not to derail anything...and I dont have an LHX.....

But,i do have a year newer model...the LE8500

and your LHX must be quite a large quality increase over my newer LE8500

off angle is terrible on the LE8500...lucky its in closed cabinet in my master bedroom and I only watch in bed

then there is blooming and the serious glare from the screen

Its does have good black levels...but the room needs to be pitch black...as even a light on the nightstand makes the screen glare pretty bad

It will need to be "off the wall" and on the stand or the technician might just not even look at it.

They did mention that, so I will have that ready to go...

I guess my next question for anyone that has had a similar issue is at what point can I request a new set? Can I get extra manufacturer warranty out of them if they just want to replace a part?

Changed your tone? You agreed with me this morning then deleted your post.

There's the whole plasma forum to discuss those arguing topics, please go ahead and carry on there...
It doesn't have to be in this thread. If you think that's censorship then that's fine.
Besides I hardly think it's severely limiting. Think about it.

In fact I wholeheartedly suggest that members wanting to continue the debate over both brands negative comparisons to start a new thread.

There's way to many interruptions to possible good conversation by the thoughts try this today, no try this, that ain't it try this!

People bring legitimate short questions that get lost or become a page or so old just because of the overwhelming quantity of worthless conversation.

Any of the F8500 threads seem to be full of these worthless conversations that likely 95% of the F8500 owners have no interest in. I used to come around frequently and found that even when I was shopping it was difficult to actually find information that seemed to be maybe more useful to the majority of the prospective buyers.

I had 2 C series plasma displays and I'll admit that this time I thought I'd shop the 2 major players, the locals with the "other brand" either didn't have the size of the display I was interested in or knew very little about the display.

I found a Samsung showroom with maybe 25 - 30 displays and after a couple visits and a few other attempts in the vicinity to find the "other brand" in a similar environment I just finally tossed in the towel. All sizes of the F5500 and the F8500 were displayed. I really think I might have been as happy with the F5500 and other than having an opportunity to sell my C8000 I might likely still have it on the wall.

not at all

My point is there is good discussion...and there is bashing/fanboy banter

I didnt perceive his post to be bashing...but clearly that is my opinion

the ONLY reason I deleted my post this AM is because you suggested that I should.......wink.gif

I believe I'd be happy with a power supply replacement and maybe twist the arm for some additional warranty. Have you registered your display yet with Samsung? That automatically gets you an extra 90 days of warranty so if they offer the 90 days that's not actually a concession on their part. I'd make it clear that you've NOT had the opportunity to use it and you're not actually sure that there couldn't be other issues. If they talked about replacing "multiple parts" I'd be maybe reluctant and really push for a "NEW" display from the vendor. You might need to be cautious if they said "We'll replace it" - the language of the warranty might/likely mention a refurbished replacement. If replacement is discussed I'd say it needs to be stipulated as "NEW"!

When it's powered back I'd check it for hours.

Who was the vendor that mentioned "no replacement" - was it because you had already initiated the call to Samsung or just didn't want to help? The call to Samsung even though it appeared the right thing to do wouldn't have been my first call.

to your point

being that the Tv has so many intricate parts and operations..added to that the variation in hook up scenarios

that 5% that might need help is all that might have that particular situation

Last I checked, these were discussion forum threads. Displays are compared to reference standards to see how they measure up. As such, it is inevitable that other models may be brought into the discussion.

To think that members should have to resort to discussing displays via email goes against the whole purpose of a discussion forum.

What I can agree with, is that it is done civily and without bashing. The policing that is best left up to the moderators, rather than the self-appointed vigilantes.

To move on, the Samsung F8500 is a great display, and I don't think it gets the recognition that it deserves. What do you guys find is the best judder setting for 1080i broadcast content?

I'm one of the ones who tried to keep it peaceful in this thread, read my posts.

I came here today to ask a question. Did you bother to answer it?

No, you instead told me that if I don't like it, don't visit. Well the same advice can be given to you.

I would never bother to do that...as it seems just like a meaningless step for an internet posting

I have my DirecTV box set to Native - when its outputting at 1080i I have film mode set to Auto 2, black optimizer at dark room, and everything else off - I find that setting to be the best.

I'm still on FW 1117 and I've known that 1119 has been available for quite some time but there's no issues and I've assumed the updates are likely app changes etc. so there's not been a really good reason to update.

Today (very early) I get a message that there's a "NEW" FW update available and I get options, I of course just went past the turning ON "AUTO" - went past the "UPDATE NOW" - and closed out of the message BUT it's the first time that mine has displayed the update message. It's Ethernet connected.

Should I just assume that since it's connected it calls the "mother-ship" occasionally "looking"? My TiVo's do that as well as some other connected devices but I thought with "AUTO UPDATE" off it would cruise along until I initiated the check.

Since I've not seen this message before - is there actually anything newer than 1119 available? I thought I'd wait until later in the day to see if anyone mentioned "newer" but I've seen no comments.

I had to do the 1117 update manually when I first connected the display in December.

Hi all,

Just got my new UN60F8000 and am loving it so far!  Weird thing is it was on firmware 1114  and I thought I updated to 1119 just now, but it actually shows 1116.  Even the Samsung download page shows 1119 but downloads 1116.  Is this common for everyone, or am I looking in the wrong place?

I have a question on the input lag. I keep reading that it is terrible on this set, yet when I use it as a monitor to play PC games I am not noticing any issues. Is the issue primarily with consoles? Or just in "Game Mode"? Honestly I haven't noticed a difference from my last TV.

Thank you very much for your expertise.

Not certain why your question got passed over, apart from most of the regulars not being regular 3D content watchers possibly, but I'll do my best. As long as the TV detects a "proper" 3D signal being sent to it it will automatically sync with the signal and go into 3D Mode.

For example I use a PS3 Slim as my BR player. When I launch a 3D movie from the PS3, as long as I select Play in 3D at the disc's main menu, the F8500 automatically detects it and pops up a little window letting me know that it is 3D display mode. I then simply turn on my glasses and it all works pretty seamlessly from there. One bit of caution, if you read your 3D glasses manual carefully it will tell you must (or highly recommends) pare each pair of glasses with the TV first and the paring process must occur with like only 18" separation between the two. The odd thing is that in all likelihood even if you don't do this the glasses will work fine, at least each of my 4 pairs worked just fine out of the box.

That's a music to my ears! I have been anxious about the input lag on my future H7000 the most and any input lag reduction in the current F8500 is welcome. Many people are saying there have been improvements through firmwares, but I do want to see the hard numbers. If it's not too troubling, can you do a camera test so we can all see the improvements?

Word on the street is that somewhere around FW update 1115 or 1116 they managed to drastically improve the display lag of the F8500. I can only state that in my personal testing (the test being playing Pinball FX2 via a PS4) both using the PC Input trick (similar to what you are doing it sounds like) or using the included Game Mode setting that both are perfectly great for gaming purposes.

Alas I have not seen any posted comparisons of the precise input lag improvement by those with the capable hardware/software.
