Mine does the same thing. Why does it do that? Thanks for the tip, I think I'll change my settings.

The ZT60 has no speaker outputs.

I have an old 42" 720p Panasonic plasma from 2006, that has clear discoloration from 4:3 content from the plasmas infancy. You can clearly see that the picture is darker where the black bars would be on the left and right of the screen. You have to really look for it but it's def there.

It's def burn in from years ago when hd content was not so prevalent. That's why I'm being extra careful with this plasma. I don't want long darker color areas on the top and bottom of my ZT from letterbox format.

The ZT allows you to change the bars from black, to white, to shades of gray in-between black and white.

As to the Netflix discussion, I almost never achieve better than 720p, and most commonly receive 480 SD. I'm using my blu ray as the Netflix source and have an excellent wired and wireless connection (50+ mbps).

My settings are to use HD as default, but I still don't have good luck at all. Every once in a blue moon I'll achieve 1080p but it's almost always short lived. Drives me crazy.

My components:

Panasonic TC-P65ZT60 TV
Yamaha RX-V673 Receiver
Sony BDP-S590 Blu-ray
Definitive Tech Speakers 7.1

I take it then, that this is all due to our internet connection speed?

Does not mean breaking it is is going to help an issue like that. To each his own though... You would have to test like ten panels on every model to boot, for years, to figure out if break would really helps a situation like that or not.

Maybe I'm missing your point, but at the rate things are going you may well be out of luck to get one at all, trying to cherry pick for that.

Just because there is a knob doesn't mean you should turn it.

Is there a certain month build I should be hoping to get? Any way to tell before I take delivery? If it has not been modified is this something they will let me do myself if they send me the parts? I work on electromechanical things for a living. Are the cracks that have been found due to someone performing the mod wrong? Ex: geek squad. Lol
I'm leaning towards getting one ordered today. Rick

August is the bare minimum you want for more silent operation. Yes, based on the evidence we've seen so far, incorrect re-installation of the back panel is the catalyst for the microcracks. Said microfracture discussion was actually augmented by those who had the problem, and having a discussion about it is certainly germane to the topic of this thread.

Inseconds99, what you're describing sounds more like uneven wear from which no plasma is immune no matter how many hours of break-in you employ.

That is a factor for some but shouldn't be for me. I have the fastest plan my ISP offers and it consistently tests very well on speedtest.net, etc...

Trying to watch something on Netflix during prime time hours is an issue too because so many users are doing the same doing those times.

But at 2:00 in the afternoon, HD/Super HD should be no problem for me, yet it is.

Hmmm....what now?  Well, best that Netflix shows for me is 720P and that takes about a minute to get there, starting with SD.

Slightly OT question, does Netflix Super HD compare favorably with the quality of Vudu HDX?

If you get a July build or earlier, it won't have the fan fix. September and later, it will already have the fan fix installed. August - maybe, maybe not. The build date is on the back of the set in the center. You can get the foam from Panasonic for about $3 and install it yourself, just taking care to put the rear panel on properly. But some people have excessive buzzing that may be caused by a bad circuit board, or by loose screws. This may or may not need to be replaced by a Panasonic repair facility.

Wait longer...it took 3-4 minutes of "negotiating", with the ZT on WiFi, until I was able to take the pic of "SuperHD". If still no joy (again, 6th season of Lost was the only show I could get to play in SuperHD with my limited time) then you need to upgrade your network, or provider.

That's a line-level output, not a speaker output. He would need powered speakers or an amplifier. There is also some question about whether he would have lip-sync issues with the Toslink output and these converters. (Not all these converters are the same.)

I'm going through similar searches myself. Most of my audio equipment is going on 30 years old.

Right...but sometimes, "you gotta do what you gotta do"...my ZT will be eventually connected to my "all tube system"...no optical in on my preamp.

That's how I've always felt, but I haven't yet seen Netflix in Super HD (not all that super apparently).

It's really not. Even on Super HD, you can easily notice compression in dark scenes. Sometimes downright ugly.

Yes. Especially when Netflix accounts for about 33% of North America internet traffic!!!....

I watched an HDX recently (Fast & Furious 6) and noticed some artifacts in the content with low light, so I can only imagine how much worse it would've looked on Netflix.
