Besides the upfront cost, when the time has come for me to sell my old ones to upgrade to their latest greatest I am usually only out about $100 - so I am getting one of the best (being diplomatic) blu-ray players for about $100 - not including the time value of $ in my figure, but with interest rates so low it isn't much more. No one ever considers the re-sale value of an Oppo when buying a new player, you can go out and spend $100 on a disposable player which will do one thing well (maybe), or buy the best which does a lot of things really well, get great support, frequent updates and then sell it a year or two later, only be out $100 or so and move up to the next greatest player. Not rocket science in my opinion, but I do understand the issue of cash flow for some.

Yea the OPPO 103 was an option but I can't spend over 300$ for a blu rag player at this time. So it's really down to:
-Sony S790
-Sony S5100
-kept Sony S6200
-LG BP730
-Samsung F7500 (questioning it's disc drive reliability do to me returning it for a very loud disc drive noise). Maybe it was just a lemon but after 15 days it did it so seems more like bad reliability

Any recommendations would be great. I know URGA uses a S790 and his pics are amazing. Maybe it's me but the Sonys (the S6200 at least cause that's the only one i owned) seem dull with colors, the overall picture didn't seem to be as good as the Samsung F7500.

There are a variety of differences between Blu-ray players when it comes to features but ALL Blu-ray players should render identical picture quality when playing Blu-rays. Any perceived differences should be attributed to different settings, poor human sense memory or bias.

Which can be summed up as saying it's you. Just buy the one that seems to render the best picture based on your observations. You already dsagree with more than a few of us regarding which player renders the best picture via HDMI. So be safe and you be the judge, then sleep better knowing there really isn't a difference in the picture smile.gif

Pie and chips aren't you an F8500 owner? I mean this head isn't like the 8500 thread but what made you come over to this one?

If I had the money for a 500$ Oppo 103 or a 1200$ Oppo 103D I would have it already. I don't need all the extra quirks just a great disc player and some features. Samsung F7500 was a bit sluggish. The 6200 is fast and streams great but some of the settings seem weird on it. The bright mode is too bright the theater mode lacks detail, and I can't find settings for the User modes.

Also Best Buy doesn't carry Oppo 103. I don't think they carry anything unless it's newer. The Sony S790 seems to be better than the S6200 and it's less. Samsungs build quality was not that great. So I think until I get the money the S790 it is. Then at some point an Oppo if I get a whole AV set up. Tight with money cuz of school. S790 is still in top of everyone's "best" list

1.) The Oppo 103D is $599.
2.) You don't need the extra quirks but you do seem to suffer from anxiety when not all the bases are covered in terms of quality and performance. The Oppo will cover those bases.
3.) Magnolia carries Oppo's current model, which is the 103.

As far as cost is concerned, do you realize that in addition to the cost of gas you're also spending about 25-50 cents on wear and tear for every mile you drive? Not significant for most, but as much returning as you've been doing it should be a factor in your decision. Speaking of returning, how have you not been added to Best Buy's "naughty" list? I thought that two or three returns is all it takes to be blacklisted by BB.

I've never returned anything but the open box to BB and a Samsung blu ray player that started acting and running extremely loud.

Oh cuz everywhere I saw it was 1200... Could be old site. Anyway I think I'm going to grab the S790 as most said it was the last "best" flagship model Sony made. And most
Around AVS seem to use it this when they aren't using a high qui laity one.

So it's down to the S790 and LG BP730.

Oppo's prices:

103 - $499
103D - $599
105 - $1,199
105D - $1,299

I'm guessing you saw the 105. Anyway, enjoy whichever player you decide to go with.

It's best if you get someone else to pick which player to buy!! If the first letter of who ever replies next is from A to M buy the S790, if N to Z buy the BP730!!!

