper equipment is the only way to really dial these sets in to reference levels. I have the 65" VT60 and this set looks amazing at times dialed in. smile.gif

Quick question for those of you who game on the ZT60 (PS3/4, Xbox 360/One): Any issues with stubborn IR? Thinking about hooking up a console, anyone have any long term issues with HUDs etc staying around too long?

Just trying to learn here....could someone explain that even though the ZT is about 5 fl dimmer than the VT, the on/off contrast ratio is a bit higher on the ZT? I would think a brighter display would have a better contrast ratio (MLL being about equal)? Is it the filter in the ZT?

I think it is going to depend on the games you play and how much you play in proportion to other content.

I haven't had any stubborn IR from gaming yet. But, FWIW, I've only been gaming a few hours at a stretch and watch lotsa content in between. Also, the HUDs in the games I've been playing are subdued (Diablo III) or the HUD opacity can be adjusted (Fallout games). My kids sometimes play Lego Pirates of the Carribean for a few hours at a time. This leaves IR, but it fades away eventually.

I've had more trouble with the FOX logo in football games. That one is stubborn to get rid of. Probably because it is so stinkin' bright. Finally I just zoomed it out, even though I know it goes away eventually.

Probably based on the filter and possibly even the single sheet of glass design.

When I still had the PS3, I played GTA V quite a bit for a few hours at a time and never noticed any IR. Just practice some common sense and you will be fine. Don't worry too much and enjoy the damn TV. There is a lot of fear mongering around here.

Yes, I forgot the bonding of the glass in the ZT. All those incremental things add up apparently. Thank you.

I don't doubt it, but when I can watch something day to day and hardly ever see a color that disagreed with reality, I don't particularly mind whether they're oversaturated or not (apparently wink.gif). Was using its Warm 2 setting (I think that's what it was called, I deleted everything from my computer that had XBR in it the week it went out the door), everything off, "calibrated" with DVE (like I mentioned). Zero inclination to get it pro-calibrated.

Will see with this set... Some of the contrast levels that seem to go hand in hand with pro-calibration don't seem to go hand in hand with my seeing more rainbow artifacts the higher the contrast is set.

Would I still see the lights on the ZT60 or would it eliminate it completely? Does the ZT60 completely eliminate reflections or does it just reduce them more compared to the VT60? I also have a window on the opposite wall from the TV which that I'll need to get some better light blocking blinds or drapes for. I don't know if I can spend another $650 to just to reduce reflections and returning with Amazon would probably be a big pain.

Reflections in my ZT60 are the same as they were in my VT50, so I think the AR improvement is mostly bunk except maybe under a few scenarios. My guess is top down light will get rejected better, but if you have table lamps anywhere near the TV the VT and ZT will be the same.

I even recall D-Nice hypothesizing that we were imagining it, lol, to which I vehemently disagree.

DSE is a fact of life then, eh? No different than inheriting the bald Gene - just the luck of the draw I guess

Just got my new ZT 60 mounted in my man cave. Approximately 2 hours later, it goes into shutdown mode. Seven lights of death. Contacted Panasonic, they won't be able to send a repair man until December 31st. Very upset that i won't be able to watch it during Xmas and i paid $2799 for this thing. I've researched and researched for a tv and picked this one. What a letdown.

LOL, most of the time when a plasma don't open you just change a 2200 micro-farad capacitor and the tv is fine hehehehe funny but true.
