I can't understand your concern for price. If it was the movers who actually misplaced or lost them I'd think the cost and the shipping maybe even expedited would be covered.

here's a link to I believe the screws separately:

Is there enough information supplied to buy local? I'd think so.

There's many on eBay:

I have the 60in arriving on Friday. I had issues with my 2 year old VT50 and ended up getting store credit towards this guy.

Should I be siked or nervous?

Mine is a buzzer, its strange though, its not constant. It only buzzes from time to time. I plan to bug Samsung closer to the end of my warranty period, but honestly I rarely notice it other than during very quiet parts of movies. I recall seeing there was a class action lawsuit against Samsung for buzzing on the A or B series TVs, To bad they didn't get the hint.

Please define "a lot". Again you can't take what you learn here and apply it to the overall model. We just don't have a big enough sample size reporting to make any kind of definitive statement. In the forum we have had a higher report of buzz from 60" tvs, but that doesn't mean much in the bigger picture.

Ice I'd be siked to be getting one of the last great plasmas that will be made. If you go in worrying you may over analyze and find fault where there is none.

I got the 60" 8500 delivered a couple weeks ago, and it buzzes. Heavy. Noticeable even above normal volume, except during big action sequences. Strangely, it is only audible when sitting directly in front of the unit. Move a couple feet off to either side and the sound is gone.

We started a ticket with Samsung On Friday, got a call from them Saturday. After assuring them that I had read and used their online troubleshooting guide, they arranged to have a tech come out to hopefully fix it. Today, the tech company called. I talked with the gentleman for about 5 minutes, but as able to gather that the buzzing sound is common, but "usually" fixable. He was ordering a specific part for the tech to replace.

They should be be out later this week to take a look. I am pretty happy with the response so far from Samsung.

By the way, I had the 60" ST50 before this unit (The kids threw something at it. Smashed the panel). I like the picture of the 8500 so much more (of course it was more expensive, to be fair). Seems to be much more colorful yet the blacks are fantastic. The added brightness works a lot better in our area as well.

Hope that helps in some way.

Well my VT50 buzzed pretty badly in white or mostly white scenes so it won't be a surprise. The F8500 doesn't buzz constantly though, right?

Is Samsung going to back out of the plasma game too? frown.gif

OLED's a long ways away from being affordable. Someone needs to keep the torch lit until then. I know LG will stick around but I'm not sure they will do us proud.

My ST50 also only buzzed during white scenes. Unfortunately, the 8500 I have buzzes constantly. It seems to lessen a bit during bright scenes, ironically. But the buzz is always there.

I would say yes, 2014/2015 will see the end of production for Samsung. The H500) was effectively (from reports) their last new plasma. The F8500 carried over into this year and there will be no replacement for it. This has been posted more than once in this thread and I thought was fairly common knowledge. Replacement parts of course will be available for the next few years at minimum. If you want a high end plasma then Samsung is your only choice right now unless you want to go aftermarket and try to snag one of the Panasonics that have been discontinued.

Could that just be because the 60" is purchased WAY more than the 51" or 64"? Instead of total numbers, I would be interested in percentages of complaints for each size.

Could go either way....Unfortunately, we usually don't get breakdowns as far as sales go for models unless there is an insider giving data or someone is able to find it online. Most people here seem to have gone with the 64" or the 51", again though if we have a few people with 60" TVs that have issues they will stand out since they are posting about it. The thing about forums like these is that most people come here because they are having issues, not to post how they are issue free. Nature of the beast and people sometimes mistake the small numbers of complaints here as what may be happening with other sizes, models, etc...

would be interesting to post a poll though
51" buzzer
51" non-buzzer
60" buzzer
60" non-buzzer
64" buzzer
64" non-buzzer

then we could at least see the representation on avs, and decide if there's 5x as many complaints because there's 5x as many owners on here. I'd actually think that would be more beneficial than sales reports of the entire population

To show you what I mean.....Lets say the total sales of the F8500 are 300,000. The total ownership of F8500's is 1,000 (which is pushing it A LOT). That would mean that AVS represents about 0.33% of the total sales. This number while a start for those here are but a very, very small drop in the bucket. We would then have to determine further if the buzz is normal for a plasma OR if the unit was actually defective. On top of everything else you would need to validate (not really easy) that the owners voting\reporting are actual owners......

what are we trying to determine? if f8500's buzz, or if 60's are more prone to buzzing than the other sizes?

I don't think knowing how larger you sample size is tells us anything about these questions. it would just give us more or less faith is what we found. .1% sample size wouldn't be as convincing as a 1% sample size.

but I don't need to poll 300k owners to see a trend. if we polled 1000 owners, and discovered that 600 of them own the 60" and 12 of them complain of buzzing and 200 owned the 64" and 4 of them complained of buzzing, then we'd know the only reason 60's are reported more often on these forums is because they are more popular.

That's kinda what I'm wondering. Is there more 60" sets in the wild causing a larger total number of people to complain about buzzing? But, when looking at percentage of units buzzing vs not buzzing, are the 60" right around the percentages of the other 2 sizes?

This is all making me relive my college stats class and think about sample sizes, validity, confidence indexes, etc. Yikes.

The age of the person who can hear/not hear the buzz is important. After the 50's it is unusual to be able to hear sounds above 8000 Hz. There was an interesting Brain Games program that demonstrated that fact.

I have a 60 Jan 2014 build. It buzzed the first 100 hours. After about two weeks and after the panel was broken in it has NO buzz at all. Cell light 18, brightness 46, contrast 95.

I saw that too. The same can be said with a person's eyes. After 50, colors become less vivid. Perhaps that's why some may find the color on their tv is not all that impressive.

Two years ago I had cataract surgery that gave me 20/19 uncorrected vision and removed all my astigmatisms. It was awsome to see vivid colors again because the clouding is gradual and you don't notice the loss.
