The 'distortion' is in the exact same location on two recordings of the same episode, but symptom appears different on the two recordings, presumably due to changes made to F8500 and HTPC settings during the time between the two recordings.

If you only notice this anomaly in this recording and no other sources then most likely it is from the source (recording) although it appears differently it most likely is the same anomaly changing due to your settings being adjusted. I would test other material to see if you get the same thing to appear if not then you know there is nothing you can do. When recording from cable/satellite you may often get signal anomalies that may look like TV defects.

Have only seen this symptom on two recordings made 4 days apart of the same episode.

Donovan was pretty much stationary before the distortion.

One time source anomaly sounds plausible. Thanks for taking a look.

good point. my pvr 'hiccups' all the time and then it becomes part of the recording. going to be tough to decide whether this is source related or display related until you can repeat it with either a different display or a different source.
Ph8te and bmcn like this.

Displays: Samsung PN64F8500/JVC X35
AVR: Pioneer VSX-1018AH, 5.1 audio
Sources: HTPC(Mediabrowser), PS3, XBOX360, Wii, Sony DVP-CX995V
Control: Harmony One

Your dvr hiccups all the time? Wow, that would be annoying as hell. What kind do you have?

The only time my dvr ever hiccuped was when my old TiVo series 2's HD started failing at the end of its lifepan. My current premiere has never hiccuped, not a single time.

Similar lines appear at the same moment of the episode on a 60" Sony lcd. Thanks fierce and ph8te.

Anybody else lost their Dolby Digital output from Netflix from the Smarthub? I have the TV hooked up to my receiver via Optical cable. It's been working perfectly for months. Now suddenly the app is only sending stereo. I checked a number of movies/programs that originally played DD and they are now playing Stereo. I then checked the Audio options, underneath the play bar, while playing one of these programs and the only audio is English (Stereo).

It doesn't seem to be the TV either, as I've just tried the Amazon On Demand app in SmartHub, and i get perfect Dolby Digital from it. So it appears localized to Netflix. Did Netflix update their Software? What could cause this? Help!

(Note I have done ZERO firmware updates to the TV in this time frame)

Not all Netflix movies provide Dolby Digital 5.1. If your only option in the drop down audio window in the app says Stereo, then DD 5.1 is not provided for that program. I have watched a number of movies for the past month on Flix with my 8500, and there's a percentage of them that don't provide DD 5.1 audio streams.

In watching Blu-Ray movies on this set at a friend's house and at Best Buy the detail looked great, but the movie appeared to have a sort of video rather the film look.....almost like the video was captured by a camcorder. Is t his what is called the screen door effect, or is it just that the 8500 makes it look "too real," or is it just a problem with the settings? Anyone else notice this? Thank you.

By the way how do you like your F8500 overall? I have a 51PNF8500 coming this Tuesday (thought it would be this past Tuesday).

I don't know if you still follow Vizio but the P series is out, seems to be a competitive 4K LCD at a much lower price but as expected not a plasma killer.

I read through the 1500+ posts the other day. The 2014 Shootout left me thinking that I definitely made the right call. Nothing I've seen about the P has me doubting that for a minute.

I have noticed this as well, on regularly viewed programs that previously played DD 5.1, that still indicate 5.1 next to the title. I just read on another thread that Netflix is aware of this problem with certain Samsung tv models and is working on it.

Was the TV being fed 24Hz content? If so it might not have been off despite showing off.

Thanks. Yeah after posting last night I used the online support at Netflix to see what the issue might be. They admitted they were aware of the issue and we're working on it. I'm glad it's not a fault my end !!!

I think Netflix has been dealing/facing bandwidth throttling issues with various servers under busier viewing times(nights, weekends). They may not be telling anyone this, but they may be intentionally limiting customers from selecting DD 5.1 in areas that are under heavier Net loads due to DD 5.1 requiring more bandwidth to transmit across the Net as opposed to a 2-ch stereo program. It's similar to what they do to the video. Sometimes you don't get 1080 HD from a selected program. It may start off at a low resolution, then throttle up in resolution when there's more available bandwidth on that particular server to support a higher resolution movie.

I've noticed many times that if my movie starts off and stays at a lower than optimal resolution (i.e. 480i), that simply changing my audio from DD 5.1 to Stereo, my movie resolution instantly throttles up to 1080 HD.

Got my brand new 60F8500 today!

The screensaver is popping up at random times, several times for hour. Google found the following info abut clearing notifications but I have no notifications to clear. Any ideas?

F8500 Recommended Settings Thread.....

EDIT: Just tried a factory reset... we'll see if that works.

You mean going with an 8500F over a Vizio "P" 4K ?

Can you summarize what the CONSENSUS opinion was of the 1,500 posts you read thru ? What did the Vizio backers like about the set -- cost ?

No improvements/changes to the video. A couple 8500 owners already proved that the 1203 firmware did not affect existing calibrations with older firmware. More than likely, the update had something to do with the Smarthub/apps.

I mean buying a F8500 over any of the various LCD options or waiting for Vizio to deliver (or not) on their CES hype.

I'm not sure what the consensus of others is, but I'd say it's another poorly polished product from Vizio. A lot of potential but it seems they either don't quite have the expertise to deliver a product with the polish & refinement of the major players or they figure their customers won't care, given the price, or don't know better.

I can tell you it's probably the latter.

Let's be honest: AVS Forum is basically The Top 1% of HDTV purchasers, and maybe even that is being too generous.

We go the "E" series Vizio for our Clubhouse. The guys just wanted something bigger than the 42" we had. We are viewing from 10-16 feet away. Nobody is measuring black levels....folks just want to make sure from where THEY sit they don't see jagged images or flutter or that other stuff. If it's there but they have to walk up to the screen to see it, they don't care.

Our budget was for under $2,000 and if $3,000 would have gotten something to fix those flaws, I wouldn't have been able to convince 1 person to spend the extra $$$ on it.

If you send the TV 24Hz and turn Cinema Smooth off (from being on), MJC will turn on even though it shows off. You simply turn MJC on and off, and then it stays off (until you toggle Cinema Smooth on and off again).

agreed
I think the market for a $3K 65" size range TV is extremely small in the grand scheme

one of the reasons I think that this new 4K OLED from LG at twice that price is really not going to far

Panel replacement doent look as good?

The replaced the panel on my 64F8500 last week...under warranty

It might be all in my mind
However I would say the picture is not as good.....something missing in the shadow detail that I had before

all my settings are the same as they were kept because the main board was not replaced

could there be a break in period where the picture gets better?

I bought the Tv as an open box item when Conn's was selling them for about 50% off last year

You guys are working hard this morning.....

The warranty fud was debunked on the ECTV thread and the no return policy is merely one aspect of an informed buying decision process.

I couldn't be happier with the nib 64 F8500, version US01, manufactured July 2014, purchased from an 'illegitimate' dealer at considerable savings.
