With panel separation doesn't one lose the air gapless tech and now have air bubbles and potential dust particles compromising the panel?

With panel separation you would lose the whole TV - If you read back and look @ some of the pictures you will see what most folks are talking about is a very slight "gap" (for lack of a better word) where the front glass panel rests on the bezel. With 30,000 panels one might suspect that a front glass might really separate from a few panels - lets say it is 10 (ten) that is .0003333% of all the ZT panels manufactured (VT's also have a single sheet of glass design). So far no one has reported that.

I kept sticking the tip of my fingernail into a tiny "gap" on the bottom left front panel of my 65ZT - then someone tapped me on my shoulder and said that if I kept doing that the front glass panel might fall off - I immediately stopped and all is well (for now)

Panasonic TC-P65ZT60 - Oppo BDP-103D - Panasonic DMP-BDT220 - Toshiba HD-DVD-3A - OPPO DV-981HD - Harmony 880
Onkyo TX-NR809 --- Definitive Technology - Studio Monitor 65 (2) - CS8040HD - Studio Monitor 45 (2) - Super Cube 6000

Of course, this is still a very small number however these are reports from people who belong to and post on this and the UK forum. Who knows how many more cases of microfracture exist but we haven't heard about them because they were not reported on these forums?

So . . . is everyone now convinced that their sets are inevitably going to fall apart?  I'm pretty sure that those who have had significant issues will be taken care of by Panasonic.  These forums can really make people paranoid.

The "gaps" that people are taking pictures of: My current (loud buzzing) ZT60 has it in the corners.  I can stick my finger nail in them.  I can also press down on them.  My ST60 does not have these gaps, obviously.

I was at Best Buy today, because they had one last ZT60 that I'm swapping my buzzer for that was sold to me as a discounted open-box item.  Same thing.  There was also a bigger 65 inch ZT60 still on the floor.  Same thing.  All different build dates.

If it doesn't affect picture quality or your viewing experience, then I would just leave it alone.

When you slightly lift the edge of the front layer at a corner, it bends. So it must be plastic, plexiglass or some variation. That is the layer that "appears to be" separating from a layer below. The layer is around 1/32" to 1/16" thick.

Nope. Most are fine. Same as yours probably. Love this TV!

Thanks for the multiple confirmations. Unless this front panel starts to actually peel off the set, I'm no longer going to sweat it.

Hey all have a question,

I've notice while using my netflix app on my panny zt the sound does not play through my audio receiver. The sound plays fine through my other inputs connections. Netflix sound works fine on my bluray player. Am I missing something perhaps a simple connection error?

My Dungeon: 9.1set up
Panasonic zt65 (dedicated theatre room)
Yamaha rx3010, Hsu Vtf-15 subwoofer
2 Veritas 6.2 floor speakers
1 veritas 5.2center channel
2 veritas 5.1 front presence
2 veritas vs surrounds (side surrounds dipole or bipolar)
2 veritas minis rear presence

You might have to run an audio optical cable from ZT to AVR - better solution is to use the Netflix app in your bluray player - watching Netflix now thru player with Dolby D+

Another possible solution might be ARC - but I don't know exactly how that works!

Got my ZT60 a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it arrived with a screen defect (dark horizontal line) and a broken optical port. The Panasonic technician confirmed the defect, but Panasonic is telling me they can't repair or replace the display since they are out of the plasma business. They are offering me a refund, but now I'm left trying to find a replacement. Any advice? I'm very upset with Panasonic right now and stressing that I won't be able to locate a replacement for a reasonable price. Looks like everything is being marked up on the web.

I read an article about the ZT and it's construction. Here's an image that shows the ZT's panel construction. The picture of the left represent a traditional plasma panel than includes an air gap. The picture on the right represents the ZT panel constructed without an air gap. Panasonic refers to this technology as AGL, which stands for Air Gap Less. AGL method refers to the direct bonding process to join the layers together. In an article I read, Panasonic had a hard time developing this process and keeping bubbles from developing between the layers. This may help some people understand how the panel is constructed.

Try Cleveland Plasma or B&H photo. I think they still have stock.

I was in the same boat with a ST but replaced with a ZT, try going into a best buy and have them look for you. While i was there i was told by an employee the location on a ZT even though it did not register on their system.

Another possible solution might be ARC - but I don't know exactly how that works!

Running an optical cable from display to your A/V receiver, make sure and switch the receiver input to whatever you designate for the incoming cable.

Alternatively, using an ARC-capable HDMI cable (only HDMI 2 input on the ZT is capable) as the primary connection between the two, your receiver "should" automatically recognize the incoming audio signal. But anecdotal reports say that handshake doesn't always work.

All this in the e-help manual with the ZT....

The ZT is the best TV I have ever owned and I used to own a Kuro, let's just hope it last as long as the Kuro over 7 years, then OLED will be affordable in 100"

What?!  I can understand Panasonic saying they cannot replace the display with a new one due to the fact that they're pretty much not doing another production run.  However, if your defects are able to be repaired through part replacement, then I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do this.  Don't companies keep parts on hand for situations like this?  I've known people to be able to obtain parts to their sets years after they were discontinued.

Depending on where you live, you might be able to locate one on Best Buy's open-box section of their website.  Not the main website listing (they're gone from there), but there are still some open-box ones left.  That's how I obtained the one I'm using to replace my buzzer.  I see a lot of floor model ST60s in my area still - all of which were set-up for those special Panasonic display booths running their custom Viera demos.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually spoke with the supply manager for Best Buy's Magnolia stores yesterday. According to his inventory they are sold out across the country. I tried contacting a few stores directly just in case but couldn't find any. I've just about exhausted my resources unfortunately. There are a few left on the internet, but they've been marked way up and I haven't been able to convince any of them to negotiate. I really hate to say this, but I may have to settle for something else. As everyone here knows, that's going to be pretty tough after owning a ZT. I wish Panasonic would be more helpful in the matter, but they made it quite clear that they will only provide a refund.

I was shocked too! I thought surely they would have parts on-hand, but they refuse to do anything but refund me. I've made my way up to a customer support supervisor, but he just kept repeating to me that the decision has been made and I would only be provided a refund. I'm very upset with Panasonic for not being able to repair the set. That's all I've asked of them. I didn't expect a new set or anything since I knew they weren't being produced. BTW, they have horrible customer support! Seriously some of the worst I've dealt with.

I've found a few open box units, but the service hours were high. There was one in town, but it has 2100 hours on it and every channel logo imaginable is burned into the screen! I just couldn't live with that. I imagine that will be an issue with any used set I come across.
