Yes there is a short visible lip (as you described) that does NOT extend to the extreme ends of the bezel on the sides. I was concerned about that before I bought because I could feel it when on a stand in the show room. My 64" display is 42" off the floor, wall mounted and it's not of any particular nuisance. You didn't forget a thing! You can do nothing about it either.

No snapshot needed - anyone that owns one can confirm the lip is there by just running their hand from side to side along the bezel bottom.

I purchased a Samsung 64F8500 PDP from Cleveland Plasma yesterday for a competitive price.

Chris was very helpful and informative during our phone conversation.

My PDP should ship on Mon./Tues. so hopefully I will receive it by the end of the week.

The 64F8500 will supplant my perfectly fine PRO-150FD, which will be moved to the MBR.

Who ever thought I'd have a 60" TV in the master bedroom! eek.gif

My thanks to Chris and this Forum's participants for their help and useful information provided during my decision making process.

I'm sure I will have many additional questions to post in the near future, stay tuned.

I guess my next question for anyone that has had a similar issue is at what point can I request a new set? Can I get extra manufacturer warranty out of them if they just want to replace a part?

So what was the outcome of your service visit? If you've been back you must have posted to a different thread. Power supply replacement, a replacement display ordered or just what?
Could be some valuable information for someone else that has a "service issue". What part of the country are you located in? The service technician had to come from how far away?

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. I thought I screwed something up. My theory is that it is a port that allows cool air to flow in from below and the hot air flows out the top...

Check out this issue i noticed while watching HBO on my Fios STB 1080i feed. Look @ upper right corner once Warren Buffett's dome goes away. There's a white speckled trail that follows from left-to-right. Is this dithering? or something else?

After having gone through 4 LED TV's looking for something acceptable (LG and Samsung) I'm finally satisifed with my PN60F8500...well, almost satisfied.

Watching some DirecTV last night (first night of owning this awesome set) and noticed a number of flashing red pixels. They blinked for a bit then stopped. This morning (day 2) my son was playing the XBOX and I noticed it again. It was never more than about 4 pixels blinking, but from what I remember, they weren't in the same place as the first night.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I'm just wondering if I should take this back and swap it for another set, or if this is expected during the initial operation of the set.

Try changing HDMI cables. Could be a bad cable. It also may be a bit of dithering. You may have more when the tv is brand new, but should settle down after you break it in. Keep an eye on it for a week. It could also be pixels that will become stuck on. If there are only a few, you won't even notice them after awhile. I have 3 stuck pixels. If you are not happy with it, exchange it.

Funny enough, the HDMI cable is brand new (need it for ARC).

I'll chill for a week and see what happens. I've got 30 days with the store so why rush it, right?

Could be some valuable information for someone else that has a "service issue". What part of the country are you located in? The service technician had to come from how far away?

The TV died on Tuesday evening and I received a call from the service tech on Wednesday morning (great turn around). They told me on the phone that the Samsung troubleshooting guide indicated that it was a power supply issue and that they would need to have that part shipped to them. They came out to my house on Friday morning and swapped out the power supply, and the TV did not turn on.

When that happened, they tested each board to determine which component was not working properly (not sure how they were able to figure that out) and suggested that it was the main board. Of course, they did not have that part and said they would get back in touch with me when that arrived. To me, and I could be wrong, it looked like they were working on a hunch, as they told me earlier that Samsung only suggested bringing out a power supply board based on how the TV was acting.

I called Samsung and spent way more time than any normal person should to get to their "executive level" of support. They basically told me to go pound sand when I asked them to swap the set for a new one. They said the service tech would determine when the set was actually a failure before they would issue a new set. I then asked them if five hours of operation was their new benchmark for success, and they did not have an answer for me.

I know some of you are probably wondering why I did not send it back to my seller. My seller was an authorized online retailer and I thought it would be a pain in the * to ship it back to them and receive a new one. At the end of the day, this is Samsung's issue as the TV was not damaged through shipping.

Hopefully, the main board is the problem and I can enjoy my set going forward. I will keep everyone posted when they come out to change that part.

mcolts,

Its all about playing the odds.

You probably won't buy another display online for a while, but when you're over it, there is still something like having a 98% chance that the display or other electronics will be trouble free.

Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Tivo Roamio for OTA, Dish VIP722, Marantz AV8801 preamp, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP, Calman 5, Chromapure, Accupel DVG-5000, i1Display3pro, i1pro2, eecolor colorbox.

It is the risk you take and I got unlucky. Hopefully their assumption about the main board is correct and I can actually use this awesome TV!

Your experience is making me nervous. I purchased an F8500 last Saturday, but have not received it yet. Is such a catastrophic failure common for the 64F8500?

Good luck with a satisfactory repair.

I have followed this thread (and the other one) for about a year. If this was a common issue, I would not have purchased through an online dealer. The Samsung "customer service agent" said that she has never heard of this happening before as well. rolleyes.gif

Like JimP said, 98% of the time it is smooth sailing, but I just got unlucky. That can happen with anything though...

Third time is the charm! The replacement for my replacement arrived today and it looks to be perfect. No pixel issues, no buzzing, no parts missing from the box. The only issue I have is that its not four inches bigger! Now to wait another week to watch it...

Displays are like 100% cotton t-shirts. Always buy a size larger than you think you'll need, as they tend to shrink over time.

Thanks. Does the PDP come out-of-the-box on it's stand (installed)?