I am starting to have a severe aniexty attack waiting for the next response!!!!!:

Panasonic TC-P65ZT60 - Oppo BDP-103D - Panasonic DMP-BDT220 - Toshiba HD-DVD-3A - OPPO DV-981HD - Harmony 880
Onkyo TX-NR809 --- Definitive Technology - Studio Monitor 65 (2) - CS8040HD - Studio Monitor 45 (2) - Super Cube 6000

Ahhh yes I must have then. Does the Oppo 103 do 24p on streamed content? If not I mine as well go with the S790. I have a 190$ gift card for BB making the Oppo around 350$ With tax included.

All in all if there is no huge difference between the S790 and Oppo 103 as far as PQ then I'm gonna save the extra money and grab the S790. If Oppo some how Goes on sale then I will grab it. 499$ is about 300$
More than what I need. I feel like buying an Oppo without having a great surround system for it does not justify me spending all that money on audio capabilities and the 24p playback for streamed content. Like buying a low model BMW, what's the point your just teasing yourself.

So I guess to just summarize this post:
If I buy the S790 am I missing that much as far as PQ compared to the OPPO?

This reminds me.

I have a Pioneer 62FD for BD player. Why are these so damn expensive? I didn't pay even close to retail.

Lol...I would like some pro advice but your method is mad but a good one. And it's a Sony S790 not LG.

I am going to go with the Oppo 103 (not 103D) but the bad news is that I don't see it being offered by Best Buy. I have a 190$ gift card for BB and would want to get it from there if not it's the S790.

From what I've read the PQ difference is nada between the S790 and the Oppo

The Oppo and Sony should offer the same PQ when it comes to Blu-ray, but it's possible DVD PQ may vary. As far as the Oppo's availability, I thought Magnolia sold it but looking on their website that doesn't appear to be the case. Sorry about that.

Yea then maybe the S790 will be my choice then. What about a Denon or Marantz?

Kind of a HUGE bummer Best Buy no longer carries the Oppo 103/103D. That was going to be my next purchase. Other places have them but it's not worth it since I can't use my gift card.

I think the S790 will be my purchase. Seems to really impress experts with its performance. The Samsung was great but their build stinks

BBuy sells the Oppo...just go to the Magnolia store. My local BBuy usually has a few 103s in stock, but either of the "D" would have to be "ordered".

I thought Magnolia did too but they don't list the product or the brand name on their site. Such sites aren't always reliable.

This is tiresome! Is it even remotely possible for you to do ANYTHING without soliciting the opinion of a group?! Well if you can't, why don't you pose these ridiculous queries in the appropriate BLU RAY forum.

You're right Bob but this is unbelievable!! I can't ignore him enough so I don't visit this thread for weeks at a time. But when I do pop in to see if there's anything new on the ZT front, this colossally annoying poster is right there still at it! Enough already!!

FYI Why don't you post something about the ZT? Get the thread going again since the last few pages have been about nothing but UPS and minor things others have posted. Guess you missed those

You are able to block members whose posts you don't want to see. Hover your cursor over the offending party's name and click "Block Member". Their posts will be condensed in the thread, though you are still able to see any of their posts when quoted by others.

Wow thanks for your help, excellent contribution. Sorry for asking something that's going to be played on my ZT60. My apologies. I never said the Samsung was junk it started to have drive problems after just 15 days. And there are plenty who can state the same for some of their Sammy products as well.

You seem to contribute a lot here..oh wait no you don't. And I have researched all of them on my own but can't get a definitive answer so I asked those who actually own them aka this thread. Moving on.

Btw no one has posted jack in here except for a couple pages being about UPS or surge protector info. So you can also talk about that as well if you'd like. IMO all this relates to the ZT60 and the best blu ray player for it from some of the most knowledgable people I know. I haven't discredited or said I'm not listening because it's obvious the Oppo would be it if I could get it at BB. Other than that I seem to be the only one posting in here and my poss aren't complain about anything I'm trying to find the best. Obviously
You have nothing good
To say so why come in here?

You have been given enough direction by those here regarding a blu ray player replacement. What more do you want people to say?? And quite frankly, you are not new to the HT world which makes these continuous player questions all the more ridiculous. Someone who's been in the HT game as long as you have claimed to have been, shouldn't have to ask about HD PQ differences between 2 or more properly working players.
