^ I think Cinema Smooth is buggy in 1104.
When it's just been turned 'off', it seems to engage properly for the time you spend watching 24p, although I see a frame skip every few seconds.
As soon as you stop watching then play 24p again, it has disengaged properly.

Hard to describe but I think you see the same thing.

My new PN64F8500 showed up today. So far, pretty happy with it. Just downloading my update to 1104. We'll see what it does but I probably haven't been using it long enough to notice any differences.

Hi guys,

Going on just over a month with my 64" - still in amazement every time I'm watching it.

One question, if I get really close to the screen I see a slight green "static" uniformly over the entire screen. Is this normal or should I be worried? I believe its doing it with multiple sources but I'll confirm that tonight.

Thanks,

Pete

Pete, you might be seeing the result of dithering, which is a technique used with all plasmas. Once you back up to normal viewing distances, it disappears.

Yes at normal viewing distances I do not notice this "greenish static", only when I happen to walk close up to the display. A few feet back, or especially 11 feet back on my sofa the picture quality is an 11 out of 10...

Thanks for all the tips RE: break-in settings. I guess I have to watch it more! I just don't watch a lot of TV.

And as far as Geek squad goes, yeah, I think they do warranty it that way. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Now if I could only find some decent gaming settings....

After watching the entire 2013 HDTV shootout, I pulled the trigger and bought the Samsung smile.gif. I am moving up from an HLR5087W DLP Samsung Captain Kirk pedestal model which has served me well over the years. However now that I can purchase Kuro level quality after calibration for a reasonable price, it was the right time. First thing is I need to download D-Nice's break in slides. I've read about them but can't seem to find the post with the download instructions. I'm in South Florida, in Miami, so any ISF calibrators in the area that people recommend? I know I have a lot to read since I'm new to Plasma, so forgive me if I ask what has already been asked before about IR. So all in all excited about the purchase, and I can't wait to watch my first movie on the new set.

Check with turbe for calibrators that operate in your area or do tours to your area. You can check for references using the link in my signature area at the bottom of my post. You can also post in the "location" thread in the same area.

Good luck.

Hey everyone. Just received my 64f8500 this morning. I have a question. I just bought these HDMI cables from Monoprice "15ft Ultra Slim Series High Performance HDMI® Cable w/ RedMere® Technology" and they won't send a signal. The Tv says that there is no signal and to make sure they are plugged inc blah blah. I tried all inputs and also from My time warner box and PS3. So, I tried my 6 year old plain HDMI cable and everything works perfect. Do these cables I just purchased not work with the TV? Thanks for the help

Anyone experiencing the buzzing noise? This issue is really bugging me... especially when watching a movie, during silent paths, I can really hear the high pitch buzzing noise, this is really annoying.. can anybody advise please?

rflores5432: I bought the Monoprice Redmere 15' HDMI cables and they work great. The HDMI cables are directional, i.e., one end is the source and the other is the HDTV. They cables are labeled & won't work if they are connected the other way. Good luck.

echoesian: I have the 64" F8500 and it has a buzz when my ear is next to the TV. One foot away, the there is no audible sound -- of course, my ears are 62.5 years old.

OMG!! I'm such a fool!!! I totally forgot about them being directional. I guess I had a 50/50 chance of hooking up correctly. I have two of these cables and hooked each of them to cable box and PS3 and of course both were connected the wrong way. Thank you so much! Works great now. Loving this TV already!! P.S. I hear no buzzing at all so far.

Congratulations smile.gif

You can get the slides from here:
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1466472/2013-panasonic-settings-issues-thread

I'm myself new to plasma and was afraid of IR. But not anymore. It is no issue believe me.
Just go easy in the first 100 - 200 hours. No black bars, no logos, and lower your brightness and contrast. Then after that watch as you want which I do right now with the black bars but still I tend to mix what I am watching. You can mix watching with running slides in the first 100 hours. Thats what I did.

I did all this just to be cautious and because this TV is SO GREAT not to baby sit it at the initial stage. Now the baby has grown up and it can take care of itself. biggrin.gif
Others might tell you to watch everything from beginning but mixing them up. It will all depend on how you would like to start. There is no right or wrong.

I had very very slight buzzing that could be heard if I stick my head behind the TV. After finishing 150 hours I cannot hear a thing. Even when I put my ear on the TV's back, still nothing.

I really love when there is a complete white background or blue background on this TV. It looks awesome.

For example while watching the TV show "HUNG" bluray. The loading screen (Blue) looks terrific. VERY VERY uniform and the White writing on it is incredible. That itself dropped my jaw several times.
Such a gorgeous screen color and uniformity.

I think you got a good set. I can hear the noise even from 10 feet away... it's a high pitch buzz sound... shall I exchange a new one instead or ask them to repair for me?

I have the 64'' version of this TV and I cant hear a buzz coming from mine unless I turn my head left or right from my seating area (11 feet from TV). I have had the set for almost 3 months now and the buzz has almost disappeared even though I could barley hear it when I got it.

I know right. Its that damn money thing that is getting in the way. I just want a small one to tinker with honestly. This is going to sound so dumb but more then half the reason I want it is so I can try different calibrating things on it. Just going to wait and see what sales happen at some point later in the year and maybe grab one then.

Do these Display use the Samsung figure 8 power cord like on the LED's or is it a 3 prong plug? The reason I ask is I will most likely require a longer Power cord.
